Can Uganda's economy withstand aid cuts? | ON THE SPOT

- The World Bank announced yesterday that they would be cutting all future financing destined for Uganda in a bid to protect the multilateral lender’s policies. This move, destined to exert pressure on Uganda’s meager public resources, was in response to the recent passing of the Anti-Homosexuality Act. For his part, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has remained firm that Uganda will grow with or without aid but left room for negotiation with the lender.
On The Spot we ask, can Uganda withstand the financial pressure that comes with dealing away with World Bank money?

I see only one economist here, the other is a politician
I find Dr. Muhumuza’s response informative, well thought-out and measured, I wish the majority of our leaders took the same kind of approach, before embarking on policy formulation.
The Country is deep in a financial crisis and yet, its political leaders and some of the elite pretend it’s not.
Lack of discipline characterised by a bloated State house, a bloated Parliament, bloated Local Government coupled with endemic corruption means public expenditure is simply too high relative to available revenue.
Uganda cannot do without borrowing to bridge the gap, never mind what the leader says.
Thank you Dr Fred Muhumuza
Yes uganda can stand without aid. Please lets embrace out independence. Aid ngos please pack and leave.
Germany‘s economy produces 104 times more than the Ugandan economy.
But MPs in Uganda get approximately the same salary as the MPs in Germany.
The Uganda government should downsize all it expenditures according to the production of the Ugandab economy.
Let's learn, let's try to live with in our own means. Why should we depend on loans??.
Reduce government expenditures especially supplementary budgets and corruption
Frugality should be included with budgeting.
Why should we negotiate with an evil just leave them and move on
Dr. Muhumuza & your colleague , It's true we have money in this country.Proper usage is most needed and mandatory, eg cut size of both cabinet, MPs, and may be others you know, as we wait for "our" "oil".
Oil you say😅
Enos lyantonde trusted you but different is similarity with kakooza 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
I've liked the presentation, there's alot that can be picked up for further discussion and integration in the ongoing plans and proposals
We have idiots as MPs. You can't say you are weeding, and then at the same time, you say you aren't against weeds. Today, what should be from a person of an MP is to look into our expenditures as a government.
I don't see why you have to plead with these people let's leave them and be independent. China to develop it stood on its own.
Dr .FM I have liked the way you are analysing economic issues.your matters are so serious. I wish the president can insight from the debate to at least negotiate key issues in the law .Am business importer but we a sweating due to rise in dollar rate.
Don’t Africa have everything the world needs. Why don’t other African countries assist Uganda
Dr. Muhumuzu & colleague, personally I may, in future wish to contribute through you, but, how.
World Bank need Uganda because its business.kati oyo omusajja ayogera alinga alaga batuwa sente zabwerere.Batwetaga.jukira Africa ebadukako.doller egwa buli lunaku.musime Gold wafe.
Why the west don’t leave Africa alone
Economist?
I can’t believe the arrogance of these Ugandans. Well let’s see how Uganda will manage without loans. We in Kenya we cannot allow our government to play with development in this competitive global economy.
Well growth comes with hardships
We can't bend down for white people let's skip meals but have a better upbringing our motto is for God and my country 🙌
@@joelseer5474 You need health too. You can’t just make up stories about homosexuals and then be prepared to have ignorant poor people suffer in the name of our country. I lived in Dubai for 2 years and there were homosexuals there. Most Ugandans are just good pretenders. Nobody at the world Bank is losing sleep over your decisions.
Biblical bomosexuality. Is wrong.
