  • Master cue man and friend John Parris shows five times World Champion Ronnie O'Sullivan how snooker cues are made, as a feature on the Ronnie O'Sullivan.
    Many thanks to John who's supported our grass roots activities in schools by way of talks to school children and donating Parris Cues to inspire children into the game.
    Many thanks from all the team John.

    Actually Ronnie's cue when he first turn professional was a Buwart Champion the one he made 147 at record speed was a Burwat and John Parrot bought it off him. All his recent cues are made by Parris cue but the splicing on the butt is a homage to the Burwat Champion.

    I turned my own cues 30 years ago on the lathe, then used a bullet shell cut down as the furrel, but I didn't splice ebony in the butt, just had the end stained in a dark finish, surprised it's not warped yet. Even showed Steve Davis it, he said it's nice but to light in weight.

    Been playing for years , always used cues given to me or found or borrowed etc , had pure grief with 2 piece ash cues , especially ones with splicing and joints , grief over years of usage I must say , in my books one piece cues have a special feel from top to bottom , length of cue makes a lot of difference , wat is prescribed and what feels good are two different things , after years of playing it’s down to the feel of the cue in your hand and how it feels when your playing , is it consistent to your playing style , measurements weights etc don’t matter , it’s all about how it plays to your skills on the table , one piece of solid maple with a ebony butt with no splice is perfect for me as it’s solid all the way through and you feel the cue in your hands , some of these cue makers can’t even play snooker or have practice facilities wen you go to purchase one , your buying a Paris cue you have waited a year for and down the snooker club it plays like a broomstick , then what ?? Today’s day n age many cue makers out there let you practice with the cue , only means you got to travel far to get a good cue , best way to get a new cue !

Opinions vary from person to person about cues , you assume I play it like a broomstick lol I probably do ? But I strive to still be a better player and the bottom line is you will hardly ever see a half decent player using a club cue , they will go and purchase what suits them good or bad , if all cues played the same then Ronnie would be using a club cue too , his using a parris cue though , I wonder why ?

Players play with good cues made by makers because they support the craftsmen and John Parris is a sponsor of Ronnie. Ha. I'm surprised. I expected more. A lot more technology is involved with pool cues. Like hollowed shaft, spliced shafts, made from spiralling triangle pieces, etc.

    • @danielkandisnooker7990
      @danielkandisnooker7990 8 років тому

      Try the Mezz Snookercue for that. 6 piece laminated maple lowdeflection shaft. Its only downfall is the lack of veneers and splicings, BUT, and its a huge but, the cue plays sooo true. Must try

    • @impactglory
      @impactglory 8 років тому +1

      sounds like crap, same with guitars, old guitars vs new guitar technology.. i prefer the old traditional way real wood solidy made from one piece of would... but now you get alot of laminated guitars and stuff which is rubbish to me.

    • @dragos7puri
      @dragos7puri 8 років тому +1

      Not really the same thing. You can't deny that technology improves things. Maybe you like the older style, but that doesn't mean it functions better.
      When talking about deflection, it's basic physics. A cue that bends easier has lower deflection. A hollowed and spliced cue bends easier. Ergo, a more technologically advanced cue has lower deflection. Lower deflection means better accuracy.

    • @danielkandisnooker7990
      @danielkandisnooker7990 8 років тому

      You are wrong by comparing guitars to cues. I know that because I make music, and i know acoustics shouldnt be sacrificed like they do in some areas of the one ur talking about. But a cue thats laminated is not necessarily crap. "Sounds like crap" , spoken like crap when you havent tried it. So try it before judging it. Fact is, lowdeflection is the future of more precise hitting. Mezz makes both high and lowdeflecting shafts so those who want a traditional hit can get it, and us that want more innovative hits can have laminated. But let me Stress, that their snookershaft is the ONLY pie-laminated shaft they have. I play with their Wx700 shaft for pool, and that one is 1 piece maple, with all the tech inside the ferrule. So yea. Dont make it sound like im one of the predatorcuelovers that only love pielaminated cues. It is about the HIT. Not how its made.

    • @danielkandisnooker7990
      @danielkandisnooker7990 8 років тому

      Dragos Puri well f*ckin' said :D Predatorcues were fantastic when made in canada/US, but they are not the same now as they are made in china, so thats where it died for me. So thats the only place i can compare with the laminated guitars. Every company moving production to china are missing a trick. Not that they are all bad, but for cues, it just cant give the same trademark hit. The same reason Carlsberg or Cocacola taste worse in some countries. Thai snookercues are often brilliant and their tech is much the same as its always been, just with cheaper workforce, plus probably cheaper wood. But it's all preference. I just hate when people knock on new tech without having tried it!

    Iv used a jp i. the past but the dollars he charges are taking the piss, other cue makers out there are to the same standard or better but peradon are the oldest cue makers so they have the experiance and know how , my burwat plays like a dream and in the past players like alex and reardon have used the burwat to win world championships , as for hendry I think he had a tex Williams of the shelf cue , cost a score note and won 7 world titles lol , work that one out ????

      The problem with Parris Cues is that the best cues goes to the top pro's. Ive tried 4 parris', 2 from older era and 2 from the new. The 2 new ones felt like broomsticks, the older ones i made 100breaks with. Sadly. I have a Mezz Snooker Cue now, and for what it is, (a first attempt and successful at that i must say for a poolcuecompany) The cue rivals most of the ash traditional cues, and even surpasses quite alot of them. Low deflection and powerful on its shot. U have to try it :) ! It is made in Maple though, but that just helps avoid the annoying beard-ripping ;) so its all good!

      if a player is able and has a sweet cue action you should experiment with cheap cues Aswell as top end ones or vintage ones , you will be surprised at the results !

      @@karma6171 you take title for most incoherent reading. I said any CHANGE to your cue. Yes Hendry won the world titles with a slight bend in his cue, but it was always there since he bought it. He was used to the bend since the first day he started playing. Take any pro snooker player, bend their cue, and it will affect their game. In time, they will get used to it. They will adjust, and it will be fine. Bends in cue affect everything, largely deflection and squirt. If you don’t realise that, frankly you’re just an amateur. Also… pool? I mean, come on. We’re talking snooker here. Not the game you play drunk in the pub on a Friday on a kiddie sized table. If you don’t play snooker, it’s time to pipe down. You can play pool without even having a good cue action, you could probably play pool with a broomstick. I mean really, get real
