    Got as far as cutting the bottom wiper seal and there is no slide bar as shown.I installed roller but at that point realized that there were already rollers in place behind the wiper seals right next to my install. I suggest checking before cutting. I have a 2018 Grand Design Reflections 315 RLTS.

    We had our RV to the dealer with this same problem. They spent a lot of time and lubricant trying to fix. They didn’t seem to know what was causing the jumping. Been in business a long time so don’t understand why they wouldn’t have come across this problem. Thanks so much for this video. Saved us a lot of anxiety.

    You're not supposed to cut the wear bar, only the outer flap to make room for the roller. The rollers assist the wear bar. They are not to replace a section of the wear bar.

    Great video! Wanted to let people know that it's usually not a "failed" wear bar causing this. It's just simply friction causing it. After my dealer told me there is nothing they can do to fix it on my BRAND NEW camper I purchased from them, I fixed the issue on my 12 ft slide by buying 2 cans of Silicone Spray Lubricant, running the slide full out, spraying the underbelly of it in small areas at a time until it was wet (evaporates pretty quickly). The Silicone spray leaves a slippery film behind after evaporating. Did this 2 times and it fixed the problem. So far it's been about a year and has not done it again since.

    Bed on back fell out of tracks and now I can’t figure out how to put it back on tracks. There is this nasty little box shaped metal thing that won’t let me slide it back in. So I brought the bed platform inside and tried tracking it that way but there are two metal stops preventing that. No idea how to get it back on tracks now, any thoughts?

    Well done, Thanks! I followed your suggestions and installed my rollers today. With my slide all the way out I couldn't get much lift. I brought it in about an inch and was able to lift it enough to get the sawzall in there. I did 4 rollers in a kitchen slide that has the refrigerator and stove in it. It seemed to raise my slide out about 3/8" to 1/2". I sealed the gap with a piece of plastic garage door seal that worked perfectly.

    I'm so thankful for your video. I have a 2020 Vibe 26BH with a Accu-slide and wear bar. It is only 5 months old and under warranty. Mine has a slightly different issue. The screws that hold the wear bar down are not fully screwed in and thus scraping the slideout floor bottom. Forest River has accepted responsibility for it, but I cannot find a RV shop that will do the repair work. Most say they won't repair it if I bought elsewhere. The rest say they don't have the equipment or experience. So I have a new busted up RV that I'm paying to sit in my driveway. I'm hopeful that this will take care of it. Otherwise I'm screwed.

    You convinced me to buy some of those Lippert rollers for our Montana HC and the 13 foot LR slide and the 7 foot kitchen slide, both of which appear to have failed slide bars. Now all I need is some good weather to do the install. Interesting that the lightest of the 4 slides on our 5er, the BR has factory installed rollers. I never thought I would miss the Lippert rack and pinion slides on our old 5er - but I do!

    • @jdwht2455
      @jdwht2455 5 років тому

      Just an update - I have the rollers but still waiting on better weather - maybe no rain tomorrow!.
      Most if not all of the jerking and strange noises can be removed by cable adjustment as I have done. Not a fun task but doable. BAL recommends ZEP 45 lube on the wear bar. Too expensive at 27-29 bucks a can - if you can find it. I used a 7-8 buck commercail CRC PTFE based lube with virtually the same ingrediants and it works. I have 2 reasons to install rollers - first, the LR sags and no amount of cable adjustment will fix that wear bar failure droop. The second - I'm tired of adjusting cables and if this helps .........

    My slides are exactly the same as yours and did the same thing. I degreased the wear bar as good as I could with Totally Awesome, then sprayed the bottom of the slide with WD40 Specialist Dirt and Dust Resistant Dry Lube PTFE spray and let it dry. Ran the slide in and out and it works like new. The rollers would be a more permanent fix but mine are fixed now with the PTFE lube, I guess that I will monitor them for a while...

  • @JustPlainCommonSense
    @JustPlainCommonSense 5 років тому +9

    But wait, there's more! The darco is the lowest point of the slide so when water runs down the side of the slide out walls, the water drops end up clinging to (and wicking through) the darco. The water ends up absorbing into your slide out floor and, you guessed it, you will have a soft floor that needs to be replaced. I installed a slide out ski to prevent the water from getting to the darco. Instructions for the install are on my channel.
    You did a great job on showing how to install the rollers! Thanks.

