Gold Rush

- I know what you’re thinking. Gold Rush isn’t a Texas style tune. And listen. Look. I don’t want to argue. Not when things are so unstable in the world. And in fact, the easiest thing is for me to just let you have this one. You’re right. It’s not. But here at #texasstyletuesday headquarters we like to think of ourselves as broad-minded and willing to consider all the possibilities. We also know that if you look up the video of that one stage show (which is weird because there does not appear to be an audience) where Dick Barrett and Benny Thomasson play a bunch of tunes, they totally don’t stick to the standard Texas style catalog and they’re my heroes so here we are, I guess. @tristanscroggins and I also address these concerns on this topic at the end of the video so watch to the end. Before we start playing, there is some discussion of Andy Griffith and an example of what happens when your fiddle player isn’t clear about the intro. I left these things in the final edit because they make me laugh and you already knew we weren’t perfect so it’s not like I thought we were fooling anyone. I miss everyone. Please let me know if you learned a new tune this week.

Amazing playing ❤
Thank you so much!
This is delightful both the tune and the banter 😂❤
We always have fun talking AND playing!
Special shout out for the great chord work on the mandolin!
He deserves a BIG shoutout for that!
Love it, Texas-style or otherwise! You two have such a groove!
We do seem to hear rhythm in the same place. Makes it fun to play together. Glad you liked it.
Absolutely Beautiful! Fantastic playing!
Cheers!
Justin
Thank you so much!
Excellent. One of my favorites! Thanks!
Such a classic. You can't go wrong.
That was fantastic!!!
Why thank you!
Read about Calvin Vollrath's The Fiddler In Question from a link in Bluegrass Today and out of the six presented I enjoy and relate best to your style. It sounds more Blueridge Appalachian to me. Can't wait to explore your art and perhaps one day see you in person.
That is so kind of you to say! And Blueridge Appalachian certainly sounds good to this girl from Northern California. ; )
Very well played!
Thanks!
Nice. I always associate this tune with Byron Berline.
As you should. : )
Really excellent musicianship.
Thanks!
Who's the mandolin player?
That's my friend, the awesome and award-winning Tristan Scroggins. He's offering a weekly mandolin workshop on Zoom these days. Check it out at www.nashvilleacousticcamps.com
