Thank you I was told by a random person on journalist you have to work for media to be a member of the press try to tell them they are wrong they refuse to believe me this video will help.
That's why I'm using them. They are a professional organization and their pass looks like CNN and any major news outlet. Airlines know about them and they are on their lists as well.

Which is only in the US. This Gentleman is speaking about an international press pass. Still even in the US there are Org's and Credentials for press. Generally speaking press in the US will not get access to official news conferences without credentials.
Lol dude you can't just walk in an event and say freedom of press im taking photos. They'll call the cops quick. Press pass helps them feel better about letting you in.
Circa 2010, I worked for local weekly newspaper and provided a couple images per week. Generally a HS sports event, and freelanced whenever and wherever I wanted. The one night of work was fun, networked with parents for portraits, and the images were basically a weekly promo. The paper obtained for me via the state press association, a press pass. Was only rejected in one venue because it was a private concert. I would rather be affiliated locally/regionally if possible, but say go for it.
We don’t have a constitution in UK and the freedom of expression has been portrayed as a bad thing along with demonising human rights. In this bizarre country we need all the help we can get.
Press pass does not let you into events you must be on the list for NBA games Grammys Oscar’s and more sometime the pass will let you slide in
In big events like that where security is important, you would need to be on a guest list or have previous reservations for sure.
So after watching this I'm literally just going to print up these myself and use them for all the perks

In case of visiting in a foreign country with handful of gear, a press card will not do for costume. You will need to submit in advance costume declaration form + insurance certificate.
99 % of the time, customs don't even stop me. I was stopped only once in Mexico because of my DJI Ronin and I told them I was a photographer and just let me go.
I think customs would be an issue mainly.in countries that would intercept and will serve your camera equipment, anything that could be used to film their country and show them in a because light. There are more countries like this than you can imagine from what my research has shown. And it's weird bc they'll let you video them making you abandon your gear with your phone, but nothing is allowed when you leave the airport. I don't know if a press pass would change this but always be careful where u take ur drones, and more expensive stuff. It may be worthwhile to plan on buying equipment upon arrival after the airport in some places. Qnd make sure u can upload it to a cloud that's accessible once home and delete any footage from SD cards or key fobs before arriving at the airport to fly home

Can you give a list of other press organizations to be a member of? I’m a UA-camr but not photography, more investigative.
If I’m not mistaken you can use it as well as a UA-camr
So I'm gonna get a press pass by, man. I'll social media Instagram, UA-cam, TikTok, Facebook reals. I like reporting and going alive. That could help me going to events thank you
For the events, you have to check on the organizer's website and secure a slot if it is limited. Since COVID it is a lot harder to just show up

Thanks Mario. As a photojournalist independent, based in Colombo Sri Lanka been contemplating to sign up with to get the press pass and ur video gave me the green light go ahead to do so. Thanks mate and just wanted to check with you, so how hard was it to send them amidst the payment via PayPal the info they ask u to send along with the digital image what else do they require amd how long did it take for it to arrive in package by post? Hello Angelo, it took about a week. I had it shipped to New York. It comes with a lot of stuff; certificates, documentation and all the items that I have shown in the video.

There is no requirement for a press pass, as the US Supreme Court ruled that we are all the press. Things changed now we always have a camera in our pockets, constantly. No government agency issues a press pass, and it is not needed to record ANYTHING VISIBLE FROM A PUBLICLY ACCESSIBLE AREA. any limitations are for restricted areas, it is your location not the camera that would be the problem. People will walk up to you not filming expressly them, trying to say that you do not have their permission to record them. You do not need any such thing. The recording with them passively in a shot would have been minimized, had they not chosen to be confrontational. But they try. A person has no expectation of privacy in public

The card is neither less nor more official. It is a matter of benefits with the company and how people accept it where you go. Personally, I see both as the same.

Will this work for sporting events like boxing?
That depends on the criteria’s. Even courts or sporting events will have limited spaces for official news media like CNN. You should check in advance

Thank you Mario for the very interesting video. I am since the turn of the year also Perpetual Traveler and have currently also no registration address. Can I then also apply for a press card, so without a residential address? How does that work? How did you solve this?
Sure, you get any address for them to send it, too. PO Box or a friend. Even a hotel will do,

I like this because I've wondered how to find out about events for autographing purposes. Can someone answer this please? When you join like an aipp and pay the annual fee do they also send you weekly emails on what local events are happening near you?
I have never received any emails from them. But, there is a lot of info on the site and they may have a newsletter I just didn’t sign up for
@@MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller I'll check it out thanks! I used to get forwarded emails from a friend who knew a photographer; I think it was called "HNC". Since my friend no longer tries to get autographs I have not had access to press events.

