Thanks for the excellent and timely course preview👍. Will be running NYC for the 1st time in a few weeks, and have been doing research on UA-cam. There is a Google Earth video that shows the constant elevation changes throughout the course, which confirms your point about the lack of flat sections. Best of luck to everyone running the race this November!
Of the world major ls course, this is considered the 2nd hardest after Boston. That being said, just be aware that you will be working hard at times. Now you know. It’s a magical race and time in NYC around the event. Enjoy my home city and have an amazing race! You got this! 💪🏻🤙🏻
Having just run a rolling hill marathon, during post tropical storm Philippe, with about 910feet of elevation gain. No single hill was terrible, but the accumulation of the constant up/down takes a toll. I run with a power meter, so I naturally ease off on the uphills and put the hammer down on the downhills to try and keep the overall RPE/Power uniform. Throw in all the rain and wind, and it was a tough day. I wish I had eased off the gas a bit to account for the obstacles (rain/wind) better in the first half, so I would have had a closer to even split day. Experienced gained. This analysis will surely help 1st time NYC marathon runners. Well done!
Thank you for this video! I ran the NYC Marathon (my first) last year in 2022. It was life changing and all the things you mentioned. I'm a bit sad not to be running it this year. I ran Denver (my city) and Chicago this year - but I will always love NYC. Wishing you a great day and race!
@@SagasuRunning Yes, I love all things New York (including the marathon) and this video is bringing back the nostalgia. I knew if I ran the marathon it had to be NYC first. Thank you!
@timothynowak2813 As a native New Yorker, I wanted the NYC marathon to be my first official in person Marathon too… but it didn’t work out that way. However, now that I’m finally running it… it’s all good.
Thank you for this. You kind of made me excited and a little nervous about my race. But I do like to know what’s coming and be prepared. Struck by fact that this race has a sustained incline at about mile 23 just like London does - nasty tricks!
I’m glad this was useful for you! So 108-90th is uphill, 90th to 59th is mostly downhill (with some rollers and a small steep uphill), 59th is a false flat but steeper than most expect and the last 500m is uphill. So the end of the course works you hard for sure.
Love the vid! Wondering if you’ve done the Taipei marathon? If so, would love to see a breakdown of that or any other Taiwan race that you think has a scenic course. Planning a stay with my friends there in the next year or so and want to include a race in my itinerary.
I have done the Taipei Marathon, both the half and full. It’s an interesting course. I may consider it. I don’t know Taipei as well as NYC… so there is that. I do have some more Taiwan running I want to cover. Stay tuned. Thank you for the support! 🙌🏻
You are in for something g then if this is your first time. I think Bkue wave is like Green… I think you are also on the bottom deck of the Verrazano Bridge (I’m not 100% sure). I am in Pink Wave 1 C… the start will be chaos but have a great race!
@@markoljustina Like I said in the video. Get over the bridge and onto 4th, that’s where the race starts as you’ll finally have space. Until then it will be survival fighting through the crowd.
Hit your marks in your build. So your long runs AND hill work, preferably both together. Don’t cut corners in your build and don’t “hope for the best” on race day. The NYC course will grind you down if you didn’t put in the work to race it.
HI, I'm intersted to use your video on our documentary. I would like to know your terms and condition for us to also avoid a copyright strike. please let me know how to personally get in touch with you. thanks
Anyone know whether the 59th st Bridge Lower Roadway and the FDR North bound will be closed Sunday from 7am to 9am and if so can you provide link as well?
59th street bridge is basically closed from 6am-4:30pm… no clue about the FDR. The marathon doesn’t go on the FDR, but I can imagine they may close something around there for security. Only link I found, form last year but it’s the same route so you can assume same things. www.timeout.com/newyork/things-to-do/nyc-marathon-road-closures?package_page=78628
@@SagasuRunning For some reason the traffic advisory was only until the 29th yesterday. I guess we still have to wait until they mention the road closures for this weekend. Reason I ask is because I am supposed to be going on a car cruise this Sunday morning up to North Salem and the 59th st Bridge to the FDR is my go to route.
@@DragoMusivini You should look for an alternative route. It’s going to be a mess. The Tri-boro bridge to the Bruckner will be a better bet up to Westchester
WoW! What a well invested half hour!! Thank you so much for doing this! So thorough and efficient and the same time!
Good luck on your race!

Well that was a bit depressing! Sounds like the whole thing is up hill 😂 Need to run with the mantra “what goes up must come down!”

Agree. Early Nov. can be SO much more brutal in the Tri-State area! We did have great weather for the day.

No. You can get a bid via the lottery. You can also submit a qualifying time to get an entry, but it’s not required like Boston.
