With Camp Mode, you can get through a power outage at home by using the cigarette charge port to send ~150 Watts of power to a Power Station battery w inverter. Be careful not to overtax the Power Station, but if sized right you can run a full size fridge, coffee maker, microwave, etc., but not all at once. Better than being without power.
Northern Californian here. Was loving this video until I got to the bear part. Where I camp you'd be crucified by the park rangers if you left food in your car. Bears can smell it and they'll rip the doors off, no exaggeration. Are there no bear boxes in Canada?
Maybe carry a tarp to temporary lay stuff outside while you prepare the bed area. Or I find ikea large blue bags useful for packing, loading, storage etc.
Good tip about making a camp profile. Also, if in a campground, need to turn off things like horn honk and light flashes when lock car to not disturb campground. One problem also is if you are out of Cell / Internet service, have had problems with using the App so make sure you have your key card.
Actually, locking the doors through the app when you’re in the car doesn’t work. Anyone can walk up and open your doors in the middle of the night. I know it sounds stupid, but it happened to me. So, lock them on the screen.
@@iowatesla I know! But I think it happens because your phone is still in close proximity to the car. It certainly seems like something that could be corrected with their software. Give it a try and let everyone know. Thanks!
I came to the comments for this. I actually turn my bluetooth off on my phone when camping for this. Also in your camping profile you can make sure your headlights don't do things that you don't want to do in a campsite. You can also turn off the audible lock/unlock sound.
Maybe SEXY Buttons can help with sentry mode when you use camping mode? When you are on autopilot Tesla automatically set long and low beams but with buttons you can override that. Maybe it can help with sentry mode too?
I also believe Sentry mode should function while in Camp mode for personal protection. Honestly! Insurance can cover my material losses but who would cover any human losses??? Dog mode as well if possible.
Besides the obvious use the manual says camp mode is actually what you also put if you’re going somewhere quick and another adult and child/children remain in the vehicle (or teens). I actually thought I’d put dog mode 😂😂😂😂
Hello, thanks for this excellent input on camping in Tesla. Quick question, I am going to leave for Arches National Park, Utah next month from Kansas City. How do I figure out on the way e.g. Denver, CO a safe place to park my Tesla and sleep in the car. E.g, do I have to search for a campground in Denver, CO? Or there would be other places ??
You can safely park overnight at a truck stop (or rest stops) on the highways and sleep there. Just make sure you have enough battery (recommend above 40 to 50%) before you decide to stop for night. I recently made a video in hindi about my experience sleeping at a truck stop in my tesla at a truck stop in New Mexico on interstate, hopefully you find it useful : ua-cam.com/video/ddU0Rf0LqAk/v-deo.html
I’ve had good luck Tesla camping at or near superchargers. Las Vegas NM motels wanted $100+ for a short night. Instead, while plugged in charging, I dragged out my sleeping bag+single camping mattress+pillow from the sub-trunk, and used the lobby restroom. Then camp mode kept me warm on a 15º night in a level parking spot. Come sunrise I re-charged to top off while I re-used the restroom then on the road again
Do you know if you are in camp mode if you can use the 12v outlets if the car is not plugged in. Would it draw power from the main car battery or the smaller battery?
I have not found a quick way to do this. Nothing like Plugshare for campsites. Just did the necessary digging. Found a campsite and determined if they had power. Sometimes you don't know what you're going to get. At minimum, it will be a TT-30 connection. Fortunately, they had better power here. Thanks for watching!
wow, those bears and deer... Im in northern ontario and I wouldnt be comfortable at a campsite with large wildlife walking around like that.. especially with the bears.. would freak me out too much. I dont care how used to people they are... bears can be very dangerous.

Superb camp site and scenary. Thanks for the tip for parking slightly front facing downwards to flatten out the bed. Cheers

Im saving up to buy a tesla model y and go live in it. Saving me a ton of of rent

All great points! Thanks for watching!
I would have considered the key card. Thanks for that tip
Luckily, if there is no internet service, you can still get into your car with your phone since it's bluetooth and no internet required.

