Ben, this was very helpful. Thanks. It’s interesting because on Barry’s solo piano recording on UA-cam he plays I Should Care in Db. I wonder if he uses the same reharm there?
Love this kind of analysis. I've been trying to analyze some of your recordings and at this point, it's a matter of retention because there is so much going on at once. I can hear where there are "cookie cutter voicings" thrown in, but it's when you add extra voices for added color at will that throws me off. Gotta woodshed, I guess. Very hip stuff.
Thanks James! Voicings can be some of the trickiest things to add. I've definitely stood behind some of my favorite pianists and watched them play chords that completely baffled me haha. Sometimes it can seem like there's a lot happening at once, but the best way to improve is to just take one idea like this one at a time and really work it into your playing, just building vocabulary / voicings / reharm / improv, whatever it is, step by step.
@@BenPatersonMusic Thank you for the encouragement and advice! I think it can be overwhelming when theory and analysis far outweighs technical facility but I'm definitely going to try and be more conscious of specific and focused practice goals. Can't wait to see the next livestream!
Very cool turn around!
