Absolutely love this discussion! I think fashion trends can sometimes help people discover personal style, but only if they're willing to say, "This is the style I like. It works for me. It's an expression of who I am, and I'm going to continue wearing it even when it's no longer cutting edge. Right now, the whole stealth wealth trend is big: lots of minimalist outfits and bags. My personal style is decidedly androgynous and pretty much in the middle of the extremes of minimalist and flashy. Some trends I've caught onto, like bag charms, and will probably continue to do after they're not cool. Some I never caught onto, like Balletcore. It's just not me. So I think fashion has a purpose, even for us plebes who can't afford to hop on every trend, but being stylish means wearing what suits you and is an expression of who you are as a person -- regardless of whether or not it's cool at the moment.

Love this discussion. I don't know if I've seen anyone else put their take on it! To me, It's always been in my head it's called "fast fashion", not "fast style" so "style" is more (for lack of a better term) forever while what's in fashion and/or trendy can sway with the wind. I think people are a little of both. We may aim to be one or the other, but we don't live under rocks- maybe a few pieces of the other side of the coin works its way into our clothes or accessories ;)

I do disagee about your celine bag not being fashionable. Butter yellow is one of the hot ss25 colours. Big slochy totes also hot. Plus its preloved vintage which is also hot right now too. Its defo fashionable.
You do see people wearing the trends who have 0 style and you see old people all the time in their 70/80’s who are not fashionable but can often be the most stylish around. Great video. Interesting topic!

LOVED this topic! You put it into such clear terms. I've always felt on the "outs" of fashion because I also buy pre-loved accessories and I thrift my clothes. But I do feel stylish. I shared this video with my friends to get a conversation going in our group around this great topic. Thanks!

Great discussion! I feel like there is a certain element of conformity to fashion, where style is more about blazing your own path and nonconformity. Style also requires a real self awareness and some experience to know what does and doesn’t work for you. I have made some very bad “fashion” purchases in the past that have certainly informed my style today. I think style is a lot more fun and creative!
