- Опубліковано 14 жов 2024
- I have had a few questions on how much soldiers get paid in basic training so thought I would do a video to answer all the questions.
I discuss initial pay, when you get a pay rise and also how much food costs.
If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thank you so much for this information, helps get expenses planned out before and during basic training. Much appreciated
No probs mate. You are welcome
Slave pay @@MilitaryFitness
When I joined in 77, in basic training we were given £10 per week to spend in cash. The other £10 or so was put in a bank account. That changed after basic training.
Crazy. I started on £50 a week 🙈
I don’t know if the RAF paid its recruits in basic training so much more or if between ‘77 and ‘79, when I joined up, there was a large pay increase but I was on £50 a week during my basic/trade training.
Joined in 1977 to 94 out as SSGT. Pleased to see the wages are ok. Promotion/ trade ! Thats the incentive for sure
Great information to prepare new recruits as always. Must say though, subsidies such as reduced living costs compared to civilian life can add a solid chunk to perceived income. I'm not speaking from any authority here, but saving an equivalent of £600 a month on rent versus married quarters, works out to £7200 a year takehome, which off the back of a £20400 salary = an effective civilian salary of £31000 a year (once you factor in the tax you'd pay on the salary to receive the take home difference)
Yeah, the extra subsidies that you get certainly increase the value of your pay
Accommodations is such a beautiful thing
Great video, very informative 👍
Thanks for the kind comment mate👍🏻👍🏻
Hi Sam! Great video again. Do you get pay rises as you rank up, Lance cpl, cpl ect...??
You might remember me from your live stream a few night ago. I got my medical appeal back which is still a fail unfortunately so I will have to re-apply next may. They even considered a 4 year defferal period and a permanent medical fail on my record so I can't re-apply. So I guess I am very lucky! All this because of past history with asthma. Now I understand why the British army is so small
Hi mate (Ben, if I remember correctly). You do get pay rises when you promote. Sorry to hear about your medical appeal but all is not lost and at least you can reapply next year.
@@MilitaryFitness I'll be applying again. Going to be keeping up my fitness too so I can be as fit as possible for my assessment next year 🙂
Wow thanks Sam, you just answered a question I thought of asking, Well explained👌, but how about accommodation living in camp alone? How does it work?
You will live in the block with other guys. Usually a 6-10 man room during training and then will get your own room once you are in a working unit
@@MilitaryFitness that's nice, thanks
Hello Sam. I love your videos. You seem like a great laid back guy even as your arch nemesis because I’m an independent American soldier free of Great Britain. Bro. The American war of independence ended 239 years ago. With all do respect get over it. It happened a long time ago. Surely we can be friends now and forget the past. Thank you for your service as a matter of fact because I haven’t had to be ordered to fight a revenge plot by the British army to regain America as part of your union as it originally was.
WTF are you talking about. Your having a conversation with yourself.😂😂😂
No. I speak the truth. Don’t you know about the American war of independence agaisnt great britian ? You know with George Washington?

Thank you Sam. Hey Sam do you know if the additional airborne or jump pay for The Paras which is around 180pounds is taxed?
It will be, yeah
@@MilitaryFitness oh okay thank you sweet Sam
@@SydneyGayleJr8 no probs
@@SydneyGayleJr8 you are aware you don’t have to log it or nothing tax automatically goes out
@MilitaryFitness don't recruits get a lump some for passing training
Thats a great advert for not joining. Should have used some Lego stormtroopers to make it a little more interesting.
Hello! Sam, l have a question for you is it possible to get a UK host to a Commonwealth Civilian who has been called to join RN recruitment and do a RN assessment test. I will appreciate your response soon. Thank you
I am not entirely sure, you will have to email the RN for an answer buddy
I’m talking about one person recording new military how much Salary government paid 😊
Depends how the clerks are feeling at the end of the month.
😂😂
Unless basic training has changed to office hours, that £43 per day can easily be for at least a 12 hour day. Or £3 and change per hour.
And the MoD has the cheek to charge their least paid people in uniform for food and accommodation? That's a disgrace.
If the MoD was grabbed by its balls and run like a private company, they wouldn't waste billions annually and could easily afford to pay for
everything during training.
Hi buddy. I do understand what you mean but basic is just a springboard to much better wages once they are trained.
It's starter pay,the military is a bottom fed organisation where you're expected to get promoted hence why the pay increases with a non-contributary pension included. It's a very competitive salary when you compare it for pay v time in other uniformed services or nhs.
Try comparing the military with a private company and you might find the latter are rarely as efficient as you assume. No doubt there are some neoliberal crazies who would want the armed forces privatised, but that, like most privatised public services, would be a failure and in the case of the armed forces, lead to a national disaster.
Our servicemen and women should be properly paid, equipped, trained and housed.
Surely the basic pay has to be more than that? That’s less than minimum wage…
It is less than minimum wage but as it’s training I guess it’s not classed as work
@@MilitaryFitness if I’m right you’ll only be on this rate while on phase 1 and 2, then when passed out you’ll go to private pay?
@@peterbigo9951 after 26 weeks your pay goes up
@@MilitaryFitness are they still doing the team building exercises is the assessment centre? I no there doing beep test but what about the team exercises?

