Way to help out with the extreme newbies to a 4X4 vehicle. Another good reference is to read the owners manual on the 4X4 system existing in your particular vehicle as there are quite a few different systems and they do have different operational procedures. If your vehicle didn't come with a manual go online for a manual reference.
Good thinking 🤙
Great advice for everyone to remember Grady👍. 4X4 go better doesn't mean 4X4 stop better!
Thanks!
this is so helpful.. thank you!!
Invaluable information! Thank you, Grady and Gus. 🙏
Thanks!
Two thumbs up for DAD us older guys Know how to get it done.
Gus is the man. Lol.
The push button 4wd is nice when it works. Will drive you crazy when it malfunctions...
👍
@@suboverland 10-4 I bought a truck with bad transmission. The TranferCase CONTROL Module, front actuator, and panel all disconnected. I re-connected the panel (transfer case immediately switched to 4W low)
Awesome video. Gus was good enough to educate me on this back at the end of November. Thanks 👍
Thank you!
No problem
Thank you for bringing up the “invincible” drivers. I see this a lot when we get snow here in the mid Atlantic. It’s 4 wheel drive go, not 4wheel drive stop.
When I go 4LO I come to a complete stop, take my foot of the brake put it in neutral (slightly moving forward) then put it in 4LO.
I'm looking at a early 90s suburban with the 5.7 with the 4L60 or 700r4 I don't know which it came from factory with 16 inch tires I was thinking about putting 235/80/17 mud terrains and yes it is a four-wheel drive on the floor
another informative video. thanks
Thanks!
excellent video thank you
Thanks!
You should do a G80 off-road demonstration video.
Nice! But when exiting 4 low should we stop and neutral again?
Yes
When I use 4hi and turn the steering wheel all the way the car stops hard. There was something stuck that forced the car to stop. Is this a problem that needs to be fixed or is this normal?
That's normal. It's locked in and binding up. You shouldn't be using 4wd on pavement
Does traction control need to be off or on while using 4 wheel drive? Have a 06 yukon I'm new to the 4 wheel drive vehicles
Does 4LO in Tahoe Suburban 2000-2006 have the central diff locked ?
Center diff is locked in 4hi and 4lo
Whats the difference between regular suburban awd vs z71 suburban 4x4 settings
The regular suburban has the same 4wd system as the Z71. Both have a hi lo range locking transfer case. Main difference is the Z71 came standard with the G80 locker and skid plates vs the regular suburban being an option.
Question= I just bought a 2004 Suburban. It has stabilitrak, AWD, and 4LO settings only. Would you recommend keeping it in the stabilitrak or AWD setting for normal driving? Thanks
In 04 GM did the full time Awd option with the low range which you have. You don't have to worry about switching anything unless you want to switch to 4lo for crawling. Any other condition just leave it in Awd.
Suburban is a car?! How dare you! 😂
AWD and 4wd are 2 completely different concepts. Auto 4wd isn’t comparable to AWD.
It depends on what awd system you are talking about. There are many. I was referencing the systems in for example a Honda Crv. A full time awd system like in a Subaru, Land Cruiser, Denali etc are a different animal.
@@suboverland I’ve seen people convert their 4wd system in to an AWD setup. In the GM trucks especially they would use a late model IFS truck and pair it with a NP149 TCase into a GMT400.
floor selector out of 4 w low w/o grinding?
Be rolling like 2-3 mph shift to neutral then shift it out. Disclaimer (Not an expert just from my experience)
how do you shift OUT of 4 w low?
Same process as going in. Come to a stop shift to neutral the push 4hi of 2hi
