Amazing band Lineup: Michael Landau with "Coma" Guitar and 80's Rack, Sheryl Crow & Leslie Smith on Bg Vocal, Jimmy "Flim" Johnson on Bass and Ralph Humpfree on Drum.

I was an MI student that year and I attended this show. He played at least one other show that year with his European band. He also played in a club called My Fathers Place in Santa Monica a few times. I think I may have seen him 3 times that yer. Absolutely extraordinary. So fine. What a band.
@@WrenFamilyVids And so many other pro musicians came to see Michael play. It wasn't unusual for him to call The Pointer Sisters, Rickie Lee Jones or Bonnie Raitt out of the audience to sing/play onstage. The band would figure out which song to play right in front of the audience and then play it like they'd been doing it for years!
Please, can I join your club? haha..... Really, I love this Mike's "era" so much, of course all the respect to his Vintage passion, but to be honest, the 80s has something special and who can feel that vibe and who "fall in love" in 80s production, way of arranging songs etc. etc. that person become whole-life addict! Michael's "Tales From the Bulge" became one of my fave album and Mike's 80s way of playing guitar is was and will be No1. Must say, tastes differ. I have few good friends who love Mike, but with Gibson LP when he play some psychodelic solos for 10 min. and his band sounds like post-rock gang.:-))
what a lovely moment in time..I had the privilege of sitting in with them during that era, and it was such a delight-Michael's songs and performance were (and are!) shockingly good, wonderful musicianship, but love Jummy on bass, though I like Michael Landau quite a bit, Snuffy Walden has no equal in this genre-and Lesley Smith on vocals! Our local hangs were Westside (My Father's Place) and the Valley (La Velee)-and yes, Michael was kind enough to let me sit in on steel even though half the stage was taken up with guest guitarist Jeff Pevar, playing his new Dumble-and little Paris Patt, sitting in on piano...there are no words for good this music is!
Super band! Jimmy and Michael from the Steve Gadd band and “the Steve Gadd hi hat overdub girl Sheryl Crow ;-) Personally I like the song in the laid back tempo like the studio album version.
Damn this is good. "Money Keeps A Smile On My Face." Get your entire groove on. Michael Landau is a serious badass. And how can one not marvel at Jimmy Johnson? You can't really start pulling out names. Ralph Humphrey, Michael Ruff, Cheryl Crow - just a kickass bunch. Everyone knows their role. That's why they've all been celebrated. Just beautiful.
Man I was ahead of everyone about Michael! Started listening to him with Once in a Lifetime only because I saw who produced it! Was instantly overwhelmed by the musicianship of this album! Moved on with his other digital offerings, never disappointed, but when Speaking In Melodys cave out on vinyl lets just say incredible! Got to see him at the LaVeeLee way out on Ventura Hwy and was so worth it! One of the most underrated musicians except to other musicians!!!
i went to MI in fall 1993. He did play at MI back when i was there in 94. Kevin Lettau performed that year also. music was great back then in LA. Still is i guess.
Ahh jag var där såå jäkla bra koncert... , jag träffade Sheryl Crow efteråt, otroligt trevlig och söt (: för att inte tala om Leslie Smith vilken sångare !
Great! Do you have Michael Ruff from MI with Scandinavian Rytmn section from 89-90 Per Lindvall, Lars Danielsson, Nils Landgren, Lesly West.. That was a crazy Great Concert! If yes, PLEASE POST on here :)
Hi Lorenzo Lapiccirella - I remember you being there at the same time as me…and I saw a Michael Ruff show but in 1989...? Or maybe he came back the following year with the same lineup. Great concert, very West Coast vibe and sound.
That bass fill at 13:13 though... come on, what a killer! Jimmy is a beast!

Don't forget Mark Lennon from Venice on vocals as well!
Dream band!
Landau ruled the world with that rack.
Master of the universe

@@WrenFamilyVids and it was in Westwood.
Santa Monica - not Westwood
LOVE this! Favourite Landau era.
Mine too!
I think Landau sounds better now. Too much chorus (and too soft of sounds) on this stuff.
@@rosskolnikov chorus is what make this so great.
Same here. 88-92 Ish were his prime time!

R.I.P. Ralph Humphrey 😥 still one of the best performances by one of the tightest groups Michael Ruff ever put together 🖤
Back then people could actually play..😲

Yes Jimmy ! But then nobody locked in with Michael like Snuffy - makes me think I gotta break out the archives ! But which of the over 100 tapes (?)
I've got an archive like that of At My Place shows and assorted demos. Hit me up on Facebook if you'd like to share some stuff...
