I'm a Spanish voice-over talent. I bought this mic a couple of months ago and I am happy to say it is my mic of choice. Having tested several microphones in this price range, I can say you'll be pleasantly surprised. Sennheiser has a winner with the MK 4.
I love my MK4. I have a Shure SM7B, Heil PR 40, AT2035 and a MXL BCC-1 and this one is the best in my humble opinion. I agree with you that the bag should be a hard case. I don't find the pops to be much of a problem as I just put a large foam windscreen on this mic and it did the trick.
As noted by Fred Pilcher below, proximity effect is not related to directionality. The mic has cardioid (heart shaped) directionality (though, like other condensers, it appears to pick up a lot more in various directions than a typical dynamic cardioid mic). Proximity effect refers to a mic's tendency to get bassier or boomier as it gets close to the sound source.
This mic has a lot of presence without being harsh. It´s hard to describe but it always sounds pretty "fast" and direct. Actually I don´t know any other mic that sounds similar. And by the way it´s really cheap for a LDC and that´s why they didn´t add any switches to it as well as a sturdy case. But it only cost 300 bucks and you can´t find a better mic within this range. The only thing that bugs me is the bad design. It really isn´t a beauty.
Wow, more affordable than I expected while listening to the vocal quality in this video. Not exactly cheap, but the quality to prove ratio is still very good. Would have to hear how well it picks up guitar too before buying but definitely will consider this mic when I am looking to upgrade. Thanks for the review!
G'day Tomas, mate I am just starting out on my UA-cam adventure and loving what you are all about. I have just subbed & a big thumbs up man. I have just purchased a good secondhand iMac 27"core i7, 3.4mghz, 3TB hard-drive & 16GB Ram + Final Cut Pro X, a Mavic Pro Drone 7 my Iphone 7+ with the Filmic Pro app. So I am slowly adding to my kit. I will be checking this mic out man and I will shop through your link if I go with this great mic. I support you man. Cheers Spike (Western Australia)
nurı genc Sennheiser makes a MK4 model that is USB and more suited to podcasting. I have not podcasted with this model, only recorded and sang live. I think it is amazing.
Can you please tell me more about the external power source you need for the microphone? It seems like you just plugged it into your PC without any other wires?
You need an "Audio Interface" which will have the "Phantom Power/48volts, 48v" that you will need to power the mic. The mic plugs into the "Audio Interface" like the Focusrite 2i2 with an XLR cable and then the Audio Interface plugs into the computer with a USB cable. Also, the other end of the XLR cable goes directly into the mic. The purpose of the Audio Interface is to power the mic/amplify the mic signal with 48v and ALSO to convert the mic signal into a "digital" language that the computer/recording software (such as Logic Pro X) will understand. The mic is considered an "Analog" signal (because you are producing it outside of your computer) and the Audio Interface converts it to a "digital" signal for the computer/DAW (recording software) so that the computer can understand it. Hope that makes sense.
Is thjs compatible to IOS? I have this macbook air. I was just wondering if how to connect this cable wire to macbook? I am planning to get this microphone online. Hope to hear some response. Thanks
I‘ve got this microphone for a few months now, but as I didn‘t use it so far, i should have been waiting for the MK 4 digital ... What‘s your opinion about that digital version of this microphone?
this mic is good for speech but if u getting it for vocals than it works more than crap , you need to have good mixong knowledge to mix ur vocals & as i compared it to my cheap condenser mic samson c01 xlr , there is negligible difference in the vocals when mixed through c01 nd mk4 , but this is good for speech
Good microphone, use it all the time.Poor audio on this video. You don't even fix the plosives in your audio, which makes me skeptical of the value of this review.
Hmmm, I wonder how else I was to showcase the sound of this mic and give information on it? I'll be sure to check out your review. Oh wait, you didn't make a video 😒

You should place a warning label on your video... You blew my ear drums out with those plosives.
The sound isn't as... PPPPPPPPP ROMINENT

Damn that mic sounds good! Really impressed! Great review Tomas!

True it's not the same, but it _is_ related to directionality: omnis don't have proximity effect.
Very impressive video and microphone!
+Canoopsy appreciate you stopping by my friend.

I'm like, I don't care, I'm getting it!
Putting this mic on my list to add to the mic locker. Thanks Tomas.
dang man your the audio king bro sounds crisp. Love how in depth you go on these knowledge shines through 🔥🔥

+Tony “Stark” Tran definitely one you should consider, it's a great value for the money IMO.
I was scared to buy it but got a great deal on an open box unit and WOW...the sound is just wow!
does it pick up a lot of background noise? and do you record in a room with noise reduction equiptment like sound absorbers?
@@sonam-xz9if I use it anywhere but as a condenser it's sensitive. I turn the fridge off
when recording
Holy sh*t .
That's really "crispy" audio literally!
Awesome video might have to pick one up!
+VeryCoolAlan thanks man! You wouldn't be disappointed.
I‘ve got a Sennheiser MK 4! 👍🏻
It's awesome!

This comment got held up by UA-cam's comment moderator. Apologies on the super late response.
Thanks for commenting and for the support 👍
would you pick this up against the Lewitt LCT 440 Pure??
It is a great mic! I got one and I really impressed by it!
Directionality has nothing to do with the proximity effect. They're different things.
Apologies.
Good review subbed.
Thanks for the feedback, appreciate the support, and welcome!
gracias por la información. acabo de comprar un mk4 . con que interfase lo usas?
Awesome mic!
+Larry Dickerson that it is. 👍👊
is your room treated? quite good noise rejection. your noise floor is low enough :)
Great microphone: superb for vocals and acoustic guitar. 24K gold plated diaphragm (no oxidation) and German-made, high quality and a STEAL at $300.00

Nice reviewing.
I use this mic and it's awesome!!!
Since I use mine for voiceover, I'd say yes.
You're welcome!

Nice review!

So what is it? An entry-level Condenser or a Professional grade Condenser
Price is entry. Performance is professional 😉
getting this beast soon
You'll love it 👍
@@TomasVillegas im doing! :D

I think the digital version is a better buy since you can do both. And you don't need an interface with that other one.
i have a rode nt1a .. is a big step to mk4 ?
Yeah, MK4 is way better.

Sennheiser mk 4 mikrofon = A class! N:1 👍🫶
An entry level microphone would not cost $300, it would cost $100. I wish reviews would stop calling it entry level.
I disagree and that's okay. Some of these types of microphones cost well into the thousands of dollars.
Is your space treated?
DarkPa1adin no, just a regular room.
@@TomasVillegas thanks for the reply! Sounded very clean!

That was done on purpose. Can't make everybody happy 🤷♂️
Well said. Thumbs up.?
Thank you 🤝
Can't make it any clearer than that
Honestly, you sounded boring but the mic faithfully reproduced your voice
