I don't think he has changed much. It's just an ongoing thing: You're only as good as your last film. If you make movies and each one makes money, you get power, control, and the ability to say "no" to a studio. If you start having misses, that power goes, and you have to take what the studio gives you. Now, some directors will be all, "screw you and your film", but it does not take long before other studios hear this, and you're blackballed. Scott has always had a challenging run. He would have one or two amazing films, a few good ones, and a few "Why on earth did you make that?" Sadly, over the years, the gaps between the amazing ones have grown, and as such, he has less choice and less control when it comes to making films. A good example was Alien Covenant. That film was not the film he wanted to make, but because of the reception of Prometheus (that was even messed with), he had to make changes to his planned 2nd film. It was called Paradise Lost and set on the homeworld with Shaw. Still, the studio told him something along the lines of "People want monsters, give them monsters" This spoiled the plans because Scott said at the start the 3 films were not Alien films; they were sci-fi films in the Alien verse, and that when the 3rd one finished, it would link up to Alien. I think the only person who gets what they want is James Cameron. That is the only director I know that if it's in the film, it's because HE wanted it, and again, this is because he makes studios lots and lots of money....consistently.
Really solid and realistic take. Also with Cameron I think a big reason studios love him and he has the power he does is because the films he “wants” to make are box office inoffensive crowd pleasers that appeal to everyone. Especially recently I like the Avatar films well enough but I don’t think anyone would put them in the best 100 films of all time or his own personal top 4 or 5 of the 9 films he’s actually made lol
@@Rockstar-bq5fm Thanks. Yeah, his films are odd. The early ones, Aliens/T1/T2, are all films I like (love Aliens), own, and rewatch. The Abyss is also in there, but not as much. As for the rest, most were good....at the time. All his films just don't grab me. They do at the time due to action/spectacle/new tech, but after the first year, I just don't go back to them. That is not a huge issue for a studio, though, because they just care if they get people in. Another thing that springs to mind is that after Alien Covenant, it was said that Scott was not getting a 3rd film unless he did stuff for Disney. There was talk that he had to make The Last Duel for them. This is because of the whole "me too" movement and woman empowerment Disney is hellbent on. The other thing was a Merlin TV show, but I never heard any more about that, and seeing as The Last Duel flopped, I don't see Scott getting a 3rd film......unless Gladiator 2 does like 1.5 billion.
👊😎✊ A LEGEND! - Ridley Scott - Master Film Maker! 👌😆👍 Can't Believe He Hasn't WON An Oscar Yet For Best Director! 😔🤔😲🤔 RIP Tony Scott 😔 Ridley Scott's Brother . 🍁
Ridley has revolutionized at least 3 different genres and has plenty of classics but I feel like he’s still a bit underrated. He’s one of the last journeyman directors out there but never half ass’s the work and while not every one of his last few have been good, they’re worth watching. He’s as good as the script is so if he gets a great script, he’ll work wonders (Last Duel, Martian). If it’s a turd, that’s how you get A Good Year
such a pretty film visually, gorgeous sets & costuming/special fx. I liked the story (but I have a background in folklore, mythology & fairytales so it made sense to me) One of my fave fantasy films still & very rewatchable.
That's interesting, i never realised he directed the '1984' Apple Super Bowl ad, that's like finding out John Landis directed Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' level of surprise for me
Some storytellers have one good story, others many. Ridley Scott only had a few. But he still has a unique place in a studio system that requires him to keep at it.
One of the best directors to exist all honesty. He’s probably stuck around to long. the disrespect he receives now are from people who’s favourite directors and films couldn’t lick his boots when he’s at his best. But Scott is never one to turn down a pound note so he’s made near 30 odd films in his life and a fair amount have not been to what you would expect to be his standard Pretty much the example of why Tarintino wants to make 10 films and bounce
1:12 ahahah, it's from Долин interview. The guy just asked Scott about how his The Last Duel is the most historically accurate when it comes to aesthetics. 😂
Scott is absolutely right. Superhero movies can be entertaining but as soon as you're out of the theatre nothing lingers. All they are is effects, no depth whatsoever. Alien, blade runner and Gladiator are in completely other league. People remember these movies.
Even though I think Alien and Blade Runner are what Ridley Scott will be remembered for in terms his contribution to cinema, I still think The Martian is his best film in terms of rewatchablity and enjoyment with great performances and just really well told story.
