Here's a little walkthrough some decks I found while cleaning a closet, plus some memories from my early tarot days. Find me: curiousjourneyt... Book a reading: etsy.com/shop/c...
I have the Inner Child cards and it’s in that same packaging. You’re correct, the packaging has changed. You should keep the Shakespearean tarot just so you can explain the problems with the particular cards that bother you. I found it fascinating. I have a vaguely similar story regarding my exposure to my first deck. My mother was raised by her grandmother who practiced hoodoo, or something similar, apparently. My mother struggled with what she was taught as a child and her attempts to be a “good Christian” for years as an adult. A new friend of hers knew how to read tarot but had been upended and didn’t have a deck. My mother sent my 11 year old self into the only place in town that had tarot cards: the Waldens bookstore in the mall. She waited in the car because she couldn’t be seen purchasing a tool of Satan. 🙄 The friend performed a reading for her but my mother kept the cards. Her conscience swung _ after_ the reading and she told me to put them in a brown paper bag and throw them away in the garbage can outside of the house. It was the first time in my life that I felt compelled to disobey my mother. The artwork on the cards was so beautiful, it literally took my breath away. I had never had such a visceral response to anything like it in my life. I stood by the garbage can for several minutes simply staring at the cards as I shuffled through them. Decades later, I _still_ want that deck. Unfortunately, I have no idea which one it was, but I suspect it was a standard Rider-Waite deck. I’m sure some of my fascination at the time was simply the newness of tarot cards in general but I wish I knew for sure.
Oh my gosh I love the Celtic wisdom tarot so much. It's just beautiful. Something about older decks get me. So much info in the book. I just found out my heritage recently from DNA and I'm 60% English the rest Scottish/Welsh and then Norwegian 😂 I always connected with my Norwegian roots even though I didn't know for certain. Anyways I went on a tangent. It's so fun learning new things. Thanks I'll have to look into getting that deck
You're absolutely right about the Devil card. Any interest I might have had in this deck was transmuted into disdain at that moment. And yes, Iago would have been a much more appropriate choice.
I think that one is lost to the ages... I can't even begin to imagine where I put it. I also had the Buckland Romany tarot, and I remember disliking it and shoving it into a closet and eventually throwing it out... eeek! If only I'd known.... I'll never do that again.
Hello, loved this review. Found it very interesting. Of course discovered many decks I know nothing about. What's the name for the deck with the 'Fairy Tales' with the back side is Blue with a sun in the center of the card. Do like that one alot. Do agree with you, sticky decks are not pleasant to use.
Loving your videos, Tom! Here, I'm especially enjoying your critique of the Shakespearian Tarot... & agree with your sense of the missed opportunities here... and some of the ways in which the deck is actually offensive (Justice and the Devil). I'm a theater nerd too - and actually a Shakespearean of sorts... so I'm pretty snobby on this topic ;) I don't own this deck - am holding out for a copy of Luigi Scapini's "Shakespeare Tarot" (Tarocchi di Giuletta e Romeo)-- which I'm sure will also annoy me but he's so wild and quirky, and the deck is rare enough and pip-ish, so I'm thinking it will be worth it... ANYWAY - thanks for sharing. I'm so glad I found your channel.
+Mindful Tarot Thanks for that! And yes to those problem cards. Oh it's so frustrating. I'd love to see a really amazing theatre-themed tarot. I think that could be gorgeous.