Wow! I need to test this for myself. I can’t believe Tesla would have done this on purpose.

@@bluedog9935 Going to test this today and report back. If I can duplicate, I will put out a short video on it. Thanks for the feedback!!!!

I would think you'd want to see the stars if possible with that big open roof.
Great video, great views, & great wildlife! Can’t believe they came so close.
Thanks Brian. It was an awesome site. The elk didn't care that we were there. It was impossible to give them the recommended distance of 100 feet.
I really like the advice for camping in your tesla, especially the use of camp mode and its pros and cons.
Glad you found it helpful!
Love the Banff/Jasper/Yoho area. May need to make that trip in our Model Y.
Highly recommended.
I love your channel. One of the best Tesla channels I’ve come across. Great content! Cheers
Thanks! I appreciate that!
Baymax seats slayed me. 😂 People are so clever
Thanks!
nice video, can you turn off the screen under camp mode?
Very helpful video. When camp mode is on, does the screen showing the campsite stay on all night or can it be shut off?
It turns on for about 15 minutes and then then screen goes blank.
I’ve been wondering this too, thanks

Agreed. Would be nice to be able to pull up the cameras while in the car too.
@@iowatesla Just use Keep mode for temp instead?
@@metageist666this is the way 👍
If you’re plugged in, is there any point to camp mode? Why not just leave it in normal?
This is 🔥
Would the car “hold” its charge overnight in camp mode but plugged only into 120v 20amp standard outlet?
I’ve seen somewhere that it only consumes 10 percent a night without being plugged
How long for the Campfire Screen to come on?
It took approximately 11 minutes for my Camp mode to activate., thanks.
Finally sets up the bed at about 8:52. 👍
There is a lot more to car camping than setting up a bed.
Make difference on your first camping experience. But your window shade aren’t great check out bearded Tesla guy window shades
Nice explanation
Nice video!
For the tent will it be ok if i have the rear cargo?
where can i get those eyes for my seats? they look like BAYMAX!
What about the air quality? Does the Tesla pull in fresh air all night?
It's odd that camp mode disables the interior lights. I ended up having to hang a lamp from the clothes hook right beside the interior lamp. Stupid!
May I ask, is it safe to sleep in a Tesla Model Y with the windows closed, and how does the car maintain air quality in this scenario?
Why not 110 v ? In case that’s the only available it’s ok to use right ?
On 110V, you will still lose charge while you sleep. Camp Mode will draw more than you are putting in. That said, 110V is better than no power at all.
Great video. How did you like the mattress? Is it comfortable? I’m looking at that exact one and wondering if it’s as good as the reviews say it is
Recorder around 9 pm but the sky doesnt look dark lol

1 more vote for dog mode!

1. Yes
2. I believe the smaller battery runs the 12v outlet and would get recharged by the big battery.
Has anyone had a pushback from campgrounds for camping in an RV site in your car?
the site is not free. $ moves everything around me.
Yes, many sites will not allow anything under the size of a small RV. Won't even allow you to reserve the spot

Why would it be dangerous to leave engine on while camping in a regular car?
Risk of noxious fumes entering the cabin and killing you
The risk is carbon monoxide making it’s way into the cabin of the car.
Best to invest in a carbon monoxide detector. Not sure if it should be set on the floor in a low spot I think.
Pro tip carry bear spray with you at all times
💯
and bears can smell food in car
does camp mode give you fresh outside air? Or does it just re-circulate your internal air?
I think it’s only outside air.
So you put the window coverings on the outside of the windows? What kind of looney idea is that anybody can come up and open them up and look inside
They are “socks” for the windows they cover both sides. Nothing to remove from the outside.
trsla car camping good👍
Yes it is.
You really milked our desire to see you unroll that mattress for all you were worth.
"The next step is unrolling the bed...but first...." 🙄😂

Y Camp mode?? It's Boring. Go for Thermal runaway mode ..
would never sleep in a charging car but i also dont walk under ladders
I bet you sleep beside your charging phone.
Food in the car to invite bears to join you? Nah. Doesn’t sound very safe.
Amazing
