Letitia, you are such a breath of fresh air! This marie-kondo craze is great and all but people are just deciding to throw everything out, but the ultimate solution is to be more resourceful with what we have and stop impulse buying everything! lol

The problem is people donate and forget that second hand/thrift stores end up throwing out a lot of things they are given. the best way is to trade or sell what is actually usable, get your things in the hands of people who will actually use what you are letting go of. Be more concious of what you are purchasing to break the cycle more often.... etc.

Sadly, our society (mostly companies) has thrived on the use of plastics because of their cost and availability. A lot of companies will resist using other materials because they are more expensive, and a lot of citizens will resist using other materials because it’s less convenient. The biggest thing that will help the environment is a massive mindset change. We’re on our way but we’re not there yet 😞.

A bubble tea straw! I was just talking about them the other day. I've never seen a reusable bubble tea straw before. I just decided to keep and wash one out last time I bought bubble tea.
You can get them on Amazon too! I got 5 of them for 10€ just two weeks ago. This way I have one in each backbag/purse and I never leave without one. You never know when you'll stop for bubble tea 😄
after the folding of the curtain, i had a lightbulb moment because it registered that it was mesh. brilliant! you can even use it as a laundry bag for delicates (which is what i immediately thought)
I had to get rid of my sewing machine and when I found out about re usable produce bags, I got a couple delicates laundry bags. I just weight my produce first, then put them back in the bag, but the 2 cent differents shouldn't really hurt.

The thing about turning old mesh curtains into produce bags is genius. I even have an old curtain already I could use. Was originally planning to use some cheesecloth from my stash but that is a much better idea. Thank you!

I've been watching a lot of sustainable videos lately, and what I really enjoyed of yours is the DIYs you made. Starting a more sustainable life doesn't mean throwing everything out to buy plastic free, reusable items, but by using what you already have to move forward. Love the cotton rounds and mesh bag hack! What a great simple way to refuse fabrics. You should look into DIY wax food wrap! I've seen videos floating around on youtube and they don't seem difficult

I’ve heard a few people commenting about a reusable bubble tea straw and just wanted to recommend The Cara Company! They have a few types and all straws have a pointy bottom to poke through lids.
Hi Letitia, Just discovered your channel and appreciated the sustainability hacks you provided, as well as your explanation of the reason why black plastics are not sorted due to the optical sorters being unable to detect them on conveyer belts. I find that a lot of people making videos about zero waste are not fully informed about how waste is created in the first place or how it is mechanically sorted, and instead they give referral links to zero waste products that in fact, do not reduce waste but rather encourage people to buy more things. I wanted to point out that on your comment about Styrofoam: The reason why it isn't typically recycled is that it is not cost-efficient. You are correct, in that there is technology to do so. I'm based out of San Francisco and did a senior research project on their waste management system. I've seen their recycling facility and how Styrofoam is melted and shaped into condensed blocks. The problem is that there are few markets for the end product of recycled Styrofoam. The cost of melting it down and reprocessing it exceeds the cost of creating new Styrofoam, as it is a very cheap material. Hope that sheds some light on your question! I look forward to watching your future videos :)
Those food wraps you can also easily make out of left over cotton cloths from your sewing. Just iron some bee wax in which you can get on the internet or just ask local beekeeper if you know one. To iron it in just use baking paper.
L O V E your produce bag hack!!! Reusable produce bags are insanely pricey for what they are, so I only have one that I bought on impulse at my local co-op
If you're into DIY, you can also totally make those wax-wrappers yourself! My SO did this for Christmas - all you need is some beeswax, some used (and washed) sturdy cloth you can cut to pieces, and a clothes iron! Just make sure to have something protecting your board and your iron from the wax (a couple of sheets of baking paper will work wonders) and be careful not to burn it! 😊 Amazing tips overall!! By the way, if anyone is by any chance wondering about the music in the background, the track's called 'Ocean Express' and it's made by me!

Great hacks! Instead of buying huge containers every time for your house products and bathroom products, refill stations are also great! Not sure about the price comparison with supermarket goods though.
A lil tip: you can wrap an old newspaper around your compost can so you don’t have to use a plastic bag! 🥰 I don’t know how exactly to wrap it to make it actually stay, but I’m sure it’s on google!
I hang dry my laundry instead of using a machine dryer. Since I live in a small apartment, I have a foldable drying rack. On the rare occasions that I do use the dryer, I don't use sheets or dryer balls at all. Just the clothes. I never seem to have a problem with it.

you can make moisturiser bars (an ecosia search away) and buy shampoo, conditioner and body wash in bars which have less packaging and use less water. bar soap is much better than liquid soap as it can come in cardboard packaging and uses less water. i know lush sells soaps and body washes, there is a store in NZ (where i live) called ethique which does great hair and body products, and on each package tells you how much water you have saved in litres.
you can make your own reusable food wraps!! 100% cotton, melt beeswax in the oven and dip the fabric in! I made 10 of them in varying sizes for the cost of beeswax.
my family is very cheap too, so we generally are more eco-friendly without meaning to be, like using water bottles, not taking flyers, eating at home, buying second-hand, selling items, etc
fun fact: starbucks can give you your drink in a ceramic mug if you ask, and it’ll take 10 cents off your order! you could try this at another cafe or cafe chain too. also, the zero waste blogger litterless is a great resource! i especially like the nothing new section- about how you don’t need much to reduce your waste.
they do let you use your own cup (but you can’t use glass for hot drinks), but ceramic mugs are available at the cafe to use whenever you want- you don’t have to bring one
Nice video! I really liked the t shirt into cotton pads hack:) but I wouldn’t recommend fleece as a sustainable fabric to use. Fleece is usually made out of polyester or other synthetic material witch are plastic. These fabrics give of micro plastic that will end up in the ocean when washed...
Love the DIYs and app suggestions! 💚 Not consuming animal products (wool, Dove, etc) is also a huge environmental thing we can toward a more sustainable life 💚
You can actually make liquid hand soap and laundry detergent from bar soap. It's cheap and sold everywhere. Many places sell it without any additional packaging, and if you can't find that, most come only in cardboard boxes without plastic. I even cheaper and more green.

Girl I just got my boba straw cause I know the exact obsession - they are amazing! I am an English teacher in Seoul, so I am actually doing a 'Save the Earth' themed camp and will be giving away low waste items as part of the prizes for good behaviour. I was actually surprised by how much styrophome was used here for delivery items as it isn't used as much elsewhere, but it's great that it's so well recycled.

Canada is really behind in the recycling game, so I try to be as minimal with my waste as possible. It's hard to do all at once but take baby steps.

they do let you use your own cup (but you can’t use glass for hot drinks), but ceramic mugs are available at the cafe to use whenever you want- you don’t have to bring one
Nice video! I really liked the t shirt into cotton pads hack:) but I wouldn’t recommend fleece as a sustainable fabric to use. Fleece is usually made out of polyester or other synthetic material witch are plastic. These fabrics give of micro plastic that will end up in the ocean when washed...

You can actually make liquid hand soap and laundry detergent from bar soap. It's cheap and sold everywhere. Many places sell it without any additional packaging, and if you can't find that, most come only in cardboard boxes without plastic. I even cheaper and more green.

Girl I just got my boba straw cause I know the exact obsession - they are amazing! I am an English teacher in Seoul, so I am actually doing a 'Save the Earth' themed camp and will be giving away low waste items as part of the prizes for good behaviour. I was actually surprised by how much styrophome was used here for delivery items as it isn't used as much elsewhere, but it's great that it's so well recycled.
