    My lights gradually change color throughout the day, from warm white in the morning to cool white in the middle of the day, back to warm white in the evening.
    I also have a script for opening and closing windows based on temperature, absolute humidity, humidex, air quality, and weather conditions, which recommends opening or closing the windows when necessary. You can mark phone notifications as emergency and/or sticky so they'll push through do not disturb and can't be dismissed.

    • @SmartHomeSolver
      @SmartHomeSolver  2 місяці тому +6

      Thanks for the tip! I’m adding the sticky: true field to the Android notification and it doesn’t seem like it’s doing anything. The channel: alarm_stream makes a difference on my phone if it’s in do not disturb mode but if it’s not then the notification just comes across like normal 🤷‍♂️

    • @Renegade605
      @Renegade605 2 місяці тому +1

      @@SmartHomeSolver it might also be the persistent flag that I'm thinking of. I know that between sticky and persistent one means it doesn't go away when you tap on it and one means that it can't be dismissed but I don't remember which one is which. I think it also needs to have a tag, otherwise there's no way to clear it remotely.
      On Android you can also use the channel to make those notifications higher priority so they don't get buried like the example you showed in this video.
      Overall I remember the notifications being pretty picky but it's been a while since I played with them. Best to just experiment with all the different features from the docs for a while to figure out how they work though.

    For iPhone users, the reminders app has a built in list type just for groceries, and when you add items to it it even categorizes them based on the isle they are typically found on in a store. If you move an item like “cheez-its” from the deli section to the snacks section, it will remember that for the future.
    Really easy to share reminder lists, and a big plus is that Siri is fast with adding items and doesn’t talk your ear off as punishment lol. Oh you can even add multiple items with one command.

    For lights: Warm white, but not 2200K or similar, that is way too warm. 3000K to 4000K is where it's at.
    4000K if you use them during day, 3500K if it's more during evening (before sunset), and 3000K if you mostly use them after sunset.
    You could go lower, but if you need to use 2200K bulb during the day at all, it looks crap.

    One little trick for the smart bulb vs smart switch. Buy a Lutron pico remote and the wall plate adapter (and hard wire your bulbs). You can then detect when the buttons are pushed on the remote and trigger the bulbs in Home Assistant. Benefit, you can use an automation that can not only turn the light on and off but you can also change the luminosity or color… ;-)

    My kids broke my dishwasher door too, and I also like to open to air dry, but I have a narrow galley kitchen. One of my kids holds the world record for flipping over the dishwasher, which is why it is broken lol. The solution I found to allowing it to air dry safely, is to put a piece of paracord with a hook on each end. Most dishwashers have a latch door closure it can hook onto, or slip a large loop around the whole door and use a carabiner or hook to secure it to the latch. It allows dishes to dry with the door ajar to your desired opening and limits circus acts in the kitchen lol

    Clock Reset - This may or may not work with your microwave, but I set up a very simple dumb clock reset for three clocks in our house. If the batteries are removed, the clocks reset to the same time (12 pm in this case) every time the power is cycled. So I added a smart plug and turn off the power for about 15 seconds ending at 12 pm every day. This means the clocks are always very accurate and I don't have to reset them after a power outage or for Daylight Saving Time. The down side is that I may have to endure up to a day of incorrect time if a power outage is soon after the reset. Two of the clocks annoyingly beeped every time the power came back on, so I opened them up and carefully scratched a gap in the circuit leading to the beeper on the printed circuit board. Since we did not need the alarms in these clocks, the beeping problem was solved.

My mom doesn't really care and will when changing out light bulb when it dies will just usually just pick a random one from the loose light bulb box. I can usually tell when two lights and not the same and will fix it because it bothers me. Non matching light bulb color temperature and brightness bothers me more then warm vs cool. They don't have to be matching light bulb brands or anything just as long as the lumens and color temperature matches. If I am at home and it's not a 2700k light bulb in any I will change it and go to the store to get more if needed.

    Is there a reason for leaving the sidebar visible on the dashboard? I'm also a big fan of removing the top bard as well so it looks less like a browser page.

    Do you have any automation for the egg cooker, so that it will switch off when the eggs are cooked? Mine has an alarm, but I'd like it to switch itself off when they are done so I don't have to rush back to the kitchen

    1:26 Burrito bowls on Thursday and sushi on Friday . Can I move in?
    Edit: I now see that the list is a feature, which is also cool.

    What are you using for the banner pop ups? And does the pixel show photos when no motion is detected from the camera?

    From the looks of your microwave/oven I have the same or similar model with the same issue. It has a setting where you can have it get the time from WiFi instead of manually setting it and it fixed the fast clock.

      It's been a while so I checked to see how to do this, you have to set it to auto-update based on location in the Whirlpool app.

    5:16 they screwed up the USB-C connector. You need to use a cable that’s A-C with it, because C-C doesn’t supply any power until it knows something is connected, which is what they screwed up.

    U can order dishwasher friction pads to keep the door from falling when you open it. Same thing happened to me and I have the same dishwasher u have. Easy inexpensive fix.
