I love this video, love it. It’s like a group of friends out camping, standing around a fire, jamming just for the love of music, except that the instruments they are jamming with are their voices
yeah, Tim holds that note for 13 seconds. So epic. Avi left PTX because the pace was too fast and he was missing his family too much. There were no hard feelings. This song really showcases both Avi and Tim's vocal ranges beautifully. Great reaction.
There were no hard feelings at first...until the lawyers got involved...then there were PLENTY of hard feelings. Avi is still friends with Kevin, but no longer has any relationship at all with the rest of the group.
As you say having two basses is delicious. They both have a large range, too, getting quite high notes that are not forced but very sweet toned. Love it. Auston and Rob, great voices too, and one of the best beat boxers, the group has it all.
This was recorded in 2014, not long after Home Free won the Sing Off. It was just a guest appearance for Avi. Since Avi is partial to country/folksy music he agreed to record with them.
I love to watch people react to these for the first time. It brings back all the feelings of my first time hearing the songs and watching the videos. You need to react to Pentatonix with Avi singing his song, Standing By. Beautiful.
HF & PTX met way back on Season 4 of the Sing-off, when HF was competing and PTX came back to visit as reigning champs. Their paths have crossed many times over the years. Avi left PTX in 2017, for personal reasons as described in a video titled ‘Message from Avi’ on their UA-cam. The video posted in May, I think, and he left in September after their summer tour.
Kristin Howk As time has gone, I am no longer believing his reason for leaving Pentatonix. I think it something else. The reasons that he listed for leaving Pentatonix are things he still does. He still tours all the time, he still does music all the time, he still away from home all the time. So, I am no longer believing his reasoning for leaving Pentatonix. It doesn’t change the fact that he is still an incredible musician.
@@thunderingherddrumline2139 buried in all those comments i've read all these time, there was one that mentioned of a post by Avi's mother that talked about that time when she was still batlling cancer and PTX was having their tours. Avi and Ester, his sister who is also PTX's tour mgr would fly home from where the concert was and fly back again to the next concert venue because they would always want to see their mother not knowing if it would be the last. That was too taxing for him. Ester stayed on a year more when Matt was already tje bass man but left too afterward. I guess it was indeed a challenging time both for Avi and Ester but more so for Avi as he was the youngest who took the responsibility of taking care their mom. I guess she eventually recovered and by then Avi had more time and less stress and now can concentrate on his music. There would really be 'what if' questions there, but I believe Avi, when he was ready to get his music back again, had to make it something of his own and different from PTX. Yes, now he's touring again (but not as hectic as the PTX tours) but he can focus now more on his music
If you love 2 bass the you will love Home Free now that Chance has joined them like in the Man of Constant Sorrow video as he is also a bass and takes over when Tim sings lead. A good video to see him in action is the Mayday cover they did.
To get the full impact of "Mayday", you should be very familiar with all their voices and range. Kyle's started with two excellent picks...maybe one or two others before "Mayday."
This song got a standing O from the judges on the sing-off and was dubbed: Country - A capella - reggae. One Home Free song you should definitely check out: The 'Butts Remix' this is a fun medley that spans multiple genres and has such a full sound it's easy to forget that there are no instruments.
Loved your reaction, mainly with Adam’s beatboxing, and Tim and Avi’s bass singing! The first time they sang this on their season of the Sing Off, and Tim dropped that low F# at the end, the judges all stood up and the crowd went wild! I was on my couch and was like “what was that”, and rewound my DVR so I could hear it again, and again!! We Home Fries are always amazed at what Home Free does, and they do so much. They can all do different sound effects very well!! This is such an iconic song, and they were a little nervous before performing it on TV, but as you can see by the number of views, that it’s quite the hit!!
