you're lucky to live in a downwind-able area- I'm jealous :) My 'downwind' experience is limited to mostly wake riding and the occasional times when the wind waves and the tidal currents align to go the same way- most often they do not and I wind up 'downwinding' on steep waves, at a snail pace, sometimes even going nowhere, just keeping balance on top of the wave. This is less fun than flying on the waves, at least from the point of view of keeping balance in my 17'' Think Uno...
@@d1427 we are very fortunate! We have a spot on the intracoastal waterway here that creates fun bumps when the tide and wind oppose each other. When conditions are right, it is a blast...with a top speed of 5 mph. :) It's actually faster paddling upwind in 20 mph winds because the current is faster than the wind. But it's lotsa fun!
@@ThePaddleChannel how deceiving is the filming- it looks like you go at least 20mph... moving against the wind and looking at the waves on the water- the eyes say something while the GPS watch says something different :) The illusion is created perhaps because of being more stable against the wind [which ensures more controlled strokes that give the feeling of efficiency and speed...]
Downwinding is the best!! Especially with friends new and old. I am so stoked on the Vega Surfski and how it surfs the bumps.
Looking forward to some summer surfing vids from you guys as we enter the chills here

Not. Jealous. At. All. "sob"
If it helps, winds are lining up for us again today. And tomorrow. And the next day. And possibly Friday. :)
