I got the affinity in black - plays and sounds amazingly good! The neck is one piece maple with satin finish. I guess this guitar is topping the whole affinity series, I just love it!
Tried one of these out on the weekend - not sure they touch on it but the necks have a really nice thin profile on both models. Also they're really light (unlike an epi dot) so easy to lug around. Super versatile with the Wide ranges on the CV version; seriously considering buying one now. A must try for Greenwood fans..!
Picked mine up about a month ago - one of the first to get one in Canada. CV in Sunburst, and it sounds GREAT. Couldn't be happier with it, great to see the review!
Dave Keuning of The Killers uses two originals a natural and sunburst. The Sam’s Town album you can clearly hear classic Starcaster tones. When you were Young most notably. Fab guitars.
Picked up the CV Starcaster in natural finish a few days ago. Amazingly playable guitar....I can't set it down. It could have cost twice the money and I would feel I got my money's worth.
Shread, dude! It seems that no matter what style you play, one of these will get it done. I recently purchased one in the CV series, a sunburst. LOVE IT!!!
I been looking for one to hotrod but from here through my cellphone it sounds to me like it lacks midrange. Like I mostly use Gibson 335's, godin Montréal, novo & jazzcaster mixes the ones I tune to C standard, drop A & D standard. Cause I keep my les Paul's, sg"s, hotrod teles etc on D#. Guess I need to try it in person. I hear it scooped from my cell. But thank u for chering.
The fretboard on my Affinity was scratchy like you describe with the factory strings on there...the issue disappeared as soon as I put on some flatwounds. The only other thing was I had to pull back the saddle on the two lowest strings. Other than that I'm very happy with the Affinity for 299 US dollars!
This isnt really a demo - more like showing off. I have a "76 model and it is a warm, jazzy baby which can honk, if you want to. Lovely weight sexy to hold. Its not made for shredding
David - Acoustically speaking, they're pretty good. Remember, it is a laminated top which doesn't vibrate very well. They're not as good as an acoustic guitar, but better than any solid body electric...
Did someone tell you guys to look more professional for this vid? Because this looks more like an advertisement than your previous videos. Also the editing is very good mate! 👍🏻
Oh, no. That's a lovely guitar-that Walnut stained Starcaster baby. Wish the Squier logo weren't so dark and prominent, though. A treatment like the JMascis JM would have been nice.
I do think the Kemper would make a broom with strings sound incredible. I'd like to see these guitars through a solid state (non-modeling) and a tube amp.
You can't swap necks on this unfortunately very easily, it is a 22 fret neck with no overhang, which means the heel of the neck is flush with the fretboard. Mounting most replacement necks would require leaving a gap between the heel and the body to get correct 25.5" scale length and intonation.
The Fender reissue was made in China. These Squiers are made in Indonesia. I believe the Classic Vibes are the same (or almost the same) as the Fender ones.
Why do you feel the Squiers are higher quality? I’m currently deciding between the CV and a Fender Modern Player on Reverb. I’d love to be able to save the extra $300. :-D
Goose Gaskins The modern play instruments were made in China back in 2012. Since then Fenders QC has risen drastically, especially on their Squier models. I believe the CV models are Indonesian made. I don’t particularly care where instruments are made, but in this case it’s relevant. The Indonesian instruments are typically higher quality and more consistent all around. Not to say that the MP series are bad, they aren’t, I just feel that the modern production methods and QC coming from Fender Indonesia are much better. Honestly, I’d buy a Squier over an American Fender any day.
I don't get why Fender handed off to Squier for the Starcaster model. Now to hear that the Squier model has cheaper, shittier pickups than the Fender wide-range, which were already something less than great. It's like they purposely wanted to create a scarcity-demand for the Fender models that are no longer produced. FU Fender!
I can’t believe Squier made a Starcaster. That’s crazy. Remember Johnny Greenwood is to blame/praise for this.
If only they made the Classic Vibe in Surf Green.
See at minute 7 for the surfgreen
@@bowlerboy1962 That's the Contemporary not the Classic Vibe
They have one.

I bought the white version of the affinity. It's such a great guitar
The affinity in candy apple red and the cv in walnut are the two best looking finishes ive seen on a squier anything freaking brilliant.
From the headstock to the pickups & that lovely body shape, it's a thumbs up this end... And it's a Squire, alot guitar for the money...!