To be fair, Ridley's comments about superhero movies at the beginning are true in the case of comparing anything Marvel have made to the likes of Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, The Martian, American Gangster, The Last Duel and Kingdom of Heaven, especially as the best MCU movie is widely considered to be 'Iron Man' which is just a perfectly fine popcorn movie.
American Gangster is great, right up there with other modern-day crime movies like The Departed and Heat. Also, I heard that there would be a director's cut of Napoleon, so I didn't go see it, remembering what a difference that made to Kingdom of Heaven. It just came out, I watched it, and unfortunately, its still not good.
His best films: The Duelist, Alien, Legend, Blade Runner, Black Rain, Gladiator, Hannibal, American Gangster, Body of Lies, Prometheus, All The Money in The World, The Last Duel.
You're right. I've just watched the Director's Cut and unlike Kingdom of Heaven it is no better, there's no improvement whatsoever; Napoleon is a total miss unfortunately, everything is wrong there and not even a 5 hour cut would redeem it. It has excellent costumes, some good shots, the lightning, art direction and that's all.
“he lost his mind” “oh hes been losing his mind for a while” “hahah hes crazy now he sucks” lmao people are idiots & have absolutely no artistic bones in their body. the dude just creates what HE likes. and evem at 90 is still one of the best directors & still shoots shots at a level than todays best cant even touch. everyone talking shit could be 25 years old in their prime and still never come close to what hell end up doing at age 95 lol
Yes, he creates what HE likes... sure... and 90% of it has been sucking hard for the past 15 years... but hey, at least, he likes what he does... according to some dudes on the web, at least...
@DrSlzzzp Dude, like what you like. I won't discount anything of Ridley Scott's body of work in the late 70's through the mid 2000's That being said he's been gatekeeping all of Brandywine & the Hampton Fancher's & Phillp K. Dick Blade Runner universe. The fact that he c*ckedblocked blomkamp's true Alien³ ,that would have been the "Swiss Family Robinson with Xenomorphs" on earth. 🌎 Just for us to wallow with losing Newt, Hicks, with Ripley, Death & Resurrection. Tells you something that he's out of touch with the modern audiences. Black Hawk Down, Kingdom of Heaven (Director's Cut) Prometheus, Matchstick Men, and American Gangster, The Martian, (Director's Cut) the exceptions. Haven't you seen Napoleon? I am gonna address the elephant in this feed. He hasn't been the same since Tony Died.
@@MrBoyYankee: Scott had no involvement at all in Alien 3. It’s actually a really interesting watch the behind the scene of how that movie came together.
Black Hawk Down is a prime example of why war movies based on true events should be directed by great directors with acclaimed track records not bad ones like what happened when Michael Bay was the director of 13 Hours: The Secret Soliders of Benghazi
He's 86 years old now man. Even if it was 2015, he would have been 77. Let it go, dude. He's old is what it is. Still not bad for a such an old dude. Still doing Gladiator 2 FFS LOL
I agree that “Matchstick Men” was one of my favorite of his. Also like “Thelma and Louise”. That movie really made Mr. Bradley Pitts. That got his career started.
"... but other then Tim Curry, the movie isnt much to look at." You should do a wht on him, because howmany movies that arent much to look at did he elevate to must see.
The last duel flopped because of Covid, that was worth mentioning. Not saying it would have grossed a billion but it came out at a time when nobody was going to the movies
I'd say really starting way back in the 80's after Blade Runner flopped her started moving away from being more of an auteur film maker. He was never a writer but stuff like Alien and Blade Runner he clearly had near total control over the production and the writers worked to his orders. After that point though he's gradually moved to working on scripts to order, still has more input that most such directors but most of his career has been this kind of stuff. I suspect the reason why he wasnt interested in something like the MCU would perhaps be that they would have demands over the look of the film and that is obviously an area he's always retained a lot of control.
First film was “The Duellists” (not “The Duellist”) as it depicted two duellists (Feraud and d’Hubert) tearing strips off each other in repeat encounters over decades.
Hi! We definitely can watch same movies but we can't be friends. Blade Runner isn't boring and slow. It's perfect! I love all versions of it, with narration, director's cut, etc. Conquest of paradise and Kingdom of Heaven also perfect movies. Seen then many times or listened to a soundtracks when I can. I don't like romance comedies but A Good Year is an exception. The Martian was too long and a little bit boring and Prometheus for me is way better than Covenant and Romulus combined!
Legend is my favorite Ridley Scott. The version with the Tangerine Dream score. Blade Runner is visually appealing. But it's a snoozer. 2049 was better.
