  • This is the first ever activation of Juniper Peak in Washington State W7W/LC-014. I used my Icom IC-705 on ssb for this activation and made contacts all the way into New York from Washington State on 10 watts! This is an activation that should be on your list if you're in this area. It's hard to believe it hadn't already been activated.

The anchor bag. I love this idea! I have been wanting to do something very similar. I was just up at Steamboat and West Twin just south of that. Looks like a good summit. - Jeff (KK7DAK)

There’s a few more summits in the GP that are still on my list.

What a stunning location. Did you 3d print your radio cage / screen protector?

I bought it on Etsy. I can't remember from whom, but enter "IC-705" into the Etsy search bar and there are a lot of cool accessories.

Nice job! Do you use a dipole or an EFHW? Also, how high is your pole?

I used my EFHW for this activation. The mast is the Sotabeams Carbon 6 and the section the wire rests on puts the apex about 16 feet off the ground.

One thing I haven't seen anyone else mention is that protective cover you have for your 705, the orange thing. Did you make that or buy it? Can you tell me more about it?

I bought it on Etsy. I don’t really like it as it adds a lot of size and weight to an already relatively large and heavy SOTA rig. I stopped using it months ago. I ended up just getting a protective face cover that straps in place with a velcro strap.

What are you using to hold up/support the telescopic mast at the base?

Nothing! It’s perfectly balanced from the top. I don’t even remove the bottom cap.

Was that a Sotabeams pole you had there? Where can I buy those really compact travel poles? 73 VK4QP

It's the sotabeams Carbon 6. I'm really happy with it! www.sotabeams.co.uk/carbon-6-ultra-light-6-m-19-6-ft-mast/
