Its kind of weird how dnb somehow managed to resurface after all of the hip hop rap and other hype, ngl been wanting to make some dnb stuff for a while with this i hope i can make at least some decent stuff. Love autocorrect btw :)
I always have a lot of fun making drum & bass and adjacent genres. Something about chopping up breakbeats in different ways is just super enjoyable to me. It’s also the genre that got me into electronic music as a whole, so it’s a pretty important genre to me.
my dad was a huge raver so he used to play drum and bass all the time in the car when i was a child (like 8 / 9 lmao) and i loved it, it was fast paced and intense, im glad someone else relates. the comparison between drum and bass’ violent and impulsive youth and breakcore’s sad and mellow youth was brilliant too, i’ve never really thought about it like that but wow music really does encapsulate the feelings throughout the decades perfectly
Praxi never fails to capture the best parts of a Genre. DNB has always been one of my favorite genres because of how chill it always felt. I would put this track on repeat if I could lol
I love how simple the production is on this compared to a lot of hip hop production. Not to downplay the intricacies of the genre, but just because so much presence is placed on the, well, yanno… DRUMS AND BASS you don’t have to worry so much about EQing different elements and trying to find creative ways to fit everything into the mix. For me, mixing is the most difficult element of producing, so I appreciate how much easier this looks to mix. Final product was great btw
I love how DNB is slowly making its way into mainstream media. For example, the song Depravity by Norman Sann is DNB+Trap and that's kinda what got me into the dystopian DNB scene.
as a huge dnb fan who's pals with a couple djs and watches them produce, this is wayyy better drums than i imagined an american who mostly produces other genres could make first time round, espescially without making it overproduced. well done mate
Hands down my favourite production channel on YT. Love the narrative, the beats always end up being amazing even tho sometimes I didn't even know the artist you were "imitating". And now that you touched a style that is probably obscure to a lot of people here, this shit hits the spot. Thanks for the videos man
thanks a lot, you helped me finished my first breakcore track. i'm pretty experienced in other genres and usually it took me some time to handle specific genre, i had to produce more tracks. but u explained the basics so good that already my first track sounds pretty solid
First thing I thought of when I heard the final beat was Burial. I'd only ever thought of his music in the context of Electronic and dubstep. This is the first i've heard of DNB. Thanks for introducing me to my new obsession.
Funnily enough, I prefer using Fruity Slicer to chop up breaks. It's just quicker and easier that way, though some people prefer using the playlist...and I don't blame 'em for wanting natural-sounding chops. I do appreciate this video, but I also know you're only shedding light on the top layer of the breakcore iceberg, like it's showcasing the more accessible stuff. Again, I do appreciate you showcasing some of the harder-edged side of DnB and stuff. Good job.
i used to use the slicer but just switched to the playlist a few months ago since it's faster imo. and it also doesn't have that weird silence inbetween drums unless you stretch it
@@iwannabeawitch Actually, I just rememebered. Since Fruity Slicer is the default sampler with beat slicer on top of it, I would increase the release on envelope. Something I could've done a long time ago since I learned that while trying to sample a melody with Fruity Slicer. Long story short, in a past track, I sampled a melody using Fruity Sampler. The only problem is that it clicks. So, what I've done is go to the envelope settings and then increase the attack and increase the release. Both attack and release are then made round so it's sounds more natural. In DnB breaks, I would just lengthen the release and go from there. I'm not sure if I'm making sense, but I hope this helps in chopping melodies at least.
I’ve literally been hearing dnb since I was born, my parents both like old school dnb and my dad is a music journalist so electronic music has played a big part in my growing up and now I love newer dnb like mefjus and Noisia
Interesting to see how you build this. It's different but still well structured with fitting patterns. Everything you learned from mixing trap also came across well here. Would be dope to see more other genres too
