The man has a great voice. He can manipulate his gift to make you feel the emotion any emotion he wishes. The man could be a leader in fashion or trends but that voice covers all genres that he makes his own.
I am in a state of flux. It's like picking your favorite child. I have never seen this colab before and am super impressed. Bowie never ceases to amaze. However, I have now seen three amazing performances of this song. Each different, each amazing. So here goes, rank the three. I have to say: 1. Has to go to Trent Reznor and the Nine Inch Nails. Just due to the fact this was the live version I saw first. I remember being moved almost to tears when I first saw Reznor sing these lyrics with such a powerful backing band. I just can't move past this. 2. I have to give this to Bowie and the Nails simply because the mood was even darker than the original and it was also a live performance. In my humble opinion, I always think live performances are the best way to showcase an artist and Bowie and the Nails were all over this performance. 3. Goes to the Cash cover of Hurt. No word of a lie, this is the version that moves me most emotionally out of the three, but it's a film clip so God knows how many takes it took to shoot it, or how much post-production it took to clean up the lyrics and instrumentals. What a way to finish Bowie week. Thanks to both of you for putting this on and to soozarty for curating the week. An outstanding selection of performances.
Such a brilliant rendition of the song. Its definitely grander, and more agressive than either the album version or Cash's cover, but it fascinatingly breathes a new lofe into this song. It feels less like a credits roll song after a suicide, and more like a revelation after an attempt.
The whole week for me has been a real eye opener. As a kid , friends would say " you gotta listen to this or that" and I never did. So later in life it is great to listen with an open mind and just bathe in the glory that is David Bowie. Kate Bush week sounds great. She is currently Running up the charts ( see what i did there ) thanks to Stranger Things. Thank you Suzarty? for a great week. I have never done a gofund thing , so , time to put that right.
I became a huge fan of Grunge in the 90's, so NIN were up there for me and this was such a buzz, Bowie that I'd loved forever, with something new that I loved, brilliant. Trent Reznor has had so many great collaborations, he's got to be chuffed with himself, he got to work with so many of his idols. Gary Numan (you really have to go there sometime too. Godfather of synth pop) and NIN have worked together a lot. Anyway, another top tier reaction and I'm going over to the gofundme to give a little help for Suzi.
At this point of the segue, primarily, the band was mostly Bowie's band - the rest of the Nails were off stage. I saw this live in Chicago - one of the all-time best concerts. Btw - the whole segue is comprised of 5-6 songs. Amazing!
As much as i love anything and everything that Bowie does ..Please check out Johhny Cashes version of this prior to his death..So powerful. Nine inch nails ,said ..its no longer there song .its Johnny's .
Any modern live music should be celebrated... but I cannot fathom the young generation and their love of supposed music festivals performed by DJ's who actually make no music at all. But with the drugs available at such I truly don't think that the music itself counts for much!
New Song from muse con me out "Will of the people" pls react to that🤞☺️🔥🔥🔥 Btw i fall in love With Bowie when i was a child looking him in the movie labirinto❤️
Just watched again....Both exceptional talented vocalists
It is an amazing version
Wow. I like the smile on Trents face when Bowie joins him to harmonize with him. Just pure joy. Huge smiles on his face.
Thanks for the message, take care and more soon. Cheers G&A
How in the name of hell have I never seen this before?. There voices are so perfect together. ps. Sosatie is an Afrikaans word for kebab.
Such a powerful song and Bowie's blend with Reznor's voice was so damned impactful
Agreed. Thanks for being here and more soon!
That was indeed dark. Great week guys