This man has made some of my favorite movies that I'll almost always turn to if I see it on tv, but he's also made some of the most disappointing films for me as well. 'Napoleon' was probably the most recent in that category. His inconsistency reminds me of M. Night Shyamalan; Has made some fantastic ground-breaking movies, but also some serious stinkers. I think it's directors like him that make people appreciate Spielberg, Villenueve, and Cameron even more. Most of everything they touch turns to gold.
Black Hawk Down is the best war film and on of my favorite films of all time. The Duellist is great as well. I really liked American Gangster but i haven't rewatched it for a long while; it should (although don't watch the extended version; it has a crappy ending). I completely forgot that Body of Lies and Exodus existed, although i liked Body of Lies.
That was really interesting. I didn't know he had done all those films. As tot he difference between _Gladiator_ and _Napoleon_ - Maximus was not a real person - Napoleon was. Thus - the things that Maximus did - could be fictionalized - but Not the things Napoleon did. .
Yes yes. Ridley Scott. You keep making these movies? Quentin Tarantino: I don't wanna make another film. I think I might fail. Ridley Scott. I just do it. Even if its a failure. And yes This club meeting is actually all about me. Not you or you. Not even you. Yes Its all about me. Because your asking questions about me. When I think of Ridley Scott. I just laugh. The guy is something else. No doubt I certainly admire the guy. He certainly not afraid to fail. Yet he makes memorable movies still our brains.
Think about how saturated and shit the present day of cinema and directors are. He is still cutting edge and honest to his own vision, you work with the man he runs 12 cameras with 800 extras keeping the art of cinema alive. A billion dollar box office needs dumbed down cgi riddled super heroes these days, he is a legend. Nothing has happened he is 87 and still going. Gladiator two will be the spectacle of the year, we are lucky to have him.
You win a like both for the line 'not with a fox... but with a Crowe' and being brave enough to admit online that Blade Runner is 'really really fucking boring'. Never a truer word spoken.
Loved almost all of his films over the years. Snuck into Blade Runner when I was 15 (my 1st film of his and it was stunning) Didn't see Napoleon and the trailer for Gladiator 2 left me dis-interested and thinking it was a roll of the dice money grab. So meh... Will be interesting to see what he does next.
I will take Alien Covenant over Romulus anyday.. Covenant had issues i admit it, but at least it was a gnarly cynical film with a original story, it wasn't trying to pander to nostalgia fans.. Romulus felt like a safe bet corporate movie, made to gain only new fans who wanna jump on board in this franchice.. i will take a third movie on the David Trilogy over any new movie like Romulus anyday, let Ridley Scott finish his prequel story.
Alien was so far ahead of its time …I think Denis Villeneuve directing 2049 and it was pretty brilliant got in Scott’s head. Dune part 2 is one of the best science fiction films I have ever seen. Villeneuve and Christopher Nolan have passed Scott and it’s apparent to most including Scott.
@@markmccarthy7887 fuck it I’ll bite, Nolan and Villenueve have surpassed him? When and how and what do you mean by that? As in the premier director of today?, because if so then you have a point but for overall legacy of film… Let’s go there. Start. Nolan built his rep on small and mid budget movies like Memento and Insomnia. Good movies, low budget well acted physiological thrillers. Ridley Scott’s first three films are The Duelists, Alien and Blade runner… two of them are some the most if not the most legendary sci-fi films ever made that have defined and shaped the genre. Villeneuve made his bones in his own country making several smaller French Canadian movies till he did Prisoners. Another good physiological thriller sure. But Alien and Blade Runner level?? Now we hit into Nolan’s prime years. Batman Begins, The Prestige, Dark Knight and Inception The first was a fresh well made movie in a genre that had never taken itself so seriously. But it’s not a great movie. In fact it and “Rises” are companion pieces to the far superior film in “the Dark Knight” People treat these movies like their Gold when only one in fact is actually a exceptional film. “Rises” was garbage that he didn’t even want to make and was only salvaged because of Tom Hardy’s performance. In fact, All his Batman films benefited from brilliant villains. The Prestige is a great film as is Inception. His clear stand out films are Dark Knight and Inception and them alone solidify his legacy. Now Scott went through a real mixed bag in the late 80’s and 90’s. Great films like Black Rain, Thelma and Louise mixed with missed shots like 1492 and G.I Jane. But then we hit his peek commercial and critical success in the 2000’s with “Gladiator” one of the greatest historical epics ever made and Black Hawk down and Kingdom