It's been 6 years since I've first watched this video and I agree through and through. Probably one of the greatest performances on UA-cam for that matter and I still don't know why
Personally, I don't know much about David Bowie, except that he was a super cool guy who's most famous for his songs and all, so when I heard that he had passed away, I went back to this video and started to cry for no reason except that he seemed like an incredible and inspiring man.
Wag Kat.....as a 40 year fan I will say it's nice to see a younger generation interested in looking back, listening and the understanding why he's such a great talent. I'm sure since his death there are many who've become serious fans as I did when I first head him all those years ago. He is an artist I never grew tired or "grew out: of like some of the artists I've liked over the years. He had a maturity to his music that allowed you to grow with him. There is something for everyone which was one of his strong points and again a reason he has so many fans all over the world.
First of all, how can you thumbs down this video? Even if you are a fan of the original, I think Bowie himself would give Patrick a thumbs up. Second of all, my god Patricks voice and the guitar, what a perfect marriage. Very powerful. Love this video so much I have been watching it at least twice a day every day for the past two months and will continue to do so forever!! lol
Like, I am totally obsessed with Bowie (lol I'm 15) and I think it is very difficult to cover Bowie, but Patrick with his amazing voice did it fucking well! Bowie appreciates people covering his songs, just as long as they don't copy it. like probably all artists but anyway.
The times I have cried the hardest in my life are always when I hear Patrick singing. This is so so beautiful. I have replayed this 15 times. And obviously still crying.
I've been playing guitar for over a year now and this song is the hardest song I've ever tried to learn. Other FOB songs are pretty intense too. Him being able to sing like this while playing a song that has upwards of 20 chords is something that shouldn't be underestimated.
*circa 2002* Patrick Stump: So, can I be the band's drummer? Fall Out Boy: No, but you can sing. Patrick Stump: lol ok Patrick Stump: *inadvertently becomes greatest singer alive*
i still go back to this cover sometimes for comfort lol. i’m much older now and more mature than i was when i first obsessed over this, but it’s still so good
I was searching for Life on Mars covers and had a vague thought in my head: "oh I hope Patrick did one, he's got a good voice" and I'm literally so happy right now
If anyone says there's no good singers these days, show them this video. BBC radio got it bang on in the description, this is simply breathtaking. THIS is why I love Patrick's voice.
I've never been a huge fan of Fall out boy, but I've also never understood where ANY of the hate for them comes from(Their covers aren't always the best but at leased they've got decent taste). After watching this though: FUCK this guys got talent! Regardless if you love or hate their sound, you can't deny brilliance as musicians.
My god, the little hum vocalizing part at the end did me in. Ridiculously talented, don't care what anyone says. Damn. From Evening Out With Your Girlfriend to this... I'm slow 👏👏👏👏
This is the best Bowie cover I've heard yet. I was listening to "oh you pretty things" i then went to sleep. Something in my head woke me and my mum says you need to sit i have to tell you something,Bowie died i felt like she was telling me my gramps died i have cried almost every day, i don't care mock me but Bowie was what my mom listened to and she gave me the gift of him and i thank her for that. Thanks peace, love and Bowie forever!
Ya'll can like you're One Direction and 5 Seconds Of Summer, but this is what I love. This video makes me cry because I think Patrick has the most beautiful voice ever. He's so talented.
Came back to this after hearing about Bowie's death. Such a legend, Patrick has lost one of his idols along with millions of others. May you always rest in peace Bowie.
If you haven’t t already seen it check out Patrick’s vocals on ABC performing live Under pressure - Queen & David Bowie omg it’s mind blowing. He performs as both artists, honestly this man is just amazing 🤩🎤👌🏻
He is such an incredible singer!! I am a fall out boy fan and this is brilliant seen as before that I loved David Bowie and still do. Thank you radio 1 thank you Patrick stump
This video started it all. It changed my life completely. It introduced me to a colourful and confusing world and I am so happy that I found it. In a weird way this made me find the love of my life. Thank you.
It's so hard to wrap your head around the fact that no one will ever hear from or see David Bowie ever again. I'm watching this for the first time since he died because I couldn't watch it when I had just found out it was too hard and it still is. I'm not usually one to cry but this made me cry, a lot.
i've been coming back to this for many many years
Sammmeeeee!
probably one of his best vocals to date... dear god is this man even human?!
I don't know.... I don't think he is because his hand came off 3 times and he still has it. 😂
Personally I think he performs better than this in the Soul Punk era.
Though this is just a cover, I think it's one of Patricks best performances ever. So beautiful and moving
It's been 6 years since I've first watched this video and I agree through and through. Probably one of the greatest performances on UA-cam for that matter and I still don't know why
Every cover by him becomes my next favourite song by him ❤
And that is why Patrick is one of the vocalists of a generation. The power and pitch accuracy behind the high notes is immense. Total win!
is this the fall out boy?
"NO THIS IS PATRICK!"
:)
Lol
I was mid singing when this made me fucking snort
@@bones13iscool34 exACtly same
LMAO
No,i mean, it's Pete Wentz from My chemical romance
How did such a big voice come out of a tiny person like Patrick dear lord
I love Patrick's covers because he individualises them while retaining their original beauty and magic.
Personally, I don't know much about David Bowie, except that he was a super cool guy who's most famous for his songs and all, so when I heard that he had passed away, I went back to this video and started to cry for no reason except that he seemed like an incredible and inspiring man.
+Amira Syafiqah what a beautiful comment awe
Cool 👍
I didn't cry at first, and then I did research, and everytime I watch anything David Bowie related I want to cry. He was truly great person.

