Mollies honestly seem to do better in saltwater. I have yet to lose one acclimating to salt. Not sure why they are controversial.

Wonder if there's a role for co2 dosing in macro algae tanks like fresh water aquarist do for high energy planted tanks

I used CO2 with a ph controller and kept the Ph at 7,8-8,0 the nutrient uptake nearly double and so does the grow.
For me with only big tanks, it gets to expensiv to redose all those nutrients