I don't expect much debris getting into that area only from interior sweeping out to the exterior. 8 Rollers ordered every 3 ft recommended.. Hope the wear bar is standard. Seems they all come from the same MFGrs in Indiana to save them time and you money.. Mine only lasted 2 years and I was befuddled to figure out the problem.. I have the same issue with my larger slide out which is my kitchen slide. My fifth wheel is a 2018 Keystone sprinter with 4 slides. I just bought it a month ago and the slide is jerking and skipping when coming in/out. The dealers don't have any answers but to schedule an apt . We all know what its like to bring your rv to the dealer. LOL it will be their for the hole camping season. The Rollers make sense. The dealers all tell me that the traditional wear bar setup is constantly an issue . I have ordered 5 rollers I sure hope they fix the issue. The only thing I see is that by cutting out the wiper seal and wear bar this leaves a gap for debris and other elements to enter the coach

    • @MikeHooley

      You can buy additional wiper seal material and install it over the gaps to restore the seal. I would provide more detail be we have yet to do this step to our own trailer. We haven't noticed the missing sections of wiper to be much of an issue. Though it would be better to seal it back up I'm sure.

Not sure why the yahoos let the plastic wrap bare the weight of the slideout. My floor was rotten around the ends. Also the screws that they secured the floor, went right through the plastic wrap. Mike, Hello and Thank You for this detailed post!
    I have not been able to acquire the level of assistance from Norco/BAL that you were able, but the height of the wear bar of the 12' slide box in my 2017 Keystone Bullet 272bhs is not as tall as the sections that you had removed from your Voltage. If I measure the stack up including the 0.20" to remove the carpet below the J-36 Roller Assemblies, the slide would still be approx. 0.30" above the current wear bars.
    As you appear to have excellent mechanical skills, in your opinion, if I were to remove the nylon rolls from the roller assembly, do you think that I could turn them down a little in a lathe?
    Additionally, as you had published this information last year, have you seen any additional wearing of the darco cloth?
    Any additional details or feed-back would be greatly appreciated!
    All the Best!

      I think you would be able to lathe the rollers down a little, though I am no expert on the matter. We haven't seen any additional wear to the darco from the rollers. The wear bar was causing far more damage.

      hope ya dont mind me responding to your post, as far as the darci cloth getting warn, I seen a video where a guy installed i think it was 1/8” stainless steal over the darco cloth, so the rollers slid on that, the stainless was like 6” wide, and the length of the slide. good day

    Pretty pathetic that you spend that much money on an rv and then you have to repair it. I think the rv industry is some of the biggest ripoffs in manufacturing. You did a great job. My slide hangs up on one side coming in so I have to either have someone on the corner pushing or I bring it in so far then reverse it a couple of inches then bring it in again. Keep doing that til it’s in all the way. Thank you for your video, your a good teacher.

    We just bought a Palomino HS1902 and my slider binds going out and coming back in, causing it twist so that either front or rear lags far behind. Will the rollers help this, or do I have a different problem? Help, please, Anyone? I really do appreciate your sharing this video.

    You mentioned you talked/worked with a technician... what company did they work for? How did you get a hold of them? I’m seeing the same issue with my Keystone Fuzion 2017 (371). Keystone customer service was no help... kept saying to take it to a dealer.

    Since the rollers are slightly taller than the wear bar, is it necessary to cut out a part of the wear bar?

      so far so good. The wear bar had started to rough up the fabric on the bottom but it doesn't seem to be getting any worse.

      if your concerned about tearing the darco material you can just install strips thin gauge stainless the width of the roller this will protect the darco

    WOW, this is great. Mine has been adjusted 4 times by the dealer and never fixed it. Now my Darco is ripping into the wood and need to do something to fix it and now i know how to. Did you end up adding a new wiper once you cut it out, are you able to let me know which wiper if you did?

    • @MikeHooley
      @MikeHooley  5 років тому

      You know we haven't added any new wiper to the outside of the rollers yet. But you can hear wind coming through, so we will add something when we get a minute.
