High Powered Rocketry Certification Day
Переглядів 17 тис.2 роки тому
Richard attended the Rocketry Organization of California (ROC) monthly launch in Lucerne Valley, California at the Lucerne Dry Lake to qualify for his Level 1 high-powered rocketry certification through Tripoli. He flew an I-140W-14A Disposable Motor System (DMS) in a customized LOC EZI-65 rocket kit. It was 3lbs 15.2 oz, 4 inches in diameter, and 57.625" in length. The ROC is a model and high-...
did you get you level 2 or 3 cert yet? Great video.
Impressive for an I motor! I want to do level 1-2, but it's hard to believe there is no club, organization, group, or anything near New Orleans. Somebody just sell me a damm motor! If Uncle Sam trusted me to use Semtex, RDX, and C-4, I think i can handle model rocket motors.
Oh that's a bummer. Where is the nearest club? Yeah, it's not uncommon for clubs to be a few hours away for a lot of people, and it sounds like even more for you. There's enough Mom and Pop rocket companies that would be willing to sell you a motor, especially if you tell them you're doing it for qualification. But yeah, depending on the nearest club, it will be tough to get qualified without a sanctioned event! So the South Louisiana Rocketry club of the National Association of Rocketry isn't active anymore, huh?
Very late to the party, but congratulations! Pro tip: setting your camera focus to infinity will help it not autofocus a lot during flight.
Thanks so much! I'll have to try that!
I'd also recommend the JollyLogic chute release to reduce the drift on descent!
Oh nice. Thanks
Yea of course. I'm not HPR certified or anything like y'all yet because I'd rather wait to get my full L1 when I'm 18 in the spring of 25. But I use it in LPR all the time. Very durable and easy to use. It can also help boost your launch constraints to fly in higher wind. Overall 11/10 would recommend to everyone.
wa state oct 13?
Yes! Use a star sky app and it will show if it's still in the sky
Who is the cute little planet?
That's my cute little wifey!
@@RichardsRocketryshe seems a great person :) Happy for you unc 😂❤
@@SmitPatel-q8cLol. I'm guessing I'm supposed to know who this is by the user name, but I can't figure it out! Haha. Thanks all the same.
Sory canadian, american is not my language.
Clearly, Chinese isn't ours either 😆☄️
Thanks so much for the video! I'm assigned to write an article on this, so your video is an amazing help. Excited to see it with my own eyes!
I'm so glad it was helpful. We quite literally made the video because after doing all the research on it, we felt it would be a waste if we didn't share all the info to save others the time! So I hope it did just that for you. Good luck catching it.
Great info, great video.
Thanks. Hope it helps!
I am going to start looking for it on the 27th. I have a good view of the southeast sky. Thanks for the video. I really enjoy looking at comets. Have new binoculars to try and view it.
That's great to hear. Here's to hoping that it won't even need binoculars! 🤞☄️
Thanks for this amazing guide! On the spreadsheet with details - is there a resource that lets you dynamically put in a location (say a GPS coordinate), and it updates with all the details with respect to that coordinate?
That would be awesome if so. I did these all by hand and I'm not aware of such a source. Maybe at a minimum, chat GPT can give the sunrise, sunset, moonrise, moon set for particular location in a table form according to date. Hopefully someone sees your comment and lets us know!
would a sky tracker mount help? Does the comet appear as stationary as other stars or planets?
Good question. I think it should set roughly at the same speed of other stars (and our star) that are along the celestial equator which is about 15° per hour. It's going to be slightly different, because when Earth rotates around the next day, it's not in front of the exact same stars. But it's definitely close enough to be considered at about the same speed.
@@RichardsRocketry thank you, I sort of assumed that at roughly 30 to 45 sec exposure it might be close enough.
@@michaelkrafft7241 For most mid October days, I think that would be too much. If you look at the end of the video where I go over our settings for the shoot at Joshua tree, we only did 6 seconds. And Neowise was less bright than this is supposed to be.
I’m going to be trying out a SkyWatcher. On a wide angle lens it bumps up exposure times from 15 seconds to 3 minutes, so with good calibration you can at least expect a 2-3x bump in exposure timing for a telephoto, potentially even more. Comes down to technique and your experience level with the gear you have to get good data. Would highly recommend practicing on clear night skies on random stars / constellations on the nights after the comet sets.
@@mjkman0101How wide of an angle? I'd be worried about it looking too small in the picture. We caught it covering a quarter of the entire picture frame at 100mm on a full frame camera today. On the wider angle shots down to 20mm, the comet was just a speck.
i just started understanding how to use my telescope, this video is the perfect timing, thanks you guys
We're terrible at telescopes, haha 🔭. Maybe that why we mostly do meteor showers and things we can see with our high powered binoculars. At least this comet should be too big for a telescope between perihelion and late October!
