No joke I ended up subbing because I invariably find myself coming back to this channel when looking for more in-depth information about Corsair's products. You're doing their work for them. Like still to this day I have no idea what the "ID Header" does on the Core XT, and searching on Corsair's own website yields NO information on it. Crazy.

Thanks for the very informative video! I recently upgraded from an i5 2500k w/ air cooling to an i7 12700k w/ the Corsair H100i Elite Capellix and bought a 3 pack of the LL120s. I was debating on adding 2 more LL140s and was trying to figure out where I would hook up the 7th fan to, this video set my mind at ease.

Mind sharing how you connected your h150i to the commander pro xt? There's a 24 pin connector on the h150i that only seems to connect to the included commander core, so I had to go with only one xt and return the other. I would have much rather used both xt's though!

@@AegonVI It's not possible to power the H150i from a Commander Core XT. I used the Commander Core that came with the H150i and a Commander Core XT. Those two Commanders are basically the same aside from the connector for the H150i pump. Altogether, I connected 10 ML120 RGB Elite fans, as well as the 2 fans that were included with the 5000D Airflow case, and everything works great.

    Another great video!
Using the Visor effect I'm getting about a 10 second delay in the LED sequence between my Commander XT and Commander Core. I have 10 QL fans, four running off the Commander Core from the AIO and the other six off the Commander XT. Going from the XT to the Core or vice versa there is a pause of about 10 seconds in the LED sequence from one fan to the next going either direction. Don't know if it matters but I also have 128GB (4x32GB DIMMs) of Corsair Dominator Platinum RAM. At first I though the sequence was jumping to that but it doesn't appear to be.

    • @HardwareArtisan
      @HardwareArtisan  Рік тому +1

Hi BP, thanks for the feedback, i'm happy you are finding the videos helpful. I've had this happen to me exactly as you've described, where it appears there is a delay in the sequence. In I think every case, it's always been that it's firing to another chain of RGB that I didn't have installed.....too much messin around, haha!
I would start with checking your CORE and CORE XT for any other RGB chains. Check if you have 3 pin lighting effects enabled/configured...and disable that (assuming you don't have any 3 pin lighting effects)....that will cause this as it will send signals for those devices.
If that's not it, i'd just double check the CORE And CORE XT have properly detected the right amount of fans and the right type.
Update iCUE to the latest, restart your PC and if nothing else is working. Personally, i'd clear the config on the controller and reset it up. I think i'd remove the RGB connections, just pull them out of the connection, then rerun the wizard with nothing in there. Then re-add them and rerun the wizard and double check.
Here is the firing order for Visor to the best of my knowledge.....
KB -> Mouse -> RGB mouse pad -> Lighting Node Pro -> Lighting Node Core -> Commander Pro -> Commander Core -> RAM -> External Ambient Lighting (LS100, LT100, ST100).
I think the CORE XT is right after the CORE, or before, I cannot recall, I need to go revisit that, might be a good short-ish video to do.
The RAM should be last in that sequence if you have the lighting configured....
If that doesn't do it, reinstall icue perhaps. I'll try and go retest the order of that effect, let me know what you find!
      Good luck, keep having fun!!!

1, 2 and 3 ports for AiO fans.
Two fans for port 4 and two fans for port 5 by means of splitters.
To the sixth port, the rear fan.

Thanks for the video, very informative and easy to understand. Do you know if I can use the RGB hub to control the RGB for non-fan RGB devices; say like the RGB for a pump or reservoir or even just an led strip?
My idea being to use the Commander XT to control my fans, both speed and RGB, and then connecting the RGB hub to the XT and use that hub to control other non-fan lighting (with those non-fan devices being powered elsewhere). Or does it only control corsair fan RGB?

    • @HardwareArtisan
      @HardwareArtisan  2 роки тому +1

Hi Tambo Biscuits, great questions. The RGB hub is meant to specifically be a FAN Hub. it's a 4 pin connection and I've not tested making any conversions from that to non-fan RGB devices.
The core XT has an RGB ports, which is corsairs 3 pin connector, to which you can directly attach Corsairs RGB strips and a few other devices.
I did a video on using a conversion cable on this port which would allow you to connect it to a more standard RGB hub to control other devices. It's not a perfect solution however.
You could also gain more of these 3 pin ports with the Lighting node Pro, which has two of them.