As far as people who play the Starcaster...how could you guys forget to mention Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead. Lol. Also, love this review.
Jonny Greenwood dudes! He's the man with a Starcaster
I´m massively interested in this guitar. It opens wide ample avenues for creativity
Holy shit. I love the look of those

Man I wish the classic vibe came in that candy red.
This is such a nice video!! Imma share this with friends because this quality of video deserves even more views!!

as soon as you go distortion...no one can tell if its any good or not anyway. clean tells me all i need, i can distort later if i wish.
Always thought the headstock looks like a midievel polearm. Very metal. You guys rip. Awesome video
I like the clean sound of the walnut model.
Awesome designed guitars for this price, well done Fender 🎸‼️
I cant wait to get my CV starcaster in walnut! Couple more weeks....

I'm convinced Joss can make any guitar sound great! Versatile Beast🐅!
Cheers🍻

Squier Contemporary Active Starcaster 2019 in Surf Perl? Why not just put all the options in a computer and randomly spit out combinations?
That contemporary starcaster looks amazing!
Squire is using the Epiphone tune o matic and stop bar tail peice.
I am so tempted by these. I love Fender/Squier guitars and love ES335 style guitars, but am not a Gibson fan... sorted!
Where’d you get that necklace? I love it.
Will it fit in a Gibson 339 case? Or what case fits good? Please advise
Thanks
I wanna play stoner metal in drop C on this lmao
Getting one to put an EGC neck on for exactly this.
A satin neck on the cheaper version?! Dang. Wish the CV had a satin neck.
Completely agree
Or you can buy the CV and sand down the neck. There’s tutorials on UA-cam about sanding gloss necks.

How would you compare this to a Gretsch Streamliner? Would you lean in either direction and why?
Both great guitars.
Was a huge fan of these! Get both in your hands if possible
Why don't anyone ever review how semis sound as an acoustic guitar without amp? Any idea?
David - Acoustically speaking, they're pretty good. Remember, it is a laminated top which doesn't vibrate very well. They're not as good as an acoustic guitar, but better than any solid body electric...
@@mojostephen thank you. I thought I might be able to use it for my online guitar class.
Again, thanks.
Joss & Mark, how would the CV model compare in tone to something like an ES-335 Gibson/Epiphone type instrument ?
Maybe not quite as warm as either of them. A little more bright and resonant :)
Did someone tell you guys to look more professional for this vid? Because this looks more like an advertisement than your previous videos. Also the editing is very good mate! 👍🏻
The Contemporary is using BB King style without F Holes!
My next guitar in walnut
Could it be upgraded with Bigby? I would love to do that. Sir
A Duesenberg would bolt right on with no alterations! I have a couple of them and they work great. Very similar feel as a Bigsby.
I’m looking for a cheepie to have a Roland GK3 Kit permanently installed !! To run a Roland SY1000 !! This could be the one !!!

Woooaaah ! where can i sell a limb which i don't use???
The Affinity is only 299 so you might not have to sell the whole limb!
Funny, the body really reminds me of my Wolfgang. 🤔 Minus the F-holes of course.
I've always noticed that too, in fact, did the Wolfgang steal from the Starcaster which came out in the 70's? Hmmm.....
the inexpensive Fender Coronado as far as I can see. Seems to have that nice sound semi hollow sound.
Which should I get if I wanna play jazz
Jazz master!
I do think the Kemper would make a broom with strings sound incredible. I'd like to see these guitars through a solid state (non-modeling) and a tube amp.
how did he get the sound in the very beggining?
there's a tremolo pedal on, or the tremolo/vibrato is on in the amp, plus reverb
4:29 watch his mouth
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Anyone know if u could easily put a strat neck on the classic vibe?
Can I put a strat neck on this? Beautiful guitar, I just dislike that headstock.
eww

My shoes would sound good through a kemper patch though
Dr. Strange and George Russell
I wish they had touched on the contemporary not having the f holes. but hey ho
Is it the same as the fender reissue version tho? I mean we all know both are made in china..

Ricky Mendez piss off dude jus cause you don't like metal, they not gonna play jazz with active pickups
