Here’s my top 5 scariest moments from the Godzilla franchise: 1. The sequence in the original movie during Godzilla’s rampage on Tokyo. A mother holding her children and telling them that they’ll be with their father soon will always bring me to tears. The imagery is so powerful and just helps us to understand what Ishirō Honda was going for when directing Godzilla 1954 2. In Godzilla vs Biollante after Biollante is created and breaks out of Dr. Shiragami’s lab. It places itself in a lake and starts crying out, the noises it makes are unsettling. But what makes that scene more horrifying is that Miki Saegusa mentions Erika, the human whose cells were mixed with Godzilla’s cells and rose cells, is crying out for her friend to save her. The idea of a human soul being apart of a monsters genetic make up while also still being conscious is extremely disturbing. The misuse of science to create such an abomination was something that the original Godzilla film had, seeing that get touched upon in Vs Biollante helps to make the creation of Biollante seem even more appalling 3. Hedorah is one of the most disturbing kaiju in the franchise. The way it can combine and become bigger is a terrifying thing to imagine. If that wasn’t enough then just remember that Hedorah doesn’t need to directly attack you to harm you. All it needs to do is just be flying overhead and suddenly you’re on the floor, trying to catch a breath but suffocating on toxic fumes. Hedorah also makes eerie screeches, reminiscent of a record scratching on a record player. That gives it some more out of this world feeling 4. Godzilla’s appearance in 1998. While it’s not really framed as being terrifying. The idea of being by the ocean and suddenly seeing the water rise up, while some strange spike objects are breaking through the surface of the water is pretty terrifying 5. In Godzilla vs Megagiruis the military creates a super weapon that shoots a miniature black hole. While they’re testing the weapon a kid sees the test fire of it, Kiriko Tsujimori meets with the kid and then tells him to keep what he saw a secret. A few days later that same kid witnesses a giant dragon fly like creature flying around the nearby city. The kid follows it to a forest and stumbles across its egg. Not being allowed to talk about it the kid takes the egg back home, but quickly decides to discard the egg. The reason why this is number 5 is because the thought of a kid seeing something and being sworn to secrecy, even when they see the situation rapidly growing out of control. They still decide to stay quite simply because an authority figure told them too, the film doesn’t do much to make that a major point though. So that’s why it’s my number 5 Great video D Man, love seeing some love go towards the Godzilla anime trilogy. Happy Halloween D Man!!!
I agree with number one. That poor mother having no hope, yet trying to shelter her babies. Then seeing a few scenes later that she did not survive, leaving her children behind, breaks my heart. Just showing general mayhem is disturbing, but seeing an ordinary family suffering like that is quality writing and directing.
For me, the most disturbing Godzilla scene is the titular third round from Godzilla Vs. Kong. It may look like the usual Godzilla fight scene like any other film, but never before have we ever seen him get that pissed off and fight like a rabid, savage animal -- no control, no restraint, no atomic breath, no mercy; only relentless brutality and primal rage. That is how I've always imagined Godzilla would fight if he finally had ENOUGH of anyone's bullshit. His brief fight with Kong in Egypt was the only other time he was ever that pissed off, but no time before or after will ever compare that display of savagery.
Another honorable mention is when Kiryu remembers being Gojira from 1954, its disturbing because of how tragic 1954 Godzilla was, he died a horrible terrifying painful death via Oxygen Destroyer and it made him remember what that pain and trauma felt like so he became "evil" again and started to destroy Japan as a reminder to who he really is, he isnt mankinds robot puppet, hes a traumatized being trapped within a metal prison, him destroying Japan when he remembers who he was has alot of symbolism, one is that you should never tamper with the dead while they are still resting, another is that you should never do something dumb as it could come back to bite you in the ass, another is that Gojira/Kiryu is reminding Japan of who really is in charge (mankind isnt in charge of Kiryu, Gojira is), the reason Kiryu remembering who he was is disturbing is because he didnt want to die, he was confused and scared and angered for what humanity did to him so he took revenge, and humanity decided to kill him because why, because we are stupid and only care about our survival rather than looking at the bigger picture, we deserved for Gojira to punish us and we should not have fought back and we should have taken every single hit Gojira does to us, thats my take as to why Kiryu remembering his past life as Gojira is disturbing
I haven't seen a video of you since 2018-19 and hearing your voice now just gave me absolutely whiplash. You sound so much more mature than I remember!
About the black rain You forgot to mention that it’s also the same connection to other nuclear disasters like Chernobyl for that is fallout. Fallout in minus one represents rain and it’s heavily radioactive and what Chernobyl been through was also represented briefly in minus one. It damages everything around the blast radius. This is where Godzilla lived up to the metaphor as a living nuclear catastrophe and the horrors they bring and a dark possibility for what’s yet to come in the future.
I'd be a terrible Godzilla. I’d probably trip over a building, apologize to the screaming crowd, and then get distracted trying to pet a dog. Not to mention, I’d feel so guilty about the carbon footprint from all that fire breath! 🐉🔥🐾
