- In this footage from the National Geographic Society archives, President John F. Kennedy presents the first "White House Book," a guidebook published about the White House. This book was created in collaboration between First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy and the National Geographic Society, which was approached by the Historical Association to produce it as a public service. The presentation ceremony was filmed by National Geographic Society staff photographers R.G Fleegal and D.S. Boyer.

@@Kayte-tv2cw Same for me. It was a very eventful nearly three years filled with exciting achievments(first Americans in space for example, scary crises, like Berlin when American and Soviet tanks were just a few feet apart and no one from that era will ever forget Cuban missile crisis.

@@theblakex you have no clear evidence that John F kennedy. Cheated on Jackie, there’s no type of evidence. The only thing there is is woman claiming that happened. When there most likely lying. Don’t believe everything you see. It seems as if he loved her she was the mother of his children, his wife. He loved her and you weren’t there in there time period you we will never know if he cheated on her. And plus even if he did back then that was fine. It was very normal. They have both passed on and are no longer with us. So don’t speak negative towards them.

Jackie did a great job restoring the White House. You can tell the way Jackie looked at JFK that she had a great love for him. May they both Rest In Peace. He never took a salary. Real public service.

JFK ........the best speaker and president.
He was superb as a speaker. However, I would put the 40th President ahead of him. Although they were equals in this regard, President Reagan I thought had a better command of the audience and the camera. Just my opinion.
Not actually a good speaker, but acceptable. Not fluid, but always peppering his talks with "ahs." Reagan was actually really good by comparison.

Why do you think it still hurts Matt? Our future and the course of human events were altered, changed from hope to something that was unrecognizable. It was a Brief Shining Moment. It never was Camelot, in the words of Larry F. O’Brien “it was hard work everyday for 12-16 hours a day. We knew there were problems, but this notion of Camelot, I didn’t sense it, it just was hard work, we were committed to it.” Matt, it was never the same after 22 November 1963, and it never will be.
@@davidpallin772 I always felt that when JFK died, it was like one of those sci fi movies where someone goes back in time and changes history and comes back to the present and the present is a degraded society.

As a family we went to Washington DC and we visited the White House - I bought one of these "books" for $l.00. It is a National Geographic special edition and really isn't a book but a magazine. I was 13 years old in 1962 and I still have this magazine - when starting to go into the White House I plucked some plant leaves from the White House ground - they looked like ivy or something and I taped them down and put them into this "book". They are still there.

Yes it goes without saying that JFK had definite issues with monogamy. However this cannot take away from the fact that he and Jacqueline made an absolutely beautiful couple, aesthetically speaking.

Fascinating to see this after watching the MSNBC documentary "The Way I See it" on Obama WH photographer, Pete Souza (a MUST see!). He recounted a touching story of buying this book as a young man, only to go on to become a WH photographer - something beyond his wildest dreams.
I was walk around work imitating jfk from clone high and i wonder what jfk actually sounded like.

In watching videos of JFK standing while giving speeches, I have noticed that he shifts around a lot at times. I imagine in those moments, he was dealing with considerable pain from his back, but never let on to the public. His left leg was shorter than his right by nearly a half inch, which was also debilitating and his White House physician, Dr. Janet Travell, had shoe lifts made for JFK to help alleviate that problem.
JFK had a back injury from World War 2 when his PT-109 craft was hit by a Japanese Navy Destroyer that cut the PT boat in half. President Kennedy never received the Purple Heart for this incident. The Navy X-Ray technician who took the autopsy photos said President Kennedy had extensive arthritis at the lumbar 4 and 5 vertebrates.

I have the National Geographic issue with this very event covered. Dean Conger's pics are always the best and his pic in this book of the White House, Capitol dome and the Washington Monument -- which he got atop a fire truck's extended ladder -- was an "only Dean Conger" accomplishment.

You can imagine the people on the fringes of power who harbored I'll will towards JFK out of deep seeded jelousey. They pailed around him. They became like withering weeds denied the sun. I was very young but I glowed in that light.

