My son is 10 and that was the lesson we taught. Swears are just words and like any word they can be used good and bad. I worry about respect not language. As a result my son is respectful about how he swears and he had an easier time making the decision not to swear on his own and is able to self regulate much easier.
They're at home words, BUT still, only allowed in the case of an emotional response, and NOT when used as ammo or intent to harm somebody. So no bad name calling.
The funniest one of those was my half brother when he was almost 2-3 he is 10 years younger than me and for context I'm white and my step dad is black so he's a mixed kid but whenever we would take him anywhere in public he would call black people his n-words and we could not for the life of us get him to quit he would always do this when my step dad wasn't there it made things so awkward but looking back it's absolutely hilarious

At his age, it's adorable to hear them parrot back words we would prefer they never said. You want to teach them not to say them, but you can't help but laugh because of their pure innocence, and you know they have no clue what the words mean.