of Heaven. Black Hawk down is a phenomenal War Film that holds up even today. Kingdom of Heaven was a misstep in a great streak, not because the film was bad. But because the wrong version of the film was released in Cinema. The Directors cut is a exceptional movie and one of Scott’s most critically acclaimed films If you want to compare Dark Knight or Inception with Gladiator fair enough. But can you realistically say they surpass it. Villenueve’s next phase came with the highly underseen “Enemy”, Sicario (Taylor Sheridan written film) and Arrival and Blade Runner 2049. All great films, honestly I’m someone who actually prefers Dennis to Nolan and thinks their on a similar level in their field but Nolan has a weird cult around him that calls any fart he makes a flower and Villenueve never received similar adoration despite making near better films or of the same quality. But once again with Enemy/Sicario/Blade Runner, has he made anything to this point that actually gives precedence to say what he’s made surpasses Scott? One of his best films is a sequel to a legendary Scott film. Final phase Nolan went on a spree of high concept big budget passion projects with Dunkirk, Interstellar and Tennet and Oppenheimer. These are ambitious, huge scoped, massive productions that Nolan wanted to make. And their all majorly flawed. Dunkirk was a boring dull and incoherent mess. Visually stunning in spots but, compared to something like Scott’s Black Hawk Dawn or Sam Mendes 1917 it watches like a Ego project from a director set out to create a soulless visual spectacle with no story or soul. Interstellar I’m more forgiving with but once again it suffers from very soulless and dull Nolan dialogue (a weakness he has as a writer when his brother is not their to supplement for him) and a weird off rail ending. Out of the 4 this is the movie I like most of his though Tennet. One big pretentious mess Oppenheimer is a very respectable well crafted movie. But is this the film you would put up to Ridley Scott? and say “I’ve surpassed you” this has been a very weak time for Nolan and I don’t get how people pretend it isn’t. Outside of Oppenheimer his last 3 films were duds Villenueve is on absolute tear at the moment with the Dune Films, there exemplary. But the first wasn’t flawless. Once again it works as looking at them as one film to create a full story because without the pay off of the second, we’d of been left with a incomplete story. But the second has everything and is honestly something I would put next to the best of what Scott has and say it’s right up there Since Kingdom of Heaven this has been Scott at his most inconsistent. He’s made forgettable films, he’s had his dealings with the Alien sequels which wasn’t because their bad movies. Their not. Their just not want fans of the franchise want. They don’t want to go to the places Scott wanted to take the series, they didn’t want to a philosophical discussion on atheism, religion, life’s futility and meaninglessness. All that stuff is freaking weird for a casual film goer wanting to see a face hugger and Xenomorph body some poor schmuck. Or poorly designed historical epics like Gods and Kings or Napoleon. For pure spectacle their alright watches. But not when we’ve seen what you’re capable of previously with films like Heaven and Gladiator. Even then though he has had big triumphs. American Gangster is one of the last great gangster films that was made in Hollywood and one of Denzels best films period. The Martian is a great film from Scott, terrific feel good Sci-fi survival with heart and style. Didn’t have the scale of something like Nolan’s interstellar. But it was much more watchable. The Last Duel is a real return to form from Scott, but underseen and poor box office will always be held against it Anyway what we have for their best works Villenueve’s biggest profile films: Prisoners, Sicario, Arrivel, Bladerunner 2049, Dune 1&2 Nolan’s: Memento, Batman Begins, Dark Knight, Inception, the Prestige, Dark Knight Rises, Dunkirk, Interstellar, Tennet, Oppenheimer. Scott’s: The Duelists, Alien, Blade Runner, Black Rain, Thelma and Louise, gladiator, Black Hawk Down, American Gangster, The Martian, The Last Duel. Can you seriously look at their resumes and say with a straight face Either Villenueve or Nolan has a better resume than Scott? All are great film makers but this crazy push for Nolan’s dominance as the “premier director” of the age is a very strange thing… Especially as Kubrick still stands as that to this day. Speilberg is the highest grossing overall of all time And Cameron’s films have made more on average despite only ever making 8 films lol

Especially recently
I like the Avatar films well enough but I don’t think anyone would put them in the best 100 films of all time or his own personal top 4 or 5 of the 9 films he’s actually made lol
James Nesbitt was in moon of the wolf 1972 with royal dano the ghoul 1975 with Peter Cushing
👊😎✊ A LEGEND! - Ridley Scott - Master Film Maker! 👌😆👍
Can't Believe He Hasn't WON An Oscar Yet For Best Director! 😔🤔😲🤔
RIP Tony Scott 😔
Ridley Scott's Brother .

