Hopper is the first main Pixar movie villain to be physically fought and first main Pixar movie villain to be killed off in his movie. He was followed by Syndrome of The Incredibles, Charles F. Muntz of Up, Mor'du of Brave, and Ernesto de la Cruz of Coco (although his death technically occurred before the events of the film). Hopper is also the first Pixar character overall who is not an inanimate object to die.

I can imagine in between Hopper's death and the rest of the ending be with Atta apologizing to Flik and the ant colony cheering for him, also Molt comes making the ants ready to attack him, but he makes a confession that he always hated his brother and would never want to be under his command again, Molt also questions Hopper's whereabouts but Flik explained that he is long gone.

Right when it starts to rain, Hopper becomes exactly like a predator when he growls in rage at the sight of Flik. Hopper is so determined to kill Flik for thwarting his plans, motivating his colony and driving his minions away that he launches himself directly at him. And as he chases Flik and Atta, you can see Hopper is fixated on snatching and killing Flik. Then, right at the bird's nest, you feel fear as Hopper starts strangling Flik before the bird (despite being a predator too) saved Flik on time. Hopper did deserve to die for everything he's done.