I remember watching Godzilla GMK after my family taped it off TV when it aired on the Syfy channel years ago, and then getting it on DVD years later and watching some of the scenes that were cut from when it aired, like the girl in the hospital getting killed by Godzilla's tail as well as the scene where they bring her into the hospital and she's screaming that Godzilla will return. Seeing those scenes as a kid for the first time was really scary and disturbing, and that might be the reason why they didn't show those scenes when they aired it, because they thought it was too disturbing. But anyway, great video to do for Halloween. Hope you had a great Halloween too.
A bit late, but Happy Halloween D-Man! Hope you had a good one. That scene of Minus One Goji staring up at his destruction is my personal favorite scene from that movie as well. The mushroom cloud is even more realistic looking in Minus Color, with it almost resembling actual 1940s footage. The music also adds to it. And of course, Godzilla's roar (which reverberates powerfully in theaters). Prayer for Peace has never been used in a Godzilla movie since the first one, and I think that's a good thing. If it were used alot, it'd lose its meaning or people would become too used to it. I would be open to an instrumental version being used in a future movie though (Minus One sequel maybe?), and only briefly, as a call-back.
In 1954 and Minus One, Godzilla felt powerful, nothing cool or likable about them but you can just feel the power they possess in both films, after all they are one of many victims of the atomic bomb, and thats what makes them all the more disturbing at the end of the day as you cant do anything but sit back and watch as Godzilla brings fear to Japan
Godzilla X megagurius has the most disturbing moment in ALL of every gojira film. Also haruo is just like eren jaeger from AOT. They both have a situation that’s just WAY TOO similar. And the part with minus one, just hits different. Also, 1954 gojis film makes me wanna cry but I’d rather do it when nobody is seeing me do it.
One of my favorite disturbing moments was from a deleted scene from the shin godzilla movie, showing the pain and evolution godzilla would be going through as the people walk through the rubble. The part with the flesh falling and the flesh hanging from the rubble was the part im talking about, being both horrifying and interesting
Happy Halloween everyone! I think one of the scariest moments I experienced with Godzilla was when I saw him for the first time in the MV. I wasn't exposed to a lot of horror back then so when I saw his face and heard his roar it shivered my timbers. Minus One's Odo Island scene might take the cake though. He was much smaller which made his attacks more personal. He could see and attack you directly now, plus he's speedy. I wouldn't have minded if we got more of Godzillasaurus because it was one of the best parts of the film.
Hey Dman! There’s a episode in Godzilla: The Series called “Competition” that’s filled with tons of Easter eggs to the Toho Godzilla films such as The Robo-Yeti flipping Godzilla like how Kong flipped Godzilla in “King Kong vs Godzilla” and the Robo-Yeti’s creator named “Yukiko Ifukube” which you already what that’s a reference to and lastly but not least, a Japanese kid on a plane sees Godzilla swimming to Japan and informs his mom to which she replies by saying “What would Godzilla be doing in Japan?” What do you think of the episode? As well as the Easter eggs and references to the Toho films?
For me, the top 'disturbing' or terrifying scenes from Godzilla franchise are as follows: 5. That scene of a mother holding her children and telling them that they’ll be with their father soon from the original Gojira is disturbing. I am in agreement over that, but it was not to me the most disturbing which is why I place it lowest on my list instead of #1. 4. That scene of the Halo jump from Godzilla (2014). To me, that view on the way down along with that music makes it that tension-filled terror I find disturbing. 3. The scene from Godzilla Minus One where we see the spot on Noriko's neck move. It just feels like something that did not belong and really made me felt disturbed when I first saw it; like why did this need to happen... Now while the black rain scene was emotional, I did not find it disturbing or terrifying. It made me feel sad and angry not disturbed like that last scene. 2. The scene after the police/swat's failed attempt against Destroyah when it chases Yukari into the car that to me was terrifying. The fish scene from earlier in the film does not comes across as creepy since the first Gojira movie and partly because of Hedorah. But that chase into the car....creepy and terrifying. 1. That last scene from Shin Godzilla lingering on his tail and the Gskeletons (as I call them) climbing out. While the first time we see the atomic breath is devastating, it just does not feel disturbing or creepy to me. I expect Godzilla's breath to be dangerous and was not disappointed, but that last scene really hits me that differently.
2:15 The horrors of Godzilla Raids Again? "Why is that rear projection"? Honestly, it's used in the weirdest places in that movie and because how poorly it's shot, I just can't it seriously.
@@DMan1954 Oh, sure, the light in his eyes wasn't fun, but why was he on shore? Did the ONE plane landing grab his attention? And NONE of the mechanic's crew even know about Godzilla until Kōichi mentioned it.
The attitude starts with the air raid siren, continues with the spot light & then stops once both of them are non-functional. It then of course returns big time once one of Tachibana's men disobeys orders & starts shooting. This is why they all died, not that Koichi didn't shoot but rather that this other guy did. His guilt was misplaced in that regard & his letters to Sosaku not too far off base in reality.
ooops, and to why was it on shore in the first place? Well even aquatic reptiles lay their eggs on land so maybe it was that time in a young Godzillasaurus' life when it needed to do some nest or even mate searching? And Koichi wasn't the one who first mentioned it by name, it was a mechanic.
It's like the Roland Emmerich remake, it would've been better as it's own thing than a Godzilla project (that'd actually make for a great writing exercise now that I think of it...)
love that number one was always gonna be that moment. one of the most powerful moments in movie history
I couldn’t agree more! There’s nothing else it could be
Here’s my top 5 scariest moments from the Godzilla franchise:

