Instead of a 5 gal. bucket you should try to find an old cooler so it keeps the ice for awhile without melting. Just a thought !

      Sorry Mel about your loss.
But It got me thinking, when I had rabbits many years back I had hung a salt / mineral wheel for the rabbit to use as it needed, not sure if it’s still a think nowadays but I thought I’d mention it.

For the rabbits; you may want to get some solar powered fans. With the AK humidity, the ice bottles may not be enough when you have a fur coat on 😁 I see fans a lot at the county fairs keeping lots of different species comfortable

I'm looking at that empty space below the water bucket shelf and thinking if Gary built a 'closet' there, you could store feed & supplies. Great watering system. Can't wait to see what he builds for a grow out pen to put the freezer chickens in. Guess it will be to the left of the bunny hutches. P.S. Those trees that are growing that have fern like branches, are a real pain. Get rid of them sooner than later. They grow tall fast & topple with windy rain storms (and this is in NJ) let alone your mountain top winds! Boy, you all are really homesteading this summer, it's fun to watch.

I used a plastic barrel to hold a gravity fed watering system for my chickens. I drilled a hole in the barrel to fit a pull through tubeless valve stem and stretched the tubing over the valve stem. Then I connected it to a low pressure waterer.

Have you thought of creeping juniper for your terrace banks? You can just plant them by punching holes in the plastic and leave the plastic ground cover in place. They will cover those banks in abt 2 years. They are pretty green. No blooms on them. They just creep over the area and hold your soil in place. We put down plastic, covered it with rocks about 2 in in diameter, larger then you have presently. The bank looked great. Or try ivy but remember ivy is harder to control than shrubs.

We say use it up, wear it out,or do without. My 17yr.old grandson and I just built a 2ft fence to keep our Pomeranian pup in the yard when he is out with us. He gets in trouble if he is not confined. We used old pallet wood and left over fencing and 4x4's ,so our fence didnt cost us anything.

Go under one feeding the water ,, then the nipeles will come up from the bottom of the cage. The water will come down from your bucket through a hose with three nippels. One for each box section , through the wired floor so each rabbits will be watered from one hose

What's good is if the meat birds get too big too fast you can use that wire and put it around the bottom of the rabbit hutches and grow them out separately so they will be easier to catch in a month or so.

Sorry about Babs. It happened to our Jack, as well. But Jack was in his hutch for 8 years. He was my daughter's rabbit, but I cared for him for years when my daughter went to law school. I felt just like you do about Babs, and I'm the dad, so we get attached. I just hope Jack knows how much I cared for him!

If you put two pieces of plastic j channel on the front door you can cut two plywood pieces as a double door slider style to slide between the j channels. This way in freezing winter you can provide protection from freezing winds. Also cover the back vents with bad winter storms. On nice winter days You can adjust the doors to open a little or a lot so the rabbits can enjoy the sun and warmer weather. I also used heavy rubber food bowls for water as I could pop out the ice block and provide warm water every day in the rubber bowl. The rabbit didn't chew it. I also made an automatic feeder by creating a wooden chimney style shape and placing a wooden slant board in it and a wooden tray on the bottom. I used like 1x6s. This way I could be away for a weekend and Jack was well fed. In winter I used the deep hay approach as 1/2 the hutch had four wood sides with a side rabbit door to the caged floor. Inside his wooden box there was an upper loft for him to lay on. He was much cleaner with room to escape the manure. I cleaned that straw area every couple of weeks.

I would have put the "ledge" for the 5 gallon buckets on the back of the hutches so the rainwater can be caught and used to water the bunnies. The the "plumbing" (not wires) can be easily run to each cage. Either thru the top of the water bottles or thru a nippler.

Get some wood scraps and a sheet of plastic and make a catch tray under the hutches so you can collect fertilizer for your gardens. If you bury a section of 1/2" or 3/4" pvc pipe down the middle of the garden boxes and drill 1/8" holes down the length you can put a holding tank at the end of the garden boxes and mix the droppings with water and let it gravity feed into the roots. You can do the same with a bag of worm castings sold at a garden shop, it's what they use in some hydroponic systems. Rabbit droppings will do the same thing. Fill a 5gal bucket and mix with a paint mixer in a drill then fill the holding tank and let if feed the plants.

Should put some vertices bracing on the house side of your water bucket shelf
