The key to the harsh tone here; roll down the pick up height, and these ceramic are all good!. 😉

I set all Strats fully floating and I love thin bridge blocks as they allow you to dive to pure mush. A big huge block doesn’t allow any real movement.

I agree. That sustain with the big block is in peoples head.

Great video! So is it good? Should I buy this to my son as an xmas gift? +katana 50 mk2. Do frets need work?

I have other videos on this & I'm sorry to say I am very disappointed. It only has a one way truss rod & mine has a slight back bow. I had to do a fret level as it had horrible buzz. I also had to route the body out to put a blade switch in. Also the aftermarket pickups would not fit the scratch plate & I had to file 1/16" wider & 1/32" high to fit them. But the worst was the bridge they milled it on an angle so when you dumped the bar it rocked to one side so I had to re-mill it. The tuners are terrible at turning freely. I had to replace the nut as they cut it wrong. I would stay away from the series. I bought a Rock Jam from Amazon that had less fret buzz with the same type for tuners. The neck has a 12" radius dual truss rod & after a setup & filing the nut & removing the Rock Jam logo it is of better quality. It also has a full thickiness body. I'm not a fan of the Katana's but if you get one I would go for the Artist if your budget allows. If not the Katana MKII sounds good. Both take pedals well but I found I didn't like it with fuzz. If he's not into fuzz you're good. I would check my other videos out on this guitar. I'm non-bias & none of my videos are sponsored. I buy all my own gear & everything I say is just my opinion & experience. I hope this helps you make a informed decision. I wish you a Merry & Blessed Christmas & hope whatever you get your son he really enjoys it :)

I just had mine. Contrary to your experiences Mine is ok. All the problems you encountered I did tenfold with all the Harley Bentons til now. I just quit Harley Benton overall, because all 4 I had needed major fret level jobs, intonation, action hight, the trem plate is about half as thick as normal. Look at my channel for the Harley Bend-ons.

I'm guessing God had mercy on me this time. I am very grateful for that too. Especially after 2 Squier's. I wanted an SG & was at a shop. The Epiphone there had horrible fret buzz & the factory finish was terrible. I was worried about the HB tbh so I guess I'm wrong on them. I will have a look at your channel. I'm glad you had better luck with this one then me. I can't see how anyone can possibly put out bad guitars these days the way they make them. Even the Gibson's over a 1K & junk.

Maybe I missed it but are the fret ends smooth. That’s always a deal breaker for me.

I strongly recommend looking at the Harley Benton guitars. You pay $88 for shipping but you can buy 2 guitars & shipping is still $88 & you'll have it in 4 days. By all means stay away from the Fender Sonic. Unless you want to overpay & have to replace the pickguard or file out the one that comes with it for aftermarket pickups & route the body for a blade switch after the circuit board one goes. And that's if you're lucky not to get one that doesn't have a bridge milled crooked or a natural back bowed neck that can't be straightened because it has a single trussrod. Also the body is not full thickiness. You're far better off here: www.thomannmusic.com/st_models.html?manufacturer%5B%5D=Harley%20Benton&gk=GIEGST&cme=false&filter=true & don't be afraid to buy a B Stock. HB gives a 3 year warranty opposed to Sweetwater.

Typical squier wiring. I paid 430 plus tax for a Squier classic 70's vibe and it didn't look any better inside then your sonic with dime pots, crappy wiring and imported switch. Gutted it out and replaced it with a beautiful custom preload pickguard with a tone pot blender and what a difference. Nice warmer sound then the ceramic pickups.

Damn... That's a shame! Fender really needs to address what they're doing wrong. For the price you paid that should've been loaded with full size pots & routed a lot better. My Affinity Strat looks great but it's so damn heavy I rarely play it.