And I think that is like the most disturbing Godzilla ever just LOOK at him 😮😮
Happy Halloween, my friend!

I like how you have each respective movie you're talking about playing in the background. I love little details like that in UA-cam videos.
Dman!!! Got two questions for you whats your favorite non godzilla horror movie and one godzilla horror scene moment
The Fly 1986 and Godzilla’s attack on Odo from Minus One
Godzilla 1954 Is More Scary Than Godzilla Minus One.... Btw Nice Video!!!!
Amazing video. Explained the scenes perfectly.
I haven't seen a video of you since 2018-19 and hearing your voice now just gave me absolutely whiplash. You sound so much more mature than I remember!
Welcome back! It means a lot to me that you'd give the channel another look
We are getting Godzilla Minus One sequel movie.😍

I agree with your number one picks because I remember those scenes being unnerving when I was a kid.

I think Biollante's first attack would've deserved an honorable mention, but other than that, I agree.

1954 is the most dissderbing because of 3 scenes
1. The hospital scene
2. The mother and her two daughters moment
3. The main attack

I like this video by the way but point of of note 10:48 🤨 I'm afraid that was revealed about 20 minutes earlier when the Takao was destroyed. 😁
2:15 The horrors of Godzilla Raids Again? "Why is that rear projection"? Honestly, it's used in the weirdest places in that movie and because how poorly it's shot, I just can't it seriously.
5:00 anyone else notice that tv playing godzilla minus one in the background
And for me this Halloween I'm just going to build a gundam model
Sounds like a fun time!
The atomic breath reveal in Shin is superior to -1. It may be the single greatest moment in any Godzilla film.
Fite me
I did say “one of” for a reason ;)
What 'provokes' Godzilla on Odo Isle? Why does he come up on shore with such an attitude?
He gets scared of the light being beamed at him. Then he investigates the air base, that shouldn’t be there. He only attacks them once they open fire.

cough kennys cough
Lol
For the outro I would have done the persecution of the masses
Trying to cut back on copyright. lol
@DMan1954 even if you give credit to toho?
it would really be disturbing if the Gman gets wokeafied.
Good news!.Takashi Yamazaki ,will make "Godilla 2".🐲🚤⚓😁🐱
