Great video. I ran many types of bindery equipment in my 40+ years in the industry. It still boggles the mind that these things can run 50,000 sheets of paper in an hour and fold them extremely accurately at super high speed. Thanks for sharing. Nice work.
Really neat, can now make diy equipment not just for a Fabrication Shop, but now also an *Office or Print Shop*? Seriously getting into replicator territory now!
On this note, i saw a Paper Airplane folding machine before, would this be possible, or is that way more complex? (Granted you probably have plenty pf other ideas already too!)
I've also seen the folding machine for paper airplanes before. As far as I remember it was very big and made out of Lego. I still have a few ideas. But it takes a lot of time to do all of this.
Cool. I actually do need something like this. Would it be able to fold 3" x 5.25" paper (long side)? How many sheets would it be able to do before it wears out?
Theoretically, that would of course be possible. However, you would have to build very small parts. I could imagine that this would be possible with a lathe made of metal parts. I have already built some steam engines (-> video on my channel). Here I had to build very small parts. I think the idea of building such a small folding machine.
That's awesome! How do you control the rollers from trying to turn/misalign the pages? I know on the big ones they calibrate the gap to create a precise fold but yours looks like it did a pretty good job without all that... or did you have a lot of trial and error to achieve a descent fold? I only ask because I have pondered doing one of these myself and I'm so glad to see you accomplished it!
Hi, I don't understand exactly what you mean. I had to try a few things with the angle of the guides between the rollers. The separation of the sheets is also problematic so that only one sheet is fed at a time. I have already had a few failed attempts. Basically, however, the machine did not work so badly. Like all my machines, this one is a prototype. You could certainly still improve some things.
That is so awesome. How do you manage to only get one page from the stack? Where did you learn this? I’m trying to build a machine which stacks 4 different pages from 4 different stacks.
Trial and error is the key word. At the time, I found a PDF on the Internet where the basics for separating sheets were well described. Then I looked at several printers and tried out some tests. The rubber pad on the bottom of the stick is important. This must be somewhat slanted. The contact pressure of the upper trigger rollers is also very important. It is a relatively simple solution. However, I must admit that not always only one sheet is pulled off. From time to time, it also catches several.
Hello, the Arduino code is very simple. The motor for the rollers rotates continuously. The motor for pulling off the leaves is switched on/off time-controlled. I can send you the code after working. You can learn more about it here: learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-motor-shield/using-dc-motors
@@FraensEngineering could you add a pdf of it in the download ? (I bough it like a few weeks ago) and trying to get it up ^^' also the size of the piece are for A5, my need is A4, how could I rezise some of the piece that hold the machine together to fit for this bigger one ? (Aside from the rods)

Hello, you can freely choose the width of the machine. I will upload the acrylic glass parts to Thingiverse in the next few days. But you will have to be prepared to tinker a bit. I would add photosensitive resistors to determine when the next sheet can be fed.

I had a commercial one of these years ago and the function is like magic. Soon to go the way of the Dodo with the relentless reduction of snail mail.
I doubt I'll ever need to fold enough paper to make this, but it's really cool seeing how it works. Great job!
I don't think I'll ever need that much folded paper either. Today there is email :-)

these machines can put paper through no doubt
Have you tried a0 paper size? What would be changed to do this? I want to try it out in my job since I do a ton of projects on A0 size paper
This machine is far too small for A0. Only A5 sheets will work. But in principle it would work the same.