Man, I needed this video like 2 weeks ago, built out a 5000D Airflow, 12 LL series fans, plus an XD5 and an XC7.
Corsair's "documentation" is garbage, when it exists at all. Still watching the video, but I ended up with one XT, one commander core, and one lighting node. The node has the XC7 and XD5, the rest is going through the XT and the core. Then I ditched iCUE for SignalRGB, cause iCue is so limited.

Awesome content! Been watching your videos and have a Q. I have the 500 tower case, 4 corsair LL fans (where im putting 2 in the front bottom for intake and 2 on my 240 AIO) and then 3 corsair white LED fans that im putting on the radiator mount just like you did on your 500 build. I have the core XT and the hub that came with the LL kit. Can i run the white LED corsair fans with that hub? What would you suggest for best setup?

    • @HardwareArtisan
      @HardwareArtisan  Рік тому

Hi Daniel Christmas, thanks for watching!!! The 3 white LED fans will just be DC controlled fans if my recollection is correct, these 3 fans only have a 3 pin connector. The Hub that comes with the LL kit for the lighting node pro is only for RGB fans (4 pin RGB) and does not power the fan itself, PWM OR DC. You can plug them into the 4 pin PWM connectors on the Core XT which will power the fan and the LED. With the CORE XT, you will get no speed control on the DC fans, they will run at full speed.
I think what I would do is skip the HUB, it won't benefit you in this case. Buy a set of PWM splitter cables. You can plug this cable into one of 4 pin PWM ports on the CORE XT and then plug in your 3 white LED fans to the 3 connections. This should work great, these 3 fans will be full speed, but in most cases that's ok.
This leaves you the 5 other PWM ports for you 4 RGB fans.
You can buy the cables here from amazon (8.49 as I write this) (i've used these cables, they work good)
Cable Matters 2-Pack 3 Way 4 Pin PWM Fan Splitter Cable - 12 Inches

    • @HardwareArtisan
      @HardwareArtisan  2 роки тому

Hi Diadem37's Garage, great question. I think you are asking if you can use a PWM splitter on the CORE XT's fan header for power....Yes, I have done this to add a couple of more fans to it. I wouldn't recommend going overboard with that though.
Corsair for some reason doesn't list a specification for the total power output for the fan headers on the CORE XT, I've looked.
The Commander PRO does have that specification and it's as follows....1A per port (4.5A combined). If we take for example that an LL120 fan has a 0.30A power draw, we can safely get 2 fans per port, you could probably get 3, but I wouldnt add more than 2 per port. I'd personally only add a couple more fans in total across the entire controller which I've done with no issues, I used PWM splitter cables.
I have to assume the CORE XT's specs are similar to the Commander PRO, but I can't be certain.
I've not fully tested with adding more than a couple fans to it for any length of time, so take any advice here at your own risk, but i'd add 2 additional fans total without any worries. Thats for the whole controller, so adding 8.
Thanks for the question, let me know if that didn't quite answer your question!!! Thanks for Watching!

I decided to get 7 QL120’s, Corsair iCUE H150i Elite cooler because it comes with a Commander Core, and a Commander Core XT! I believe the XT along with the standard commander core should be enough for a 3 rgb fan water cooler along with 7 rgb fans right?

Thanks for the feedback Collin Pleasant!!! Yes, a Commander CORE and CORE XT together is a great way to get control of your 10 fans, both RGB and power/speed control. It will also give you some fan expandability along with 2 temp probes and the RGB port on the XT if you decide to sync some other RGB with it. Check out the video on syncing non-corsair RGB using that port and a cheap adapter cable if that suits your build at all.

