The Legendary Megumi Hayashibara. Very well known for the voice of Lina Inverse in Slayers, Musashi (Jessie) in Pokemon, the titular character Nuku Nuku, Rei Ayanami and Yui Ikari in Neon Genesis Evangelion, Female Ranma Saotome in Ranma ½, and Faye Valentine in Cowboy Bebop. She's also the Japanese Batgirl.
I knew her for Ayanami Rei in Evangelion, then I looked at her filmography and found Haibara Ai there, didn't notice any voice actors/actresses when I first watched anime lol
Rumour has it that she is unwilling to enter the world of on-screen acting, only backstage voice-acting, because she is not confident of her looks. She looks beautiful here and elsewhere.
It's no rumor and very much true. Her way of thinking is that she doesn't want kids to see that their favorite fictional character don't match up with the real life voice actor who voices them. And yes, there is that part about her not feeling confident about her own looks. I don't know why she would look down upon herself like that, because she is a rare beauty the world has ever seen (granted, when she was in her early 20s her teeth were a bit crooked and she was using braces to correct them, it got better after she entered her 30s) That being said, she did make at least 2 film appearances. The End of Evangelion live action portion, which wasn't initially released for the theatrical version until much later, and the one they did include in the film, a very grainy shot of her with Yuko Miyamura and Kotono Mitsuishi. The other appearance was in a 2000 Japanese sci-fi film called "Juvenile", where she played a nameless female researcher with like 3 lines or so (it was basically a cameo she made on the request of the director), but she does voice one of the central character in the film though You should see the Japanese dub of 1996's Scream, where she dubs the voice of Casey in the opening 11 minutes, she has massive talents playing horror roles, very convincing
Frankly, I was surprised that back in the '90s a show as popular as Sailor Moon, and she had nothing to do with it, no characters to voice, not even an OP/ED song to sing. It took this long just for her to get a role in the franchise, but on the upside, it's no coincidence she ends up with Galaxia, the strongest senshi in the franchise. A person of her caliber deserves nothing less than the best
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megumi_Hayashibara Still voicing Jessie and Ai, and some others. Yes, even in 2018 she's still going strong, lol. Seriously she's one of THE BEST VA's there was and is.
I agree. And, being a huge fan of her career, I'm so proud to state I got over 50 songs from her in mp3, right here on my computer (which is rare, as you won't find most of them anywhere on the web nowadays), as well as 2 original CDs from Japan (Bertemu and Iravati). I'm 34 years old, and sometimes I still catch myself listening and singing her tunes. :)
Funny, I'm also exactly that old (and male) - and I'm still a fan of stuff like Sailor Moon and Digimon, lol. It's a very funny misconception that anime is "just for kids" - and I do mean "kid shows", not "adult stuff". Heck, even some Western "kid shows" had learned enough from anime to make quite palatable plots and scenarios even for rather adult watchers.

It's probably better for her mental health that she doesn't.