@@micahjermainegarcia2913 no I haven’t wow this was 5 years ago dam lol
this song is insanely hard to play on guitar, and this song is insanely hard to sing. Patrick did both while making it his own. God bless this man.
zoeyvlogsify piano's even harder. It's hard to get the sound, but that's how all of Hunky Dory is.
Agreed this is extremely simplified chords
Totally simplified way of playing it to be fair. Guitar part isn’t the greatest.
zoeyvlogsify absolutely.
zoeyvlogsify it is legitimately not hard to play this on guitar what so ever
tbh i feel like that 'Pete Wentz screaming in the distance' gif is totally relevant rn
Caro Nicole the gif of Pete falling
Caro Nicole as we ask her to focus on pETE WENTZ SCREAMING IN THE DISTANCE oh man
Those power notes steal my heart every time. Like that one at 2:47. It's gorgeous and my heart swoons at this man's talent and range.
Welcome back to the video 🙂 I’m pretty sure that was an accidental voice break that he just went with 😂 what a guy👌
best performance he's ever done. hands down.
hey I'm actually subscribed to you, awesome to see you in the comments!
+Brian R Cifuentes haha so did I lol

He has the voice of an angel and this performance clearly shows it.

it is Bowie's song, not theirs. just remember.
I know, but to be able to replicate it with such precision is something to be commended.
Chantal Assals From a musical standpoint, it is not Bowie's song. It was taken from a french pop song. They are Bowies lyrics however.
It is his song, the plagiarism has been denied.
...It's a song about plagiarism
i just come back to this year after year this is my favorite patrick stump cover!
That "Life on… Maaars!" simply nearly killed me.
I luv yaa
how is his voice even that beautiful??!?! like oh my god patricks voice is actually the best thing ive ever heard ever.

Patrick Stump: So, can I be the band's drummer?
Fall Out Boy: No, but you can sing.

big mood for all the good bands
Joe meets Patrick, and he's like, "Yo, I know about music"
And Patrick's like "Yo, i know more about music"
This comment may be true now since Bowie is dead now.
And patrick was on the drums for some fucking reason
Watching this after David Bowie died. Rest in peace.
As a FOB fan and a HUGE Bowie fan, I had no idea this existed. I cried a little.
He died after hearing this. "My life is complete now. Cease heart pump"