I was born in 1951. In my opinion, despite his flaws, President Kennedy was our last “real” President. We could use his wisdom today. I am greatly saddened that it is doubtful that I will never see the likes of him again in my lifetime.
@@Kayte-tv2cw You see Kayte, that is the tragedy of this awful story. You only a couple years older than me. We had our John F. Kennedy, and he was taken from us by something so evil and powerful. Robert F. Kennedy knew who did this to his brother, it was people in high echelons of the US power structure, namely the National Security State and the defense intelligence agencies. LBJ, Hoover and others simply covered the whole nightmare up. Kayte, our lives have been lessened by what occurred in Dallas on 22 November 1963. Thank you for your post.
@@davidpallin772 , You and I think exactly alike regarding who was behind President Kennedy’s assassination. I also believe that RFK knew who was behind the murder of his brother, and would have reopened the investigation into his brother’s assassination had he become President in 1968. @@Kayte-tv2cw Thank you Kayte, it’s going on 58 years and we still don’t know for a moral certainty what happened in Dallas in November 1963. Oswald was a tragic figure who I am convinced had nothing to do with this. Lee Oswald was a low level intelligence operative who was hung out to dry, a cleverly set up fallguy. What did Lee Oswald say at his evening press conference, “I’m just a patsy.” The press and media along with the Dallas DA said Oswald was a deranged communist nut job. Most assassins take immediate acknowledgement for their deeds. Not this guy. Years later, in November 1988, I was watching television with my Dad and TV coverage of the 25th anniversary of President Kennedy’s death was being played on most television programming. While watching this Dad let out a painful sigh and said to me, “what a terrible waste, there was something so wrong that weekend, every happened so fast and it was like it was all planned in advance.” Dad is still alive and I feel his future was stolen from him in a huge way. We were all young in those days of the early 1960’s. The future was bright with this President. Kayte, if you care to, watch on UA-cam Douglas Horne’s presentation on The Medical Evidence and the Autopsy of President Kennedy. It is a series of five parts. Douglas Horne worked for the Assassination Records Review Board in the 1990’s. This was the most honest evidence gathering effort on the President’s murder and involves the shenanigans that went on at the Bethesda Naval Hospital during the President’s autopsy. Spoiler alert, President Kennedy had clandestine post-mortem pre-autopsy surgery done to him by Commander Humes and Commander Boswell to alter all evidence of frontal gunshot wounds and to obliterate all evidence of a rear exit wound to his head. Also all or most of the bullets and bullet fragments were removed. This was done prior to the official autopsy which started at 8:00 pm.Kayte, I swear this will keep you up at night.
@@davidpallin772 , First of all, I am in agreement with you regarding Lee Harvey Oswald’s “role” in President Kennedy’s assassination. I have actually heard of Doug Horne, and have watched some of his videos. But, for some reason, I never heard about the 5 part series that you mentioned. So, thank you for recommending it. My husband has a great interest in the assassination, also. His late father actually helped to coordinate then Senator Kennedy’s visit to Green Bay, Wi. during the Presidential race in 1960, and donated money to his campaign. We just finished watching Part 1 of the 5 part series. I was already aware of many things discussed in Part 1, such as the alterations done to President Kennedy’s skull. If I recall correctly, I read about that in the early 1980’s in David Lifton’s book, “Best Evidence”. However, I also learned many new things regarding the assassination through watching Part 1. There is one thing that I find disturbing. I was already aware that Robert Kennedy had taken control of President Kennedy’s brain tissue at some point, but I have never heard that he destroyed it. I guess I cannot understand the reasoning as to why RFK would actually destroy the brain tissue. My husband has his own theories as to why he might have done that, but I am interested in what you think about that subject? We plan on watching the remaining 4 parts of the Doug Horne videos, whenever we have the time to sit down and really concentrate on the information he discusses. Thanks again.
