    I struggle with not being "good enough" or progressing "fast enough." I am making progress with my anxiety by understanding that I am safe and supported when I perform. My teacher helped me realize listeners want me to be successful, not waiting for me to make mistakes. I am going to play a very simple hymn (but still challenging to me) at church in a couple weeks, knowing they are my friends and don't mind my beginner status. Thank you so much for this supportive video! Love all I've watched so far! ❤

      Sounds like you are on the right track, Lynn! Well done for stepping outside your comfort zone. I’m sure they’ll appreciate your performance, especially since it comes from a place of vulnerability and a giving heart ❤️

    My son made me so proud he was asked by his teacher who was his hero and inspiration. He said my mum she's learning to play the harp. He said she is persistant. It made me feel amazing I just hope I can be good and be the hero and inspiration he needs xx

      That’s an amazing story, Carly! Persistent is a HUGE compliment. It’s really difficult to keep going when you’re learning an instrument as an adult - it takes a lot of courage and humility and and strength. Keep at it, you’re an amazing example! ❤️

      Thanks Tiffany! Awesome... practice technique video is on its way! 😃 Thanks for the comment on the new background, we put a lot of thought into it, but ended up getting feedback that it looks really busy, oh dear! But I’m glad you like it too ☺️

    Joy, sharing and connecting. From my experience, it's important to keep your composure when you make a mistake. Composure and rhythm. When people come for the joy of listening to you playing they will hear music not your mistakes, even if you make some. I'm not a harpist but these things are quite universal.

      That’s so true, Jiri. Thank-you for sharing! Yes these things apply no matter which instrument you play 😊 Good to hear from you again!

    I agree with everything in your video. A few weeks is enough for most people to play a simple song for their friends and family, and that's the best way to start performing. This came at a good time for me as well, because today I'm performing with a bunch of musicians who are much more advanced than me and I wasn't feeling "good enough." We're playing a simple song, and I'm comfortable with the music, but I was still feeling inadequate. Thanks for the reminder that it's all about bringing joy to the audience!

      Christy-Lyn's music We (10 college string players and me) played a couple songs for the campers at our string camp today, and it went very well. (That is the plus side to playing with people that are better than you are- it's almost guaranteed to go well.) The kids seemed to really enjoy it. My favorite part was how someone started playing the cello part to Pachebel's Canon and the rest of us just joined in and played the whole song spontaneously!

    ALOHA, Dear Christy-Lyn!!!! As is usual, I am very glad to see another of your videos!!!! I shall share another interesting fact about myself!!!! I do not know if you play any of Chopin's music, but, as for myself, the name Chopin always reminds me of another name I have seen-Schuppanzigh!!!! It is always so!!!!

    Joy for sure. I’ve been playing since 1974 and over the years stage freight totally took over . But now I’m going to try and get over it so I can share the joy. Thank you for the great tips. Do you need a computer to be part of your circle?

    Thank you for your tips, I am finding your videos really helpful. One issue I have found as a beginner/early intermediate is that the pieces I have learnt are so short, when it comes to performing I have finished my selection of songs so quickly and people expect more. Sometimes I repeat the music in a higher or lower octave to pad it out a bit. I guess the other option is to add your own improvisation to it?! Do you have any tips please?

    • @LearningtheHarp
      @LearningtheHarp  4 роки тому +1

      Oh yes, I know how that feels! Many of my students have that problem and we do a lot of experimenting to see how we can bulk out the piece. I think I mentioned some ideas in my video “Try this to make your harp playing more joyful”. Hope that helps! 😃

    • @LearningtheHarp
      @LearningtheHarp  4 роки тому +1

      I just re-watched the video, and it’s not that helpful for you. I need to make a video about this! Try playing the notes in a phrase in a different order, for example if the notes go up, try playing the same notes but going from the top down instead. You can also try repeating smaller sections within the piece an octave higher or with the notes in a different order. And you could try playing the piece over again with different lever settings - you could play it later on in your performance, and people won’t recognize it as something you already played 😆

      @@LearningtheHarp Oh thank you for those tips!! I will have fun experimenting with them. Yes a video might be useful on this subject anyway as I am sure others would find it of interest too. Thank you :)