As some one who just did a build with 10 Corsair QL which included two XTs and the Commander Core and way too many fan cables (10x2=20), I'm far happier with 10 Lian Li AL120s. I still have the Commander Core from the H150i but I now only have ONE fan controller and eight fan cables, three cables going to the mobo AND I was able to put my HDD cage back in because I had an 8TB HDD to install. I had to remove it to fit the controllers. It took so many hours of cable management and figuring out how to best connect the controllers. I also saved $220 after returning all the corsair stuff; $520 for the corsair, $300 for the Lian Li. And the Lian Lis look so much nicer. Sure I don't have as much glow from the side light rings on the QLs but when looking at the finished job, I could not ignore all the dead spots of the Corsair fans (LLs do it too but not as much). The Lian Lis have a steady glow and I'm not distracted by the LEDs under the fan. They also get pretty bright. Lian Lis also work with Signal RGB. And the specs of the AL120s are so much better. And "visor", what Lian Li calls "scan" works across all sets. No I'm not a Lian Li salesman, maybe a fan boy now, but do check them out for you next build. There is more that they can do. They really solve all the gripes I have with the Corsairs.

Hi GiSWiG, Thanks for the excellent insight on your experiences with Lian Li AL120's and the Corsair Fans. All are very valid points. I have a set of al120 fans here, but i've never done a build with them, perhaps i'll do a comparison video. I have used some Lian Li components in the past, mainly the Strimer series power cables.....Simply Amazing!!! I've no doubt the AL120 fans will hold up to the same standard as those cables.
I've always liked Corsair, but I have no affiliation with them and will totally check out some AL120 Fans and their ecosystem.
Thanks for taking the time to bring us some new insights!! And thanks for watching!

@@HardwareArtisan I should mention some cons but really only after having used the Corsair fans. You don't have the ability to layer effects like in iCUE. You can't create a solid color base layer and then add a spiral layer on top of that and in the case of QL and LL fans, you don't have the control of the outer ring. But I really don't have time to deal with all that. Regardless of Corsair or Lian Li, SignalRGB can do some great lighting effects easily. With the ALs, I can pass control of the lighting to the motherboard with the flip of a switch, literally. I haven't played around with it yet but I think I can use the ASUS Aurora Creator and control the fans that way. I don't think the software will tie in my EVGA GPU like SignalRGB. I also now have 2 8TB HDDs installed, something that I just didn't have the room for with all the Corsair control boxes. And something else that just I just experienced, I removed the tray with three ALs on it by disconnecting ONE cable, slid the tray with three fans attached completely out of the case with no cables attached. Now will Corsair do the same thing with future fans? Probably, unless the concept is patented by Lian Li, which I don't think they can? IDK. If you ever do a review, be sure to bring those points up.

@@Blash1 I got the Corsairs at Best buy because they were on sale but returning to BB is much easier, even on-line orders. I don't know if they have the Lian Li's but you can get those on Amazon. Now of course, you can get the Lian Li Infinity fans so now you have side illumination. Really, if you pay attention to YT reviews of the fans that have high quality cameras (no offense Hardware Artisan) you can see how well the light diffuses in both fans. I think you'll like the Lian Li's. They can be controlled by their included fan hub or can be passed through from the motherboard. The Corsairs are not bad, just didn't work well for me, especially with the now 13 AL 120 fans in my case (excessive?). Its a total of 10 cables for those. 13 Corsair fans would be 26 cables.

Hi Douglas Sells, Great question. Corsair does make a 6 port RGB hub...This Hub comes with some of the fan kits, it comes with the "Lighting Node PRO" This can be connected to the CORE XT for additional RGB ports it connects to the 3 pin RGB port of the CORE XT, or the 3 pin RGB port on the commander PRO.
You can also buy this hub seperately, check it out here on corsairs site (10 bucks)
      www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Custom-Cooling/Accessories/CORSAIR-RGB-Fan-LED-Hub/p/CO-8950020
In addition, you can also use a Lighting node CORE which also comes with many of the fan kits and serves the same purpose, the difference is the RGB HUB (above), needs to connect to the commander (PRO or XT) using a cable. The lighting node core is a complete controller.
Both do the same thing though, the only downside is neither gives you any PWM speed/power control over the fan, you will need to use motherboard headers, external PWM hub....or simply add a second CORE XT.
I hope that helps, thanks for taking the time to post the question, and thanks for watching!!!