Please when will he army be accepting application from commonwealth citizens
I think it’s going to be April time mate
Okay thanks 🙏🏾
Been waiting for this...hope all shall be well soon
Please I am from a commonwealth country. I completed the army corgnitive test, and I submitted my police report as well, so please how long will it take to get my assessment invite? Thank you
May I ask once phase one is complete does pay change depending on role so as a cmt do you get payed more or would you Evan get paid more as a cmt once training has been completed
Your pay increases after 6 months of training. It can depend on role trade once you have completed phase 2
@@MilitaryFitness ok thank you
How many years can you serve as a soldier in the military
There’s a chance you can go to 30 years and possibly beyond
Hello what is the food like in UK army training please. I do not like certain things.
It’s not too bad. You will be so hungry in training you will eat anything
i know its a bit late, but, im going to harrogate in september for the short course, does the pay go up by age or does it stay the same for the whole 23 weeks, baring in mind i turn 17 and 5 months 4 days after my start date.
The pay is time based not age based
When will army be accepting application from commonwealth citizens sir
It’s whenever they need to recruit. The wait time can be quite long
Please can I apply for royal Marianne forms in January 2023 please let me know if I can do that
You will have to apply online buddy
With spelling like that, you can certainly apply to the bootnecks.😂😂
So why don't you keep it original then keep the basic training when your organisation slowing so when you pass your basic training do you still continue on paying for your food changing the system with the system needs to change so after when you completed your basic training and you go on something after you store continue money branching out of the payment to the food anybody put in a request by the change the army public policy
It turned out to be cheaper to privatise the food within the military. Thanks very much for the comment.
Thank you
No probs mate
Is the army a good career money wise? I’m thinking of joining the reme as a vehicle mechanic, However I do have the option to become an apprentice electrician. Just wondering if it’s worth it
Sparks are in good money in civvy street for sure. What I will say is that the money isn’t great to begin with but it does get much much better
Overall, it is a good career and the training you receive will stand you in good stead in your future life.
@@johnwright9372 all depends on what he wants to do. I work with a lot of ex military they tell me to avoid unless it's learning a trade he was an ex tankie.
Is it still just the beep test at the ac
It is mate
It’s now almost 19 grand on entry
What happens if you have a mortgage etc. When you join?
That’s no problem, but if you are initially going to take a pay cut, make sure you save up a bit first
@@MilitaryFitness I would be getting half my normal pay, so would be right but not impossible. It’s one thing that put me off above all else.
@@peterbigo9951 tbh, it probably is one of the biggest factors if you already have financial commitments

Do the paras get more pay?
They get jumps pay when they qualify.

Yeah, I think it is around 180 pounds per month.
Dose this include infantry?
Yeah

Maybe a stupid question… do you have to shave your hair at training?
Nah, it just has to be neat and tidy, no highlights etc.
@@MilitaryFitness what if you have a Beard and side locks ( jews ) or a Beard and long Hair in a bun ( Sikhs ) or a beard and dread locks ( Rastafarian ) …….is this allowed now for recruits ?
Can I get money if I join ?
You could do
Does any join at 33?
I find generally they are rejoiners at that age but 33 is still pretty young at this moment in time so I would imagine quite a few do.
Cut off point is 35 so I'd make it quick. It's up to you but I once did selection at age 20, loads were younger than me even at that age.
Thank you so much what is your name your contract no
Awful pay I know people who are getting more sat at home claiming to be disabled
