I love this movie. My friend and I went into the theatre not knowing much and spent the last 30 minutes of the movie crying laughing. Demi Moore gave such an amazing performance.
Coralie Fargeat (who turned 48 in November, by the way) made a movie in 2017 called Revenge. Having seen that movie, I very much expected that this one would be intense, gruesome, stylistic, light on plot, and with little interest subtlety, though this had a little more pure batshittery. Revenge could be a good movie for a reaction as well. It is only 108 minutes, in any case. I gather that Ray Liotta was going to play Harvey, but...well...that didn't happen. And Dennis Quaid was a last-minute replacement.
2/5 for me. I’m a big horror fan, so this being called a body horror piqued my interest. First off, the positives. Demi Moore was great. But she wasn’t in the second half of the movie much. The body horror was also good. It felt outlandish next to the world that they lived in, even though cosmetic manipulation is rampant in that industry. Okay, now to the bad. Ironically, there isn’t a lot of substance to the story or characters. The movie relies on sexual imagery for 50 percent of the movie. And that young actress doesn’t really get a huge opportunity to shine outside of just being eye candy. Her fight scene at the end with Demi was poorly paced and doesn’t make any sense. It felt very much like a girl fight. Which made it seem kinda silly. Also, why would she go to the award show knowing how she looks? That shows no reasoning. And so you realize that you really don’t know Sue well. The talk show segment showed off her arrogance, which was hot but made her unlikeable. And that talk show segment felt low budget as heck. The actor was not good. A lot of the side characters actually felt extra, which might have been more interesting if the world they lived in was interesting. Like the old friend of Demi’s and the boss/producer guy. They felt like outlandish caricatures to depict two sides of very pathetic men. The message or themes were lost because the characters were unlikable, the lore behind the substance medicine was half assed, and the connection between the main characters was convoluted. They were one entity. And apparently sue was an optimal version of Demi. So no her younger self. But if they didn’t share a memory of how the other lived in their respective weeks, why did Demi care to keep doing it? She didn’t receive any benefits. The message of women being valued for physical appearance and discarded once they age is also garbage. Demi was still pretty. She just wasn’t a top draw celebrity anymore so had a pity party. Boo hoo. Welcome to how 99 percent of men and a smaller percentage of women live. Most of us don’t get compliments and attention everyday. So even though Demi acted well, her character still sucked and felt one dimensional. People who love victim culture mixed with influencer culture will love this movie. But it’s pretty vacuous if you aren’t a hot girl. It’s hot girl problems mixed with body horror. Even the ending with all the blood felt empty because it was literally the mob of villagers attacking a monster trope. There was a weird delay in their reaction and then everyone lost control in a cartoonish way.
I dont agree with a lot of this comment, but I do agree that a lot of this shows imagery conflicts with what its themes are trying to portray. It's trying to have its cake and eat it too.
41:29 😭 "I'm not built to watch this"
I think you set a record for the number of "JESUS" in one reaction. This was great.

This was without a doubt my movie of the year. Was absolutely incredible in my opinion.
the director coralie fargeat's first film Revenge (2017) is one hell of a trip as well.

I love the way this movie is shot. Its a great story premise and the actors are fantastic. The ending however, ruins the whole movie. Terrible.
Awesome ❤❤
Yay I love you !
More conservative Americans that can't seem to cope with something vaguely edgy.
Crazy calling this movie "vaguely edgy" This is even edgy for french horror...and this is coming from someone who has seen Martyrs.

It’s supposed to be campy……
That's a lot of words just to say you have low media literacy. Slink away back to your hole, obvious incel.
