Love the point of reference of "apocalypse"! Ready to try the new VIVObarefoot Tracker Forest ESC? With Michelin soles ;) That's what I am review hunting for but happy to come across your review of the previous verson. Very helpful, thank you!
Hey! I used them in Norway on very strenuous terrain of all types, with a very heavy pack. I would say by the 7th day my feet were fried, but everybody's feet are fried after big days like that. I'm not sure how I would feel after weeks and weeks of backpacking, but I was just most of all satisfied with not having any blisters or rubbing for the duration of the trip.
Leather isn't water proof unless you waterproof it. Look after the leather and it will be waterproof. Im not surprised it lets in water after two years.
Yes they will come with waterproofing in the leather when they first come. It just needs to be maintained. My critism is that as this is the case with all leather shoes, it isn't really fair to mark down a specific brand due to lack of maintenance on your part. Anyway apart from that I enjoyed your review and the video.
Have you had to fix the soles over the this period? I find that I have to glue some parts to stop them from breaking. ua-cam.com/video/IimgDqWT2zE/v-deo.html
I reckoned substantional looking boot like this would be more waterproof. I Wanted to use it like an everyday shoe in snow, rain and sleet, but now I'm not so sure anymore...
wibblegorm That is an old brand. I got my pair roughly 1 year ago and they've improved the brand. I took mine hiking in Arizona, and I completely destroyed them as best I could. They handled like champs, then I went back to my snowy state and my feet have never gotten wet stepping in puddles. I wear mine everyday and they are still in tip top shape, feet are always comfortable and dry in the winter and in the summer my feet stay cool. IMO the trackers get a solid 5/5
wibblegorm I don't know that, sorry. They're on sale right now for black Friday and if I had the money I would buy another pair. I'm thinking if these guys last 4 years then they're worth their weight in gold.
I've put these boots through absolute hell, and my feet have never seen a single blister or discomfort, so definitely not a piece of shit. But the newer version has a much better sole, which was necessary.
I work in a green house and water all day long and my feet get soaked in the boats I wear right now. Do you think these boots would hold up constantly everyday as for being waterproof and not leaking water in?
Yeah they breathe well for sure. They are the most comfortable boots I have ever worn. The best word I can think of is "cozy". And for how rugged conditions they can meet, cozy is pretty great
2 words... LEATHER CONDITIONER. lol
Would love to see a review from you on the updated boot if you bought them. Thanks
After two years that's not bad for how much tread is left on them. How many miles have you hiked/walked in these?
Not anywhere close to I would consider "heavy" like he claims.

Did you get them? I just got these boots because they were on offer so about £60 cheaper than the forest esc.
@@dmythica Yes. Thick and Heavy but waterproof.
@@sylvijawildflower you like them? Or is that a bad thing? I guess it means they should last longer.
Ever heard of boot wax or polish?
I got them waxed and polished once. But I'm not planning on wearing these shoes to dinner so I don't have the time or energy for that :)
the wax waterproofs and lubricates the leather, and needs to be reapplied everyweek or so of wet hiking, imo
They look pretty good for two years. Im considering them. Do you wax the shoes after cleaning ?
Hold on hold on....where did you get this model with different outsole?
Did you use these while carrying a pack? If so, how heavy and what type of terrain?

i have a pair of asolo powermatic for when i go hiking, they last over a decade according to the reviews.. they weigh twice as much as these though.
How is the thermal aspect? Good for snow?
Yeah what about very cold weather and snow?
I live in Washington and it is muddy and wet how good are these at keeping your feet dry?
lol. Some one didnt watch the whole review.
Shouldn’t you wax and condition them way more?
They aren't advertised as being waterproof - they come with a treatment to help proof the leather.

True. Their marketing materials and website say "Waterproof" so that's why I mentioned it :)

Fair enough. I do love this brand! I bought the updated pair of these shoes in black and love them as well :)
Make sure you look after the leather! PS: I didn't realise lots of other comments had pointed out what I had before me, sorry to repeat.
Mine leak after 2 days with three different of inpregnations
I destroyed a pair of vibram boot soles in a month of hiking off trails on dolomites.

@@tsikkitsikkiBANGBANG 2 years later: i Bought a pair myself. Never had water leaking in, though they need care, like all other boots
@@Suiram1 Thank you for your answer! Gotta make a tough decision which pair to buy.
So basically: a piece of shit. Thanks for the info, just avoided wasting a load of cash on these!

UA-cam Villain OK cool, thanks for the info. Do know what they've changed in the 2016 version that might account for the better quality?

Do they breathe well? My current boots have a plastic liner for waterproofing which is terrible for keeping the inside of the boot dry from sweat
