Great idea Some guys move the trap springs to the middle of the slot so the trap doesn't throw itself down the body of the otter or out of the tube if a mink sets it off. Might save you a few bucks on building if you drill a 3/8" hole through the top of your stabilizer for anchoring the trap instead of using an eye bolt?
how fresh does the bait have to be? I get otters nearly every year in my pond here in alabama. i catch them in trail sets, but i'd like to be more effective.
If it’s cold enough the bait usually stays fresh a few days it also works awesome if you put a big chrome fish lure in there with no hooks and put some fish oil on it seems to do pretty well then you won’t have to change bait.
great otter set up . that is 220 trap ? i am going to make some of these as soon as i can find the pvc . are you using trout , shad or what is your favorite bait ? nice footage of this set up in use .
Yes it’s a 220 check your regulations some states can’t bait them traps so we’ll either use a bright shad looking fishing lure or a little sunfish or bluegill
12" pipe is hard to find. I used 2- 5 gallon pails, cut the bottoms off (one 2" more than the other) and screwed them together and wired the handles together for a carry handle.
We’ve set most like blind sets where they are just below the water and set some in 4+ foot holes of water along a well traveled banks or feeding areas.
Sorry for the clicking sound you hear our mic broke before the video started you hear the camera lanyard hitting the internal microphone. Thanks you!

@@TripleBeamOutdoors here we can use a 7x7 220's on dryland . i have used boxes , but the tube trap looks like it would work better .