By far the most informative video on this comet! Great info and helpful tips for planning!
Thanks! And stay away from those 🗻🦁!!! 😆
Wow, many thanks for all the detailed info! Your videos always have an incredibly charming vibe and are always very informative too.
Thank you so much! Still got to get around to that L2 video, haha. We just did all this research for planning to see the comet, that it made sense to share it with others!
Are you as excited for this comet as we are? I hope it stays strong! Let me know if we missed any good tips in the video.
What I like most about this video is seeing how much fun you are having! This is what rocketry and rocket science is all about.
Congratulations have you been continuing your rocketry
Richard, this was such a great video. Have you done your level 2 ? If so where’s the video ? You inspired me, I was able to achieve my 1 and 2 out at Lucerne this past May 4th.
Oh wow! Congrats. I really just haven't gotten around to posting my level 2. I want to make sure it's enjoyable for people to watch but the editing process kind of sucks LOL
I am very late to the party, but congratulations!!! You just inspired me and my team to work even harder on our L1 attempt journey💪💪
I love hearing this! You got this!
cool
Congrats on making Level 1. I hope you post more videos
I do hope to give this channel an honest start soon. Thank you very much.
So cool!! 🤩
Y'all are charming. Please make more videos. L2 perhaps? :-)
You're charming for saying so! Thank you! Indeed. I really need to get that L2 edited!
Thanks, you two!!! Terrific !!
AWESOME!!!
That was really cool. I love seeing the kid in adults. Gives me hope for the human race.
Thank you. It does bring the kid out in me!
How inspiring! Somehow started binging rocketry videos and most seem to have been born with rockets in their hands and doing that stuff all their lives. Maybe you have too idk, just fun to see a wider crowd climing these ladders, maybe I'll join you some day. Big congrats on the L1 super happy for you!
Thanks. Happy you liked it. Well, I did shoot off those little Estes rockets back in cub scouts, haha, but didn't do anything until my brother-in-law got me this kit during the pandemic. Yes, it would be awesome if you join one day .. the more the merrier! Just get started and get your feet wet!
Great video. Congrats! Looking foward to more videos.
I'll try!! Thanks
We want level 2!
One of these years I'll edit it hahah
Congrats, going to try for my level 1 this year. Nice flight and good recovery.
Thanks! And good luck with your flight
Hey Richard did you ever get your level 2?
I'm eager to get back to UA-cam sometime to share all the updates! Eventually, I will for sure.
Very inspiring! Congratulations
Thank you so much.
Great flight and great video! Have subscribed to see your future flights!
Thanks. I hope to be back soon
Level 1 with an I, nice - doing it in style!
🕺🪩🚀 Thanks!
Can't wait to see your level 2 have fun
Thank you. I have so much footage I need to edit!
@@RichardsRocketryhey Richard, when are we going to see your level 2 footage ? You guys did such a great job with your first video !
Congratulations Richard! What a sweet video. 🥰 Well-shot and edited. Thanks for sharing!
That's so nice of you to say. Thanks so much!
Really nice video showing what great fun high-power rocketry is. I was happy and excited along with you when you got your certification.
Thank you! That is such a nice compliment.
Congratulations
Thank you, John.
This was awesome! I'm still messing around with low power stuff. I have a few rockets I should have never bought for around here i have no clue where to launch them. Where is the level 2 Cert!? I need to watch and read more about HPR's. At least I can build them here, and travel to launch. Anyways, good for you it was really cool to watch that, thank you!!
Hi Michael. Thank you for the kind words. I just have to get that edited! Id rather be making rockets than videos. I really need to make some time for that.
@@RichardsRocketry I gotta be honest I thought that was one of the better videos I watched!!!
That woman was very impressed 👏 good job sir
Haha. She was!
Great video....
Thank you! Now if I only could find the time to make the next one...
I enjoyed this a lot, thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it and I appreciate you watching as well
Hello when Do we see number 2 video?
Heh, uh. One day? I keep saying tomorrow everyl day.
Leave that idiot Elton John out of this.
That's awesome, congratulations 👏. Nice video by the way
Thank you and thank you!
Congrats on the L1 I subscribed and plan to check out your channel after this, but I assume you already got your L2 lol. I just started my first custom build with zero previous experience will be going for my L1 this spring so it was a good experience watching you go through it all for your first time. You really went for it with that I motor lol I'm planning to use an H try and keep it low and slow for my first go at it. edit: Bummer only the one video was a really good one though thanks for sharing your experience! I will definitely keep my eye out for any future uploads.
You might have assumed right, lol. Now if I could only be as interested in editing video files as I am building rockets... 🤔😆
Congrats!
Congratulations Richard!
Congratulations! Also, nicely done in the video!
