Love the pattern. Since I don't use a long arm quilter, I have a trick for this kind of quilt. Pick a large, overall leaf pattern fabric for the backing. Then quilt from the back! You pick out a group of leaves (all the same, or different) and put a marker, like a pinned post-it, in the ones you like. Then quilt around the leaves you picked with loops and swirls connecting them, like in your video. You don't have to be really precise following the leaves on the back, but when you're finished, the front will have a wonderful series of connected leaves that will impress everyone.
I love the winter theme. Changing up the pattern gets me thinking -- what about brightly colored fish on shades of aqua? Or flower blossoms on springtime shades?
My first thought when I saw your video, "Ooh! Appliqué! I'm going to learn a new approach today!" Of course, you brilliantly suggested appliquéing on the blocks BEFORE stitching the entire quilt top together. These are exactly the little things that one always learns and ups their quilting prowess when watching your videos. Thank you for generously sharing your tips and tricks. PS...saw there are fires in the Rogue Valley. Praying for you and your town.
I always cross my fingers when you do the give aways, but really the best gift is watching you work. I look forward to each new one that comes along. I have even watched many of them several times. Thanks so much. Love all the tips and the comfidence building.
Oh Donna!! I see that you are now up to 399K UA-cam Subscribers! Fingers crossed for you that you achieve that magical 400-thousandth subscriber. Thanks for another fantastic tutorial, I love how you provide so much detail about special techniques, in this case, precise pressing and how to do raw-edge applique with your machine. I've always been annoyed that my old sewing machine from 1985 doesn't have the lovely blanket stitch I want for applique, but I see that zigzag looks just fine! ~Diana K.
Donna, thank you so much for demonstrating how they cut a fat quarter. I have listened to info on how they cut it, but no one ever showed how they did it. It is just one of those little things that us newbies like to understand. Also thanks for the demo on the applique. All very helpful. Love your videos.
Hi. Just found your channel and have watched about 8 of your videos so far. I'm really, really, really happy! I've watched lots of other quilt teachers, but your instructions are the first ones which made me feel that I can do this. Your instructions are clear and easy to follow. Thanks to you, I'm not scared to try making my first real quilt (one that's not made out of 2 patterned sheets back to back). Seriously, Thank You Ever So Much!!!
Oh Donna thank you, the highlight of my week is your tutorials. This one is now my second favourite to the round the world quilt. I so enjoy watching you or Matt. Can't get enough. So like other quilters I watch your tutorials over and over again. How about you designing a baby quilt with applique teddies all over it? Take all care.
This is absolutely gorgeous! The way you make blocks and putting everything together has made me start to think in the same way! Patterns I would have never tackled before are starting to look easier to do. Thank you for making the video!
Donna Thank You so very much for your wonderful videos!! I ALWAYS learn something when I watch your videos. I have never seen anyone explain a fat quarter before and I must say I am amazed!!! Haha! You have a way of getting right to the point and giving us the knowledge that we really need, no fillers or distractions, I really appreciate it!
I like the greens added in with all the browns in this quilt. They keep the color scheme bright. The cascading leaves are a pretty touch. Donna, thanks for the extra tips about how fat quarters are cut, and how to appliqué using fusable paper and regular paper.
I am sitting here at my desk and binge watching as well. I love the way you explain and the simple way you demonstrate how you sew and cut fabric. What might seem so easy to others , is a blessing in disguise when you demonstrate it with such class. Thank you once again!
all i want is an small tiny bit of your talent - wow - you make it look soooooooooooooo easy - I would still be picking out material and you would have made 10 quilts - thanks for sharing you amazing talent
Wow your are fantastic at showing how to make great choices and shortcuts. Love watching your tutorials. Always such a inspiration to watch. Thanks for all the awesome trick to the trade. I’ve sent many first time quilts to your channel. You are so talented and the way you do shortcuts. 💖thanks again and Blessing to you and your family.
I made this quilt as my first quilt. Highly recommend very clear and easy to put together, with watching the video for support. I had great fun doing this, it led me to start making the cathedral stars quilt whilst I was machine quilting this one. Thank you Donna and Matt for helping to make this possible.
I love watching all of your videos and getting quilting ideas! I also love the fact that you don't talk about other stuff except for just the quilt patterns, etc. Some You Tubers talk about other stuff besides the quilting. You also explain things very well so thank you!! You didn't know it but you keep me company during the day while I'm working lol! Never a day wasted to learn some new tip or trick :)
The tutorials from Jordan fabrics are so inspiring and relaxing! Thank God for this couple. Donna you are a great teacher and able to bring over your enthusiasm. Keep up the good work.
Very Beautiful!! I love the leaves! I am collecting real leaves and then copy them. I will some day make a quilt of these leaves. Your quilt gave me an idea how to make it. Thank you Francisca
Love the way you teach us in simple steps! I just made my first wall hanging of a lone star! Never thought i would be able to tackle communing like that but your video helped me step by step! Thank you so much!
HI Best wishes to you and your family. What a fabulous quilt Autumn Leaves you my dear have a gift .i never miss a video love to watch a master perform such beautiful dance with fabric and colour .keep sending I will l keep watching
Hi Darlene I'm in the same boat as you. Started quilting only a couple of years ago 78 now but I'm enjoying every minute. I can't tackle large quilts but I do baby quilts as gifts and sometines a throw size. Enjoy your quilting. Not sure if you are from the States but I am from the, UK and feel envious because for me to buy one of Matt's precuts I have to pay as much again for the postage. 😕
I love the color also. I especially love your tutorials. Would love to visit your shop. I have ordered supplies from your very nice staff. Keep the tutorials coming.
My mom passed away a few years back and she loved to quilt. I think I will try this quilt only do it in pretty flowers and put birds on the leaf places...Thanks for teaching so well .
And I must add, I've never seen this explanation of a fat quarter, brilliant. THANK YOU so much better and easier to remember. I've only ever seen measurements of a fat quarter.
Found your channel over a year ago, and still learning with your tips and tricks. Seeing you use a hand-weight to hold down the ruler when cutting long lengths was a game changer - still do it today! Thank you. A pretty quilt, can see an opportunity to change leaves to flowers, snowflakes, butterflies...
I have been watching your video for several years. You do such a great job at showing how to do everything. Thank you so much!! Keep up the good work!!
This has so many options. I'd love it for Valentine's day with hearts sprinkled all over it. Thank you for sharing, Donna. Again, you did a wonderful job...never a disappointment at all!
I just watched your Leafy Table Runner tutorial & downloaded the pattern . I've made many of your patterns & have watched every tutorial . Love them all !! I have an easy way of removing the Heat and Bond lite from the fabric without tearing into the fabric & the paper . Just fold the paper ( over on itself at a corner or tip of the cutout piece ) & the paper will let go from the fabric very easily . It works every time without a struggle . I just finished appliqueing a large quilt , for a friend , that used over 6 yards of Heat & Bond Lite . Never an issue with removing the paper !! Hope this works for everyone ,
Great video, as always, Donna! Hope you and yours are safe from the fires - I would love to have a long arm but no where to put one. This is on my list of Must-Do's!
Hi Donna! I love your outfit today including your jewelry and nail polish! LOL. ....And oh yes, I love this quilt! I am ready for Fall...it’s been way too hot in CA. Thank you.

You make my heart happy. I am going to finish a quilt that was started in 1963. I am going to be able to applique some of it that has had me totally confused. I will use your advice in this video for that project. Thank you... Thank you.
Hello from the Philippines! I'm just so inlove with all the patterns from this channel, I'm kinda watching the different techniques, and someday somehow, I'd be able to make some quilts! Thank you!