I saw his recent interviews, reacting to Alien Romulus, and he’s awesome. Very charming and bright at his age of 86.
Still remember his Hovis ad
Thanks for making this video! I requested this months ago and its cool to see that happen.
If it’s a turd, that’s how you get A Good Year
A journeyman doesn’t make all time genre classics like Alien, Bladerunner, Gladiator etc. But his efforts since Gladiator seem a bit undistinguished
Whether the script is good or not, you can always count on a brilliant execution of it by Ridley.
Legend deserves more love.
such a pretty film visually, gorgeous sets & costuming/special fx. I liked the story (but I have a background in folklore, mythology & fairytales so it made sense to me) One of my fave fantasy films still & very rewatchable.
That's interesting, i never realised he directed the '1984' Apple Super Bowl ad, that's like finding out John Landis directed Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' level of surprise for me
Raised By Wolves, was amazing 😍
Body Of Lies is a fantastic movie.. Extremely underrated!
Some storytellers have one good story, others many. Ridley Scott only had a few. But he still has a unique place in a studio system that requires him to keep at it.
Scott owes 60% of his success to Hans Zimmer
One of the best directors to exist all honesty. He’s probably stuck around to long. the disrespect he receives now are from people who’s favourite directors and films couldn’t lick his boots when he’s at his best. But Scott is never one to turn down a pound note so he’s made near 30 odd films in his life and a fair amount have not been to what you would expect to be his standard
Pretty much the example of why Tarintino wants to make 10 films and bounce
1:12 ahahah, it's from Долин interview. The guy just asked Scott about how his The Last Duel is the most historically accurate when it comes to aesthetics. 😂
Excellent vid Team JoBlo. Love ya!
One of the best directors ever 👌
To be fair, Ridley's comments about superhero movies at the beginning are true in the case of comparing anything Marvel have made to the likes of Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, The Martian, American Gangster, The Last Duel and Kingdom of Heaven, especially as the best MCU movie is widely considered to be 'Iron Man' which is just a perfectly fine popcorn movie.
I like Prometheus. In fact, it's brilliant.
❤100% F the haters.
Napoleon was amazing. All of his movies are great for the most part. He is a master of his craft.
What a mean-spirited little video
One of my favs directors!
I think Napoleons only chance for greatness was to be a series, or hyper focused on one event in his life.
“he lost his mind”
“oh hes been losing his mind for a while”
“hahah hes crazy now he sucks”
lmao people are idiots & have absolutely no artistic bones in their body. the dude just creates what HE likes. and evem at 90 is still one of the best directors & still shoots shots at a level than todays best cant even touch. everyone talking shit could be 25 years old in their prime and still never come close to what hell end up doing at age 95 lol
@@Rockstar-bq5fm Still under Brandywine so.....
@@Rockstar-bq5fm I seen the fairly decent Assembly Cut and the behind the scenes still cooked!!!
The Last Duel is a Masterpiece, I love this movie!
Hey Bro - great video! Please could you reduce the background audio volume slightly or introduce 'side chaining' to keep levels even.
Thank you!
The last duel was movie of the year for me
25:23-25:35 And the reason Why That Quentin Tarantino was Retired from Filmmaker after Their 10th film.
Ridley Scott is correct, he’s directed Three of the best superhero movies!
Black Hawk Down is a prime example of why war movies based on true events should be directed by great directors with acclaimed track records not bad ones like what happened when Michael Bay was the director of 13 Hours: The Secret Soliders of Benghazi
I love how Ridley Scott keeps going
He's 86 years old now man. Even if it was 2015, he would have been 77.
Let it go, dude. He's old is what it is. Still not bad for a such an old dude. Still doing Gladiator 2 FFS
LOL
I agree that “Matchstick Men” was one of my favorite of his. Also like “Thelma and Louise”. That movie really made Mr. Bradley Pitts. That got his career started.
He needs to have amazing screenplays. He does the visuals like no-one else.
Budget constraints pushed him to make art. Limitless budgets, not so much.
"... but other then Tim Curry, the movie isnt much to look at." You should do a wht on him, because howmany movies that arent much to look at did he elevate to must see.
I never knew he did Black Rain. That movie is fantastic. “Someone to watch over me” is extremely underrated
No film from the past, from the present or from the future can beat the greatness of GI Jane.
