      The sound was fine. Get your bone density test as soon as you can. I did at 60 and I have osteopenia in my hips. I take a pill once a month. My next scan is in a couple months.
      I'm a Mimi too!! I play golf with one grandkid and do cartwheels with another. I carried my 2 yr. old G-daughter on my shoulders for a fireworks night at Disney.
      Do all the things. You don't want to be the grandma that just sits on the couch. Good luck and have fun!!

    I’m 63 and retired in Oct. I use to work 10 hours day sitting in front of a computer. Years of doing this were not good for my health. Terribly out of shape and gained weight as well as diagnosed with fibro. I weaned myself off my RX and am slowly regaining my life and working on improving my health. I started keto in April and have been working out 3-4 times per week. I’m keeping track of what I eat daily and weight and measurements. I want to enjoy my retirement(one of my many whys!) Love your channel!

    Mary Ellen, thank you for your honesty about getting back to your fitness goals. I’m 54 and was doing well until 2 years ago. I had several people pass away and grief took over. I appreciate the reminder that it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. I’m aiming for one day at a time.

    I watched a video this morning. I think she was flourished hope. Something like that. Her video was about journaling. What I really got out of her video… the pebble effect. Throwing a pebble in water and how it has the ripple effect. Meaning. Any action is going to make movement. Ex. Put steps in for a few days and then didn’t one day.. putting the action in again will have the ripple effect again no matter what… Her process or journaling prompts move her forward. The things we want in life turn into your goals To achieve those goals we take action and those actions turn into our routines or habits and that’s where the TRANSFORMATION starts. Toss your pebble and make those ripples ladies…

    I was on a health journey for 3 years and was doing very well. Had lost weight and gained muscle. My chronic back/sciatic nerve pain was gone since cold laser treatments. I was feeling fabulous. Then, last fall I found out that I had pancreatic cancer. I've been in and out of the hospital since last November. 3 surgeries- one was an emergency. The other 2 planned. Cancer has been removed and I'm home recovering. I've lost a significant amount of weight due to chemo and surgeries. I've also lost muscle mass. I'm a little older than you and have many of your same concerns. Thank you for sharing your wellness book (love the cover). I got some great ideas for my own rebuilding of my body.❤😊

    I love this ME. Im inspired. I work 10 -12 hours a day, sitting at a desk the entire time. I so need to make physical activity a part of my day for all the reasons you mentioned. Between the work hours and the stress of my job, I feel 20 years older than my 45. I too am one to set big goals with 100% belief I will do them and then....life gets in the way and I make excuses. You've inspired me to try again!

    So, I'm sitting here watching your video at 1 am. And it's like you are reading my own thoughts. I am 65, retired, and have not prioritized my health for the past couple of years due to a lot of personal losses. You have really motivated me to put a health plan in writing. And follow through! Why? It's kinda now or never. Thanks, Mary Ellen. Wishing you the best.

    Hi Mary Ellen, good health as we grow older is so important. I'm 70 and medication-free, and can still do push-ups. #1: eat clean. #2: stay physically active. #3: hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. #4: get your zzzz's.
    Read ingredient labels on everything, even vitamins. I was shocked to read that sugars are added to some tablet-type vitamins, and even packaged veggie and chicken broth. So many ailments are the results of eating foods that cause inflammation throughout out bodies, from joint & muscles, internal organs, skin, mental agility and our overall energy levels.
    Do your research. Talk with your PCP about your goals. Keep a food log. Some health insurances offer an on-line exercise & food log that has all the nutritional information and calorie needs/calories burned to help you stay on-track.
    ... and find that sticker in the "Happy Goals" sticker book that says "PERSISTENCE NOT PERFECTION ", and remember to give yourself grace.
    Thank you for all you do. G.

    My motivation is to be healthy and present for my kids. I have been on a journey, down 40 lbs with improved blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure, and triglycerides. I am a perfectionist so I would always give up after a cheat meal or whatever. Now, I just work my faves into my week within the parameters of my dietician's advice, usually with 1 treat snack/meal a week. I allow that girls' night margaritas and fajitas. I just might have a ranch water instead of a margarita or not use the tortillas with my fajitas, all within balance and realistic goals. That is what I loved about meeting with the dietician. She wanted me to be realistic and not extreme everything. Sustainable, doable changes. I HAVE to prep protein; hard boiled eggs, rotisserie chicken, make an extra burger for the next day, individual packets of nuts, etc.

    I'm 57 I walk over 10,000 steps day everyday and I also just started weight training 3 days a week. I'm also on weight watchers. I decided to get healthy now because if I don't do it now then when. I also have fibromyalgia and arthritis so there are days I don't want to do anything because of all the pain I'm in but I do what I have to do for my health. Good luck on your journey.

    I am 58 and exactly the same way..all or nothing. I used to wait for a Monday to start my latest “diet”. Now I am working on relearning things that have a negative connotation to it for me like exercise I changed to physical movement and diet I changed to good nutrition or healthy eating. Drinking more water is now called hydrating. Whatever works right?! lol. Love this video and I am definitely going to follow in your footsteps. ❤

      just add in one thing at a time until it becomes a habit, then add in another. I have been successfully adding in things for months. I started with supplements. Then Weight Watchers. Then walking daily. Prioritizing sleep. Now the gym and protein. It's a long process, try not to take on too much at once

Thankfully, my job I work outside, so I am moving around a bunch but I’m still not strengthening. I really want to give Pilates a shot because I feel like it could be beneficial with toning and also stretching/lengthening my muscles to help with pain.

