Never heard of this and considered making one with ESPHome/32 but this is prebuilt so I just ordered one. I've a smart plug on the air fryer and will use this in an automation with the food probe temp so I don't overcook meat.
This would be great for smoking foods. If they come out with a dual sensor, one for the ambient and another for the brisket. Just ordered a one for the freezer!
I hit them up about doing dual probe on the existing one and it might be possible with some YAML changes.
Lol, i was talking with a buddy yesterday about making something like this. and then you made this video today. thats wild
It's a pretty cool design. I like the buzzer and LED part on it
I threw a zigbee temperature sensor in my freezer some time back to help warn if it stopped running. Old fridge would pop the outlet breaker from time to time.
A few of us use power monitoring as well but I think temperature is the optimal solution.
Love the Whiskey cubes the Freezer.... LOL
Cool Reolink CES swag from 2024!
I found that the wire caused troubling air leaks (freezer grows ice) when I just closed the door on it. I ended up slicing through the gasket and sealing with silicone. My cable wasn't flat though.
Since I'm using an 8266 I also added a reed switch at the top of the door for "left open" alarm.
Found out on a brand new fridge/freezer that temp set to minimum was getting up to 42F consistently.
Yes! I was surprised how off the temps were on the fridge side!!! I always had a BT one on the freezer side so I knew those temps were fine.
@@digiblurDIY The wire is annoying (and to some extent may also leak a bit), so I have tried various BT/Zigbee/WIFI sensors in fridge/freezer but most are NOT good for keeping the battery life for longer periods.
BUT the Shelly BLU H&T (very small Zigbee, even with a small button) keeps on going 🙂
Dude is eating perfectly cooked poison. Look at the ingredients. ❤❤😂
RFK was popping out of the box yelling at me.
Where do you think OG gets his on-demand Hulk-like strength from? Or Travis, when he needs to lift his "big massive flash light"?
Needs a screen to display the temp instead of relying on your phone, also some buttons to set the desired temp outside of ha
Yup... I mentioned this to them in the video and a physical switch on the battery one.
Great video. Wonder if the temp probe is good enough for monitoring the oven temperature? Would love a oven temperature sensor so that I can check if the oven is working properly.
You would need the food probe one due to the heat range. "1m (~3ft) Stainless Steel Food-Safe Probe (NTC) - Max 350°C (662°F). Perfect for grilling, baking, and food prep (not dishwasher safe)."
@@digiblurDIY Thanks. Will add it to my purchase list. Just last week, I fixed my fridge. It ended up being the Cold Control Thermostat. I had the Inkbird BT sensor in the fridge and freezer and alerted me of the issue. I monitored the temps and replaced two parts.
It's like the first time that water leak sensor saves your tail.
Time to cook Heisenberg 😄👍
Lol....thats what OG's coach calls me
Need a dual probe version for fridge/freezer. Don’t wanna buy two of them. Maybe a limitation tied to analog sensors??
I do wonder if that could be done with a splitter given it is a dallas sensor. Let me ping the Apollo peeps
I use switchbot meter in fridge.
I use one in my freezer, BT AAA style in the door. No audible alarm though.
Are any of these probes waterproof? I would like one for my sousvide bath - Not my bath - oh you know....
The two non-food probes state they are submersible as one use case is for aquariums. The food one just says "1m (~3ft) Stainless Steel Food Safe"
Does it work with a smartphone? That would be convenient, no Bluetooth?
I have one and it worka great however it only lasts a day on battery and if i use the sleep settings when it wakes up it reports the temp is 185F
I haven't seen that yet. Definitely contact their support
I use the MI temp sensors that i converted the Bluetooth to zigbee for under $2. And it has a display.
Neat product, wrong application or installation. I am gonna call out that having a probe wire go past door seals is a bad idea. I would strongly recommend against that. That’s an especially bad idea where the indoor versus outdoor temps have a large delta (the freezer). An imperfect seal is going to let heat and moisture in the fridge. It is also going to increase condensation, freezer frost, and make the compressor work harder. You’ll likely have more screwy temps inside using a corded probe overall, compounding any existing potential appliance issue. For a serious corded install, one must use a cable gland or some environmental seal. I would prefer a AA BT temp sensor for the application myself. A better application for the product might be grilling perhaps?
I do wish the cord was a little flatter but I haven't seen any ice build up from exchanging air or changes in the energy usage from it. I've been using a AAA battery switchbot sensor in the freezer door.
@@digiblurDIY I appreciate your open mindedness in light of me being pretty critical. Ice buildup would not occur in your case due to freezer type. The extra energy would happen behind the curtain at the compressor. In a manual defrost freezer, it wouldn't take long for the inside to be Kris Kringle'd. One time I left a bit of bag in the seal of our manual defrost garage freezer and even that tiny opening caused full frosting frustration. One thing to consider - if you're not experiencing energy use change over the period of a month, could your seals be bad to begin with perhaps? Take a look at 3:37 - there are drips on the ceiling. Was a cord installed there in the past? Secondly, I can see light in your fridge seal. I would consider investigating what frigidaire might say about replacing your seal. If you had a warm spot in the corner opposite the hinge before probe, it may be replacement time. Thanks for not completely dismissing my comment. I don't write feedback the greatest and come off like a dingleberry sometimes.
Correction: 3:35 - 3:37 : compartment to door transition has condensation.
yes I had the door open multiple times during the video and it doesn't take long for the humidity in the house to do its thing. I had a big massive flash light inside to check the seal to see if it was leaking. I've had the freezer get jammed open and it makes ice all over everything. I haven't seen any issues with the seal, the freezer and fridge is a big POS though, I've fixed the icemaker way too many times the design is horrible.
@@digiblurDIY I have a GE side-by-side that looks very similar to your Electrolux. Yes, the icemaker sucks, especially getting access. I'm thinking of disabling it and getting a stand-alone icemaker.
The AAA-powered BT Govee thermometers on each side work very well with HA; so far 18 months on the same batteries. The one in the fridge side shows close to the same temp where ever it is located, but then my fridge is usually quite full, so there is less cold air pouring out the bottom, and warm air replacing it, when the door is opened.
Thanks for another great video!
