  • Got to Give by Pearl Jam from their superb new album Dark Matter.
This song is the best song Blur never wrote, and one of the most radio friendly pop songs Pearl Jam have ever done. There is a pop sensibility throughout the album that I adore (and compare to Avocado in parts) and this song is the absolute peak of it for me. Not sure if its because its at the end of the album but I feel this song isn't being discussed enough right now, so I thought I'd cover it.
I've said this about all of them but I really can't wait to hear this song live, and not long to go now until the European Tour kicks off in Dublin.
Tomorrow marks the end of Pearl Jam Week Round 2 on my channel and I'm going to sign off with a cover of the albums title track "Dark Matter" then its back to business as usual next week.
Hope you've enjoyed these versions and if you want to hear me cover more Pearl Jam, check out this playlist • Pearl Jam - Yellow Led...

What a song, it's one of their masterpiece. One of my favorite on the album including Won't Tell.
You done a great job to make it acoustically loud. Thumb up.. 👍

Thank you mate. The chords on Ultimate Guitar aren’t quite right. There’s a B in there that isn’t on that chord sheet. I play it as an E shape moved down to the 7th fret without the barre tho. The rest of the tab on ultimate guitar is what I based this on tho. I had a gig with my band tonight and the highlight was playing that intro riff on my telecaster through an amp during line check. What a tune

This is awesome. Best song on the album. New to guitar and trying to learn this one too. Can't get the strumming pattern right. Any chance you can shed some much needed light?

Absolutely love this song, and riff. For the strumming pattern, have you slowed it right down to get that fluidity and control before speeding it up gradually? I also find tappings rhythm with my right hand helps when teaching rhythm, making sure to accent the strong notes (in this case the 1, 5, 9 and 12). Hope that’s helped

Best I can figure is DD on the 3rd fret, DDD on 11th fret, DUDDU on the 9th, back to D on the 3rd. Does that sound right? @@SamSmithMCR

@@matthewduff5258 DDDUDD-DDU is the way I’ve played it I think. It’s a really fluid rhythm that I played quite naturally (as a student of Joe Strummer haha). The timing is probably more important the strokes. Finding those strong notes that are accented and hitting them in the right place will be the key to it. If you were to set a metronome, it would be on the 1 and the 3 (my students hate metronomes but I’m a stickler for them. My apologies if you’re also averse)