“My God Fam!” YEEEES!!!! 2014 release. I found this vid in Oct that year. Got twisted bc Avi Wasn’t a solo artist & just wasn’t into pop songs that PTX was into then. I should have stuck around bc their Christmas songs were great. Then came “Classics” EP & I fell into the fandom HARD. Then Avi ventured out on his own. One of your best reactions. You had me laughing several times. Nice job! 👍
A great Tim video is a collab he does with a guy called Peter Hollens and they cover Misty Mountains from Lord of the Rings. Tim’s last note in Misty Mountains actually vibrates the camera slightly if you look closely 😱😱. Well worth watching it, it’s another favourite of mine (along with live versions of HF doing Ring of Fire, like I mention in my other comment!)
The shook-ness on your face at the end!! Same 😂 I love it lol. It’s UNBELIEVABLE what some people’s voices are capable of. I genuinely cant imagine being that talented
No, this was years before he left, like a good 3!! So he's still firmly a member of PTX right here!!! If you wanna hear Tim get as high as he probably can, watch Home Free's cover of Mayday!!
I watch people react to Tim Foust... The look is priceless when he hits the ocean floor notes. But you aren't a Home Fry until you attend at least one of their concerts

The immediate rewind got me! And if you have any doubts, you should check them out doing this same song on The Sing Off. He holds the note just as well live. (The Sing Off performance was before this recorded one with Avi, who by the way was still with PTX when this was recorded.)
That high tenor is Austin Brown he has a very powerful voice. They added a caribbean type beat to this song which was fun and less slow and "country" to me. I loved it.
The live performance of this from “The Sing Off” is also incredible, you should totally check out all their Sing Off performances. All live, really funny/beautiful, and totally worth it!
OK - I'm in. New sub. HF actually now has two "basses". Some time after Ring of fire, their original bari, Chris Rupp, left and they picked up Adam Chance whose range is also sick. Try "Mayday" now. Tim sings lead / bari and Chance takes the bass. After seeing the power of bass, how could they not get another?
Its so funny, i saw a behind the scenes for that one and he is actually in it 3 times. The face bomb, then on the mechanical bull in the back and he also set the glass of champagne on a table.
Please react to Avi feat. Peter Hollens "Black is the color of my true loves hair." You will love it, trust me. And don´t forget your headphones. Keep up the great work.
I absolutely hit the floor with uncontrollable laughter at your reaction to Tim's low note.... And I can, because I had the EXACT SAME reaction! Love these vids bro, keep 'em comin'.
People need to stop spreading that story. It was NOT a nod to Tim's bass note. Avi switching to the cowboy hat was Chris Rupp's idea to show that this was the kind of music that Avi had grown up listening to instead of the pop that Pentatonix performed. It was actually Chris' hat that Avi put on. Avi kept the hat, then later auctioned it off for charity.
Tim Foust (homefree bass) can actually hit lower notes than Avi and is more comfortable doing so. Not to take anything away from Avi, I love the dude, it's just a proven fact.
That was a G1 that Tim hit and held, but during season 4 of The Sing Off, he hit an F#1 and held it. He’s been known to blow speakers and has gone as low as an A0, but he can go into tenor range, too.
Yesssss, love your reactions here! That's why we wanted you to do this one, haha. SO amazing. You should also check out the version that they did as part of the singing competition if only for the audience reactions, haha.
Really enjoyed your reaction! And I can’t tell you how many reactors that are new to Home Free, assume that Avi is the one hitting that low note at the end. It’s fairly frustrating when that happens. Glad you noticed it was Tim in the end. Hope you’ll react to more Home Free!
That's not true. Avi was a classically trained basso profundo who had offers to join several opera companies before joining Pentatonix. Tim helped Avi further develop his growl tones, but Avi could already hit low notes without them. Avi also helped Tim with his operatic bass. Tim and Avi had been friends for some time before this, but there was no "master and apprentice" relationship at all.
There is a video called "A message from Avi", where he explains, why he left Pentatonix! You really should wear a shirt saying: "My concerns are gone!"!