While I had heard various other artists from time to time (Freestylers coming to immediate memory), Project: Human by Dieselboy was the very first full album/mixtape I had ever bought and listened to all the way through. Just like with you and your first taste of dnb, I'd say that album made an impact on me for the rest of my life. It wasn't until last year I actually took a deep dive into the history of dnb and where it originate from. I'm not really a music history buff but I was absolutely fascinated and enjoyed onboarding the roots of the genre. Made me appreciate it 100x more. Definitely felt the real talk in this one.
The moment you started talking about how useful beatboxing is as a producer, I started thinking about the Timbaland masterclass - a nice nod and a very good tip :)
Hey, here's a personal tip for anyone reading this, tends to work better when it comes to splicing the drums for me. SliceX is REALLY good for getting just the kick, the snare, etc to use as if they were almost a normal drumset like FPC or something.
i am almost constantly beatboxing breakbeats in my head, its putting them in midi i have issue with. this video reassured alot of accidental healthy habits i had made while producing. thanks much bru.
Great video. Also want to share a tip that i use especially in making breackore tracks. To devirsify drum section and add some rolls with glitchy effect you can apply gross beat with your settings on drum sample and link it to randomized peak controller. Experimenting with this sometimes really leads to interesting results
I've loved DNB since I was a kid. It's funny that one of the first albums you heard was from Dieselboy, because it was the same for me. It was The 6ixth Session. My cousin's boyfriend gave me the CD and I was hooked.
Whyever UA-cam didn't showed me this banger earlier. I can just agree that DnB just hits different. This Track man ... I love every second of it. I'll tried it myself and getting a good sounding drumbreak in there is (at least for me) easier said than done, though you really nailed it. One question would it make sense for you to upload those finished songs to Spotify as well? I know you use Spotify for your personal stuff but your such a variety artist that I believe lots of people would love your tracks in their playlists (me included). If not I get that completely . Anyway keep up the awesome work fam.
This could be more Lit you slowly take your break drum then add risers white noise impact and buildup drum before your drop then you had to use a sub bass and a thick crispy Rease bass with white noise layer on your drop and if you added trap drums with Dnb pattern on your drop and And added a lower volume break drum on your drop you could make it like mainstream artists like Net Sky, calibre, nu; tone etc And watch Savids videos
didn't expect this but good video, I wouldn't put breakcore in the title since it can be misleading, at least in the part that matters the most for breakcore, the break sequencing , but everything else is interchangable with breakcore and dnb tho
the only thing i think that would make this better is just making it a lil faster and pitching up the amen chop like 150 cents but genuinely it sounds amazing
Hey praxi I’ve been subscribed since maybe 2018 or something around there and have watched your “how to” tutorials to help me with my own music interests. Being one of the people who walk you through making a song! I was wondering if you could do a “how to Mac j” or Bris? They’re super popular in the Sacramento scene and would be a nice change from most of the mainstream rap today!
eh, not exactly a good description of breakcore, as breakcore is meant to be the most aggressive style out there and most of it is just mislabeled ambient jungle, but apart from that, the tutorial is pretty great!

doesn’t have to be indian

damn what a versatile producer you are man, this is a lovely take on breakcore (the bitcrush on the reese is phenomenal!)

Man neuro dnb mixed with break core and hyperpop is such a good combo. Halcyon sound the label does it well u nailed the drum breaks as well
I just started a breakcore side project a few days ago and I’m dropping my first ep on the 28th! Thanks praxi

hey hey I heard that Tekken sound track you snuck in there! Infinite azure :) Tekken OSTs are often diving into that drum and bass soundscape.
This helped so much. I’ve never made DnB before, but with this tutorial I made an absolute banger!
Yes finally!
Been waiting for you to do breakcore/dnb
I was today year's old when I realized that praxi has been using the newer version of fl for a while now lol.
I was hesitant at first, but the newer version of FL is pretty nice lol

Drum and bass is my 2nd favourite genre after hip hop so really cool to see your take on it
happy to see you grow and explore other genre's. you the real one since day one.
This sounds like Intelligent DnB, championed by LTJ Bukem et al back in the 90s. Hardly a new rake but great to hear it come back.
Great job.