    Lets to it together! I started a challenge for myself. On July 10th (a wednesday) I decided to not drink my calories anymore. No tea, soda, milkshakes, smoothies, coffees, juices...nothing. I have a goal of getting to 59 days. Why 59? Because 60 felt impossible. So i'm taking it one day at a time. If i still feel like having spaghetti that night awesome. If i just have a chicken salad and feel full. Awesome! I just want to do one thing, one thing for me. That way i don't feel overwhelmed or deprived. Then my goal will change maybe the no liquid calories will become a habit and i can add, no baked carbs. or maybe i will feel better and I can start adding in walks around the park. Doesn't really matter because right now, all i am focused on is my one goal. I know each person has their own struggles but i think it always makes it better when you have people that you know are going through similar things. You have a community that you can count on. You got this.

    This was the MOST honest, sweetest video I’ve ever seen. I did not know you had children. Congrats on your soon to be new title-Mimi- in Nov.
    I do workout. For the life of me I can’t stay consistent. I LOVE working out I just have a lot of responsibility. When I get the workout done at 5am it’s an amazing feeling. When I try and squeeze it in after that time it usually doesn’t happen bc things are important or more often, I make excuses. I lift weights, walk, run and do hot yoga at Hotworx. I’d have great mental health and I’m sure an amazing physique if I could just stick with my regime. I do let work-I teach, household chores and children’s activities dictate my health choices and I would like to get away from that. Like with everything, if I learn to be consistent I’d be good.
    I honestly don’t know my ‘why’ which is probably why I’m not consistent. I do want to desperately lose 20-25 lbs though.

    To reach your push-up goal, especially with shoulder bursitis, talk to your trainer about working through successive approximations. If your goal is full body push up on your toes, start with wall pushups with feet 6 inches from wall, when that is easy, move feet out 12 inches from the wall, when that is no longer a challenge, try pushups where you place hands on your dining table or foot board and do push up, when that is no longer challenging, use a slightly lower surface like the front of your couch or a low bench, then knee push-ups, then move on to traditional push-ups. Gradually increasing the difficulty allows your body time to build strength and can also help you break through plateaus. This can be used for any exercise, really. Just focus on going slowly, using controlled movements and learning good form.

  • @plan4life
    @plan4life Місяць тому

    Dont worry about protein or vegetables. Just focus on eliminating carbs. Ie little to no bread, pasta or rice. Our bodies don’t need carbs. When you eliminate carbs you automatically add more of the good stuff (ie proteins and veggies/fruit). And cut down on sweet drinks and snacks and processed food in order to eliminate any cravings. As far as exercise is concerned, find exercises you enjoy; eg dancing, walking, cardio, or anything that doesn’t seem like a chore. But it’s better to find several short fitness moments in the day like a bit of housework, carrying a couple of bags of shopping, a short walk around the block, running up a set of stairs, even simple stretching, than doing an hour a day dedicated exercise. Work towards an active lifestyle. I personally have been trying to lose weight, that is my why. After years of different diets and exercise I just do these simple things now and I have lost 15kg in 6 months so far! But more to the point I am more focused now, have way more energy and consistently during the day, and I have tons more motivation.

      Glad it’s working for you! Everyone is different with different goals. I have good trainers who are guiding me in the right direction and have also done extensive research. I know you mean well but I don’t need advice, I know I’m on the right track doing what I’m doing. 😊

      @@PlanningwithBumbleGood for you! Other people might appreciate the advice though. As you say, we are all different, this is simply what changed MY life and enabled ME to find pleasure and desire in exercising and enabled ME to lose weight after struggling for years. A lot of the advice out there is outdated and tells you that you should be eating this and that, but often never focuses on what you should be eliminating. And if exercise is a chore then one is doing something wrong.

    Oh my gosh. I needed this videos. Awesome ideas. Thank you for sharing with us. I am 54. Blood works shows my cholesterol is high. My hematocrit is high. I sit most of the day. I keep children in my home. Plus I take care of my mother in law, who has Alzhemiers. HORRIBLE watching her decline. I am going through Menopause. The brain fog and NO energy is HORRIBLE. Do you have any advice on helping with Menopause??

      It’s so hard, especially in your situation. Regarding menopause, I’m on HRT, have been since 2022, although I’m not sure if dose is high enough. I’m getting hormone tests done soon to find out. If that’s not an option I know there are supplements that have been known to help. You could look at the Bonafide website

    Mary Ellen, love your new fitness planner and goals. Just joined the gym myself and yep same goal - get more muscle. If you haven't already check out Dr Marie Claire Haver and her book "the new menopause" and Dr Vonda Wright. Both talk about the importance of strength training in menopause. But also you're shoulder bursitis could be from menopause!!! I had frozen shoulder and just chalked it up to age, but wouldn't you know it can be a menopause symptom!!! YES YES YES to being strong old ladies!!!!

      Ugh menopause ruins everything!! They never told us these things, there’s so many things no one talks about. I should do a whole video on it to educate lol

    Talking about trying to break perfectionism, I used to have impeccable handwriting that I was very proud of. Now I have minor tremor that means that my handwriting is all over the place. It’s a weird thing to be so bothered by, but I’m trying to break the tendency to start everything over each time.

    • @PlanningwithBumble
      @PlanningwithBumble  2 місяці тому

      Not a weird thing. My handwriting has gotten worse over the years (I do realize it’s still good but it used to be so perfect so it’s noticeable to me) due to grip strength probably. Bugs me too, so if it was a lot worse it would really annoy me

    (Also have chronic illnesses, so that doesn’t help either! Good for you! I believe you can and will do it/ stick to it!!! ❤❤❤
    Maybe this will motivate me to get started as well! … but then again, Netflix is calling my name rn. 😂
    (I too am trying to get out of the habit of well if I lost momentum I have to wait until the next month to start over! It’s such a hard habit to break)