You do knpw its easy to get addicted to PTX and Homefree...Theres no cure .😂 Im addicted to both of them and on saturday im off to see Homefree live .😁
Hey Kyle another Home Free video to check out is How Great Thou Art. I just started watching your reaction videos and I am really enjoying them. Keep it up my friend
And that....is why we say you need to do more Home Free. Tim and Avi know each other and actually Tim taught Avi a way to reach lower into the bass range. Yes, Tim Foust is the bass, Austin is high tenor, and Adam Rupp is the beatboxer.. you really need to more of their songs. Tim also did a team up with Peter Hollens on the dwarven song from the Hobit "Misty Mountains" and the final note on that song will vibrate your socks off.
I can only recommend seeing them live! I just got back home after a mini-tour of Scandinavia (Copenhagen, Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Oslo) seeing them each place. (I know, I'm crazy). Experiencing Tim's low notes, when they literally reverberate around your body is something else! And Adam beatboxing knocks everyone's socks off. Austin and Rob kill the tenor-parts, and Chance does the baritone (and sometimes bass) so well! Chris (the guy in the hat) isn't part of the group anymore, but does his own thing.
Home Free and Pentatonix are both the best in the business in terms of acapella - in my opinion. This song is so awesome for having a taste of both in the same song!
I recommend watching the live version of this they did on the sing-off. I personally love that one. AND ALSO!!! I recommend watching Voiceplay’s cover of “Ophir Boogies song” from the nightmare before Christmas. It is absolutely phenomenal
HF do a version of this (without Avi) on The Sing Off and I bloody love the reaction from the audience and the judges. They also do it live and now that Chris Rupp (wore the cowboy hat) has stepped down and Adam Chance (call him Chance to differentiate between him and beatboxer Adam Rupp (Chris’ brother)) has taken over the baritone role, Chance does the Avi sections of this song because he’s a bass-baritone with a crazy 4 octave range - bass Tim Foust has 5 1/2 octaves. And yes, that high tenor was Austin Brown, you got that right! The other tenor with the glasses and beautiful soulful voice is Rob Lundquist. ua-cam.com/video/TJxv2i8U-Vk/v-deo.html here is a version of the song I’ve got saved on the watch later tab on my phone so that I can easily go back to it 😉🎧🎧🎶🎵. It’s fan-filmed at a concert from late last year. It starts a few seconds after the start of the song, but you see their personalities and they work the crowd well! And in this video Austin’s wrist is in a cast, he had fractured his wrist and it was still healing. It’s better now though!
Tim has a 5 octave range from soprano to bass. Chance joined 3 years ago and has a 4 octave range from tenor to bass, although cannot go as low as Tim. Now is the perfect time to check out their cover of Mayday by Cam. Tim sings high tenor, and Chance goes bass. They reverse their normal positions. It is an awesome cover.
Please more Home Free Adam Rupp is the best beatboxer ever Hillbilly Bone, Some Girls Do, Seven Bridges Road for laughs the Butts Remix, All About That Bass so many great ones but this is a good start
Impressive low note after that high note. Tim has amazing range. Avi was great for this, now we have Adam 'Chance', baritone/bass, to complement Tim and sing an amazing lead when called for. Check out I Can't Outrun You.
Tim's final note in this performance is a G1 (49 Hz). When they did this song in the 2013 Singoff competition, Tim's final note was an F#1 (46 Hz). But he "only" held it for about 7 seconds. The difference is noticeable for me, because my hearing only goes down to about 40 Hz. His 46 note, in my headphones, was partly audible and partly just vague ear pressure.
That last note, when you hear it live, actually drops almost sub-vocal... It shook the whole room when I saw them last (2018) Christmas. They didn't have Avi to back Tim up, but Chance was there to help out. One day, I hope Tim, Avi, Chance, and any other bass will get with Peter Hollens and do the Misty Mountain song from the Hobbit as a full Dwarven choir... The earth will tremble if they do.