That would depend on the organizers. Case-by-case, sadly.
This is nonsense. The only way you will be taken seriously in journalism or at genuine news events is to work full-time for a known media outlet and have a press pass issued by local law enforcement only.
That is correct. That's why I only use it for an extra bag at the airport (even in the rules), upgrades at hotels at times and because it works with people that think it does.
Great video. So, just to confirm, the press pass you are promoting only costs you $100.00 US a year?
Thanks. I'm not promoting and if you find something better, let me know. It just that when I researched one, it seems to be the one that gives the most benefits, had the most stuff provided and was recognized by more organizations and airlines. It was about 110$ when I renewed in 2022.

Just go to the website and fill the form. But, first I would ask if they can ship it to Kenya. You will need a credit card to pay.

Unless the organizers ban all media except a select list, yes.

I used it in hotels and events in Africa, Europe and North America so far. The coverage for their insure is world wide. It really depends on the people and company you meet.

Hello, likely. Again, the pass doesn't afford any more power than money would. In the sense that people give you stuff for your dollar bill because they believe it has value. Hotels give me upgrades because they hope I will review them. There are no format agreements. A lot of it is your ability to convince people.

A "press pass" does not grant anyone any privileges that a citizen doesn't already have. Oh, and if you're going to pass yourself off as a legitimate journalist, it might be a good idea to actually be one! You know, formally educated, degreed, experienced, working for a recognized news media, ad nauseum!
I am a stock photographer in germany and to get to championleague matches i need a press id. Is this press pass from iapp legitimate and can get me into big events like this?
Any press pass, including CNN is as powerful as the organizers allow them to be. If you are a stock photographer or UA-cam influencer. That might have just as much impact as a press badge. But, for most events, it works.

Yes, absolutely. It is in the constitution and laws of most countries. You don't have to be CNN or BBC to be called a journalist.
When I shot as a freelancer/stringer for a visitor publication, I hung my editor friends business card around my lanyard...just in case I get the ??. I rather have my work pubished in a newspaper or magazine to show officials my credibility. There was a guy in town who "chased fires/police" whenever he could. The newspaper loved him, the local police did NOT! He also upset some tv news videographers because he "got in the way" of their shots. Now, I kinda blame his "enthusiasm" about chasing authorities because our local fire and EMTs have upgraded their radios so that even the most modern scanners cant even listen to calls.
@@lonelypigeon7562 I use the badge mostly because it calms people. I just flow my drone in Mexico and the police showed up. I took the press from my neck and extended it to them, and they just calm down and told me to continue. Not sure how it would have gone without it.

Press passes are BS. The 1st Amendment is all you need.

The US is not the only country on Earth and even in the US, a lot of event managers will not let people in just because they quote a document written in 1787 they haven't even read.

If you are trying to do this just because you want some "benefits" while traveling then you are doing the whole community a dis-service. You are basically scamming the system and will eventually make it harder for real reporters to do their job... all so you can save a few $. If you are really reporting on something then super... if not then shame on you.
It is a little of both. I made the video because the pass has helped me access hotel upgrades for posts and articles. And I saw it as insurance in case of issues like I see my DAN insurance for scuba diving. I'm just talking about my experience and didn't get paid for it. Sorry you see that a detrimental to others.

IAPP website doesn't even work. This is not legit.
The website appears to be down at the moment. But, it is legit as much as people recognize it. I got massive discounts with United and Avis because of it. The organization has been there for a long time.
Can I use this card in UK? And for all protesting?
The emitting organization is international and my understanding so far is that a journalist pass is as good as the person that holds it and the value place on it by the authority. I use it when I check in some hotels or use certain airlines with various degrees of benefits. I would imagine that if you are at a protest, properly dresses and not protesting when the police show up, it will give you an advance for sure.

@@stopy2646 All over the world maybe not as a lot of country don't allow journalist around, but in most place, so long as you are clearly identified as a journalist and you don't not participate in the protest, you will not be arrested.

@@stopy2646 Yeah, that has nothing to do with beling a journalist or having a card. If the law allows you to take photos of people without their permissions, you can sell them and all the landmarks and objects are not a problem at all. Copyright is what is protecting you here.

This is b.s. I also think it is damaging to our Constitution. If a random individual sees something they think should be documented and starts recording with their phone, there are a lot of uneducated people, including police officers who think a "press pass" is required, or even a "real" document. IT IS NOT. The only people who should be carrying "press passes" are those people to need to show it at a private invitation only event. I don't think you should promote something that feeds into people VIOLATING Constitutional LAW.
A real Independent Journalist needs no card. Otherwise he’s just a slave like everyone else

I don't know what country you are in, but in the USA, and the other countries you mentioned in the intro, a person with a camera in public is NOT a "peeping Tom". Anyone recording from a publicly assessible area CANNOT legally be classified as a peeping Tom for the camera alone, OR any absence of a "press pass".
I'm from Canada. I know what you mean. But, as I have mentioned in the video, it is a matter of perception. The police or anyone see you with a press pass, even if you make it at home and they will think twice because arguing with you.

The pass is real and insurance you get with it is real. But, the power is affords is whatever the place you want to get in allows. Even CNN journalists don't get allowed everywhere.

Technically and legally, I can issue you a press pass two, but I would have to charge you much less since I don't have a title/website to do that.
