- We are excited to share this documentary of our sail voyage to the arctic archipelago of Spitsbergen! In the summer of 2023 we sailed 7 weeks with our aluminum ketch Saraban'de around the island Spitsbergen, also known as Svalbard. We spotted a lot of wildlife such as polar bears, walruses, foxes, reindeer, dolphins, a humpback whale and thousands of birds.
Next to that we enjoyed the stunning nature, breathtaking views, amazing colors, majestic glaciers and rough landscapes. Often we really thought we landed on the moon. We are still amazed and very grateful we were able to make this beautiful journey.

This was magnificent; I can't tell you how much I enjoyed it & so much laughter! I also watched the video you made in Kjerringoy. I admire your boat a great deal, ketches being my favorite type (I am currently designing a 50 ft. aluminum ketch made for high latitude sailing). I hope you put some new videos out soon, and please, make them as long as you want. I wish you well.

Beautiful scenes and a cheerful couple. Enjoyed! May I ask if your vessel is a steel hull, or its it aluminum? Maybe it's a silly question when one is sailing in such places is fiberglass not a sensible option? Cheers.

Hi @guy7670 it's an aluminum hull. We've seen also fiberglass boats on Spitsbergen like Hallberg Rassi's but most of them were steel or aluminum.
Thumbnail: You’re foolish to get that close to an iceberg. They do flip or disintegrate very unexpectedly. Enjoy your voyage!