Only thing I had problems with was with the xt. I have 6 LL120s and the 3 ML120s. When using the core xt and the commander core that came with the capellix, fans would stay at a normal fan curve until I opened any application. I see you have all the fans set to a 0 rpm, was wondering if when you were to turn the fans to the normal cooling preset if they all took off to 100% and ran at 2200rpm or if they stayed at around 1200. Because I tried uninstalling and reinstalling icue to see if maybe there was an issue there but all fans, even the LL120s I had hooked up to the commander core took off to 100% and I had all the cooling presets to quiet. I dont know if it was because I had the 9-pin usb plugged into the core xt or what, but I had to end up switching everything back over to using the commander core and a lighting node in order to get the fans to run at a RPM that wasnt going to sound like a jet engine.

Hi Strifethor, Yes, you can certainly daisy chain the CORE into the CORE XT's USB pigtail, but is not required to do that. The only reason to do that is that it's an available USB header. iCUE doesn't depend on these being daisy chained like this. As long as the two controllers make a USB connection to the system, it will work fine and you will be able to control all your fans, pumps and LCD. You could use two motherboard USB headers, or a powered USB hub and get the same results. The CORE XT's USB pigtail is just convenient. I hope that makes sense, great question.

I could remove the Lighting Node PRO and plug the Lighting Node CORE into one of the two LED Ports on the Commander PRO and was wondering would this work to control all Fan Speeds and their RGB?
In theory it should work, I would of gone with the XT but I wasn't a fan (pardon the pun) of that USB part with the passthrough and didn't want loads of USB cables trailing across my case, and by using the Commander PRO, it would be 1 less USB cable trailing across my case and also have a spare USB if I wanted to add more later on.

Hi @peterjofoldi5266, by commander, do you mean the commander CORE, or the CORE XT? Since you mentioned non-corsair RGB, I have to assume it's the CORE XT as the CORE doesn't have a port for this. Power off your PC and disconnect the 'commander' and then reconnect it and try again.

You have everything you need to get this setup, that's the good news!! Here is how I would do this....That case comes with a lighting node pro(Controller and HUB), I'd start with removing the controller, But you will be using the RGB FAN HUB that came with it so leave that part in place.
You WON't need either of the lighting node CORE's, you can set all those aside.
I would connect your commander PRO into a USB header and power. Then, connect the Commander Core that came with your AIO into one of the two USB headers on the PRO (Or motherboard, it doesn't matter). Connect the SATA Power for the CORE and the HUB as well.
I believe for the VISOR effect, the Commander PRO goes first, then the Commander Core, so.....Consder going in this order.
Plug the RGB FAN HUB into channel 1 on the Commander PRO
In the RGB hub, connect the first 6 FANS, I usually start with the front facing bottom fan as #1, plug them in order 1-6 to the HUB. Then plug in the PWM Power connections to the PRO's PWM ports 1-6 in the same order.
For the remaing 2 fans, plug them into the Command CORE, both RGB and PWM, into ports 1 and 2
(You can change the order within each device seperatately if needed later, but you will want the first 6 in the PRO and the last 2 in the CORE)
Then connect the AIO to the CORE's 24 pin port.
That should get you close, if not right on, but before you zip tie it all up, if possible, test it in iCue with VISOR to see if it all fires in the order you want, the other effects don't really matter, but if needed make a change at this point.
OPTIONAL, you could consider this.....you have only 8 FANS.......You could get rid of the PRO.....Plug the first 6 fans into Commander CORE along with the AIO, then connect the RGB HUB to Channel 1 on the Lighting node PRO (just like it is in the case initially) and plug the remaining 2 fans in ports 1 and 2 on the HUB. This leaves you looking for PWM connections for the remaining 2 fans, you can use motherboard 4 pin headers, or buy a PWM HUB (cheap), or splitter cables to split 1 of the ports on the CORE into 3 PWM connections, that would work. (This option would be cheaper and less clutter in the case) You lose the ability to add more temp probes, but that may not matter to you.
Alternatively, ditching the PRO and replacing it with a CORE XT (similar to the CORE) allows you to get rid of the RGB hub altogther and give you a couple temp probes.
I hope that gives you some further ideas, let me know if I can help.....Above All, Have fun with it, it will make more sense after you start messing around with it.
Good luck with the build, let me know how it turns out!
      Thanks for Watching!
