As one of the marathon majors in the greatest city in the world, the NYRR NYC Marathon is a must-do race for all serious runners. Here are some tips and all you need to know to get your very own NYC marathon poncho!
    #TCSNYCMarathon #NYRR
    In this video, we'll cover:
    • Transportation to the start of the NYC Marathon in Fort Wadsworth, Staten Island
    • An optimal place to get a bottle hand-off with fresh @Maurten Official from a friend
    • Why mile 13 is where you will feel like you're having the race of your life on the Pulaski Bridge
    • Why miles 15-16 you will consider dropping out on the Queensboro Bridge
    • Why mile 23 is either your moment to drop people or start your excuses
    • Why qualifying for the NYRR NYC Marathon isn't as big a deal as qualifying for the BAA Boston Marathon

    Perfect description of NYCM. I took the bus option rather than the ferry in 2019, no idea which one is actually a bigger pain in the ass. And the wait in the village is long, definitely longer than Boston It's my 2nd favorite marathon I think. Can't beat Boston (I'm also from Mass so, I'm biased).
    And that walk for the poncho. It took forever. I think every major is like this.
    I'll probably do it again, I'm now into the 45 AG for 2023 so I get old lady qualification times.

    • @levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183
      @levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183 Рік тому

      I’m way older than 45 so I get jokingly easy “old lady qualifications”. So I thought about straying from my Bos streak and trying NY but I couldn’t get through the registration queue in time to get the good-for-age entry. That’s a feat in itself. So which is worse? All those bridges or the Newton hills? Not sure I want to get pee’d on before even getting started.

    • @littlerunner4505
      @littlerunner4505 Рік тому

      @@levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183 IMO the 40-44 isn't that easy for Boston, and definitely not for NYCM (sub 3:26 marathon at 44 is nothing to sneeze at). But the extra 10 mins 45-49 for Boston - that is luxurious. Even NYCM, I now need a 1:42 half which I can do in training vs a 1:37 which is a lot harder.
      Was there difficulty getting into NYCM with a qualification time? I got into 2019 with marathon time qualification but I don't know if post-covid it got crazy. I also jumped on registration right away (could have been within hours of them opening it up) and I believe operate on a first-come first-served basis.

      @@littlerunner4505 I was joking--none of it’s really easy for anyone; that’s why it’s age-graded! I was meaning to say, though, that NY age-qualifying time gets way way easier than Boston’s when you’re much older. And yes about NYC-I was trying to register w/qualification time last year from around the time it opened and it took so long to get to the actual registration page, that by the time I filled it out for age-qualification their quota had filled since it’s 1st come 1st served as you mention. Unlike Chicago, which you can supposed guarantee anytime during the registration period from what I’ve heard.

    I'm a "hobby jogger" and have run 2 NYC Marathons. Both times I took the Staten Island at around 8:15-8:30am for an 11:45 start time. After the bus ride to the staging area, my wait time was just about an hour. At the staging area, I had not once waited long for a porta-john.

    Good stuff here, thanks for posting. Longtime participant in the NYCM, just offering some thoughts... The Queensboro Bridge is a hard stretch, no question about that. I have always found its silence a great rest from the madness/loudness of the crowd there in Queens, and before the madness/loudness on First Avenue. As far as climbing goes... all the bridges are tough, the easiest and shortest is the last from the Bronx into Manhattan for the last time. For me, the hardest mile on the course includes Mile 23 as mentioned here... it's part of what I called the "Fifth Avenue Staircase", and that late in the race, everything is hurting, especially going uphill. Don't forget... Central Park South is a long, if gradual, uphill as well.
    All this being said, I wish I was going to be out there with everyone again this year.
    Good luck to all, an indeed EPIC day awaits you. All the best Runners... Jack NYC

    About to go on my final NYC long training run starting here in Midtown... Detroit. If it feels good I'll just run right into the pathetic Lions game against the Dolphins. Here in Detroit, prep for our race(which was 2 weeks ago even though I didn't fo it this year after getting selected for NYC)is far easier. All 4 times I was able to bike to and from 3 miles locking it up about 1000ft from the start. I woke up later for our 7am race than I'll have to for the 9am race. This better be as good. Our first 6 miles are kind of as spectacular going over the Ambassador Bridge to Canada and back through the tunnel(only underwater tunnel segment of any marathon).