If you want more of the beatboxer Adam Rupp, listen to Home Free's "Do you hear what I hear". In it he's in the front and for a good reason. Also that song gives every member (at the time) their solo time. And a low note from Tim at about 2:30. ;-)
Avi hadn't left yet, when this was done. Home Free won the sing off, the year after PTX and I think they met hen PTX returned for the final show. PTX have a video on their channel from Avi when he said he was leaving. Basically, the pace, and the world touring took a toll on him. He's a nature guy and I think he felt he had to leave for his mental health.
Tim goes 5 octaves, he can sing a tenor also which you will see when/if you react to their cover of "Mayday". Yes, he held a growl note which is pretty impossible for most men to do, if they can do it at all. If you liked the movie "Lord Of The Rings" you should check out Peter Hollens and Tim Foust singing "Misty Mountains" It's all vocals and hauntingly good. Tim does the growl note at the end of it also. Avi was still in PTX when this video was done but left soon after to do his own thing and Home Free lost their "cowboy hat guy" baritone Chris Rupp (the beatboxer Adam Rupp's brother) around the same time, both groups lost a singer. That's when Home Free's Chance came into the baritone slot,(his name is Adam Chance but they call him "Chance" because 2 Adams in the group) but he can sing a good bass as well and often does. Anyways you'll see Chris in the earlier videos and Chance in the more current videos.
Tim Foust the Home Free bass has the ability to blow their PA system on a consistent basis. Tim has a 5 octave range with a frye growl that will shake you in your boots!!! I think this was before Avi left Pentatonix & he enjoyed the challenge of going toe to toe with another excellent bassist!!!
I love this video, love it. It’s like a group of friends out camping, standing around a fire, jamming just for the love of music, except that the instruments they are jamming with are their voices
I think he held it for 13 seconds, so much talent !!! Great reaction !!

Tim Foust has a 5 octave vocal range. If you wanna hear a song where he is featured, listen to Friends in Low Places
OR... Misty Mountains with Peter Hollens.
Also, now that you've seen enough of Tim to know he can hit the lows check out 'Mayday' for a true WTF moment.

3:27 "and he's base?" and then at the end of the song
Tim has a 5 octave range from soprano to bass. Chance joined 3 years ago and has a 4 octave range from tenor to bass, although cannot go as low as Tim. Now is the perfect time to check out their cover of Mayday by Cam. Tim sings high tenor, and Chance goes bass. They reverse their normal positions. It is an awesome cover.
Love your reactions. I agree, it was great to have two bases.
Also how great thou art gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it. So amazing!!!!!
You HAVE to do their live version of this, on the Sing-Off, and watch the judges reaction....so cool!
My favorite cover love Home Free and of course Avi...❤️❤️❤️
Who wants to see a reaction to Voice Play's cover of Oogie Boogie song?
Please more Home Free Adam Rupp is the best beatboxer ever Hillbilly Bone, Some Girls Do, Seven Bridges Road for laughs the Butts Remix, All About That Bass so many great ones but this is a good start
Hey Kyle. New to your channel. I so love Home Free. I have only just discovered them but I love Voiceplay too they are similar.
I love all the reactors faces when they hear that very last note. :-O lol
Love your reactions, man!
Impressive low note after that high note. Tim has amazing range. Avi was great for this, now we have Adam 'Chance', baritone/bass, to complement Tim and sing an amazing lead when called for. Check out I Can't Outrun You.
Dude, the look on your face at the end! 🤣
And a low note from Tim at about 2:30. ;-)
“I love it when Basses can sing.” OUCH. That hurt me on a spiritual level lol
I have been waiting for you to do this one.
It is so funny watching your reactions to these all "first times" this is what I went through when I saw these all for the first times
During the Sing Off Show, Tim hit that note even lower. It shook me.
🤣😂🔥😍🔥Love your reaction these Giys are Amazing and Tim Foust is a Beast of a Bassman 😉🥰💜🙆🏻♀️🔥😍✌🏽