Blade Runner is boring? slow down, man... watch some Jim Jarmusch and stop looking at your phone.
He can make whatever movies he wants.
The Martian is my comfort movie.
The irony of Robin Hood stories is that John wins and becomes King anyway. And WTF? Was Robin Hood and Royality John on the same team in that movie!?!
So true most of that, great video
Guess it just goes to show how hard it is for even the greats to make a decent film in modern times.
What about 'Raised by Wolves' which I really enjoyed.
I want to see ridley scott direct a Mister Miracle movie.
Legend is my favorite Ridley Scott. The version with the Tangerine Dream score.
Blade Runner is visually appealing. But it's a snoozer. 2049 was better.
the last duel is good....matt damon is damn good in it
This man has made some of my favorite movies that I'll almost always turn to if I see it on tv, but he's also made some of the most disappointing films for me as well.
The unicorn footage in Bladerunner was actually shot for Bladerunner, not lifted from Legend
What happened to James Nesbitt
That was really interesting.
I didn't know he had done all those films.
As tot he difference between _Gladiator_ and _Napoleon_ - Maximus was not a real person - Napoleon was. Thus - the things that Maximus did - could be fictionalized - but Not the things Napoleon did.
.
Westernkind is amazing and culture-loving all over the world.
Black Hawk Down is amazing.
Matchstick Men, American Gangster, Prometheus and Covenant are all fantastic
I like kingdom of heaven a lot actually
Yes, just brush-off the late-80s crime genre masterpiece BLACK RAIN and call it "shallow"🙄 Geez.
I wish Ridley Scott would take his time. He makes over coveraged films and made them in the least amount of time as possible
Ridley Scott is a beast of a director. Dude doesn’t stop, he just keeps going, so much respect for the dude.
There is a big difference between a lead protagonist and a guy who can control thunder my dude
I dont like Kingdom of Heaven but i like American Gangster (extended) the most from his work.

This announcer is so annoying. - JCVD
As in the premier director of today?, because if so then you have a point but for overall legacy of film…
Let’s go there.
Batman Begins, The Prestige, Dark Knight and Inception
The first was a fresh well made movie in a genre that had never taken itself so seriously. But it’s not a great movie. In fact it and “Rises” are companion pieces to the far superior film in “the Dark Knight”
People treat these movies like their Gold when only one in fact is actually a exceptional film.
The Directors cut is a exceptional movie and one of Scott’s most critically acclaimed films
If you want to compare Dark Knight or Inception with Gladiator fair enough.
Final phase
Nolan went on a spree of high concept big budget passion projects with Dunkirk, Interstellar and Tennet and Oppenheimer.
Out of the 4 this is the movie I like most of his though
Tennet. One big pretentious mess
Oppenheimer is a very respectable well crafted movie. But is this the film you would put up to Ridley Scott? and say “I’ve surpassed you” this has been a very weak time for Nolan and I don’t get how people pretend it isn’t. Outside of Oppenheimer his last 3 films were duds
Villenueve is on absolute tear at the moment with the Dune Films, there exemplary. But the first wasn’t flawless. Once again it works as looking at them as one film to create a full story because without the pay off of the second, we’d of been left with a incomplete story. But the second has everything and is honestly something I would put next to the best of what Scott has and say it’s right up there
Since Kingdom of Heaven this has been Scott at his most inconsistent.
The Last Duel is a real return to form from Scott, but underseen and poor box office will always be held against it
Anyway what we have for their best works
Villenueve’s biggest profile films:
Prisoners, Sicario, Arrivel, Bladerunner 2049, Dune 1&2
Nolan’s: Memento, Batman Begins, Dark Knight, Inception, the Prestige, Dark Knight Rises, Dunkirk, Interstellar, Tennet, Oppenheimer.
All are great film makers but this crazy push for Nolan’s dominance as the “premier director” of the age is a very strange thing…
Especially as Kubrick still stands as that to this day.
Speilberg is the highest grossing overall of all time
And Cameron’s films have made more on average despite only ever making 8 films lol
@@Rockstar-bq5fm on body of work they have not ..I freaking love Ridley …don’t get me wrong . Maybe more so than the JB crowd because I liked a lot of films that the channel doesn’t ..but in 2024 right now there are couple of dudes that are making great films in his cinematic type pond. Allowing Villeneuve to pinch hit for him on blade runner and Villeneuve hitting an absolute grand slam home run bruised his ego. Again Dune 2 to me was absolutely incredible.
