What I like about this channel is the authenticity. Other channels I see are, "Here's how you start a fire. Step one, get the preseasoned bone dry wood you bought at the gas station before shooting the video." Dave is like, "Go get branches covered in snow." Other channels, "Now take out your bailing wire, chemical firestarter, and Solo stove that obviously everyone has on them at all times." Dave. "Make some pokey things out of wood and the back of your knife to loght it and make a cooking area."
This is my 0.02, I don’t think I will have the time to all that preppers have been doing for yrs. I just want to learn the basics, or what will keep me alive. This vid definitely hits home for me. Simple techniques that will keep any person alive. 🔪🔥⛺️
In Canada here in winter I always add two casualty blankets and clear contractor bags to my kit, minimum 2. The contractor bags are for a super shelter in case that doesn’t make sense. In the summer they are great for collecting water from leafy branches as well so I have a couple black ones but I try to have a clear one always as well
I'm all for new methods, being in the craft or the videos, but to be honest I preferred when you talked through what you were doing. You have very detailed explanations and are a wealth of survival information that can't always be picked up by just watching. You do you and how you want put your knowledge out there, just my 2 cents. Look forward to more videos.
I really love your channel, Dave. I didn't notice the music, i must have been concentrating on what you were saying or demonstrating. I like seeing reviews about the products you have used that have served you well. Whether it's something you sell in your shop, a piece of kit you don't but love, or something DIY that's simple and brilliant. In that last category is how you put together that tripod. In a thousand years and four days, i wouldn't have thought to twist the middle pole like that. Pure genius. I got a few of your books to read through this winter to see what i can implement in warmer temps. Thank you for such great content. Silently or accompanied by music, i appreciate it all.

Hi David. I like your wool coat. I live in wool in winter. I have to tell you about my Eddie Bower sleeping robe I inherited. I've never have seen anything like it. It came from my friend Jock. From Maine. Made in 1950,s. It's eider down filled with a most beautiful heavy canvas shell. And has a lambs wool inner bag that is beautiful. . It's rated to -50. It fluffs over 1 foot thick and probably weighs 20 lbs. I've never seen another one. I tried it at 8 deg. I actually had to unsip . I got to hot. Have you ever seen one. I never have. The stuff bag reads. For warranty service you will never need contact Eddie Bower for service. God bless. They do not make stuff like this anymore. I was born at least 100 years to late.😊
Sorry about the late post I do have this double strike problem that is apain. About 5 years ago on Alaska Bushcraft, the gentalman created a shelter using aluminum foil and a light, clear painter's drop and it turned out similar to you super shelter. I've had some history with parabolics and your a couple of "OH Shits" from blowing your own mind. What you can do with a candel will blow your mind. Keep it up Son.
For ground cloth I by far prefer a piece of wool blanket in the winter for insulation. The only downfall is if you sit on it too long it may want to fuse with the snow and ice.

i drilled out the mounting holes on the shovel's ferrule, so I can use longer, larger OD bolts. I Tig-weld bits of drill rod or big nails across the heads of the bolts, forming T-bolts. I Tig weld nuts to the female side of the ferrule. This mod lets me dis and re-assemble the shovel without tools. I have also modified my multitool to allow the same. A double-edged "drill-awl" blade in the multitool lets me make the mounting holes in the shovel handles. Sometimes i want a handle that makes the shovel into a two-handed axe (with a stone weight) or a paddle, vertical ice-chipper, spear, a full--length shovel, a pick/adze/rake/hoe and sometimes, with no handle at all, it's a "big knife" trowel, SKILLET, or pry-bar.

IMHO no talking was needed at all, from start to finish, title and text gave all the details needed. Even the "thank you and appreciation" narrative can be in text at the end. Links to your other videos, of the kit and techniques used, would be useful for us to do more in-depth research.
Good vid Dave! simple and to the point, cant ask for more then that. I have a nice small shovel with a T handle I got from my local Ace , Only 12 bucks or so but its made well and has never let me down. Thinking of doing a video on it some time soon.
I have carried the exact shovel for 5+ years now and it is the one single tool I will not go without into a woodland area. its versatility is incredible. Secondly, I have 2 of the Milbank bags used in this video that I use extensively ( for medical reasons I need minimum 4 liters of water daily which is a struggle in the woodlands sometimes) and I definitely recommend it to anyone, its great to have hard filtering while you complete other camp tasks. excellent video sir! appreciate you sharing god bless.

Steamboat Willie is now off the copyright list so play that music constantly and to hell with the complainers! 🤣 Also, seriously, I suggest keeping a can of spray paint or hair spray with a lighter for fire. As a kid I used to play around with spraying through a flame and WHOOSH constant massive fire as long as you hold down the button on the can! Only need to light the lighter one time and then you've got a makeshift flame thrower to light up all the wood!

I really love the toggle/gore hook to suspend a water bottle over a fire. It's so tidy and simple.
