Getting ready to do this on my 04 X5 and this is one of the most complete how-to videos I've seen in a long time. Thanks for taking the time to make this!
Very nicely explained video. I own a 2005 BMW X5 and it out of nowhere started overheating. I put water in it but it still gets hot. So I bought both the water pump and thermostat on eBay. After seeing your video I will buy new belts and maybe pulley tensioners as well since they are a part of the same job. I bought it almost a year ago and I guess it's time to do a complete cooling system repair and clean up the system. I love this SUV rides so smooth and very quiet for an old SUV. It has almost 160.000.00 miles on it and it's time to replace a lot of minor stuff. I think I will let the shop fix it as I don't have the patience to do the job myself anymore. But it's looking pretty easy other than the fan clutch..
One of the most detailed video I have the privilege to watch. Great job!
Martin Thompson thank you and thank you for watching!
@@HowtoAutomotive how much a service like that would cost parts and labor ?
Very professional. Thank you.
Greetings from Russia.
Best video I found on this tutorial. Saved me from selling my x5!!
Anthony Morrical glad to help. Thank you for watching!
Great tool hacks! Made the task a breeze
Very good video!!! Thank you for the details and tips 👏🏽👍🏽
Sweet!! Thank you for the very useful video. My sons 2002 X5 had a belt break and it must have broke the waterpump because all of the coolant drained out, also the fan blades are busted. I actually removed the whole radiator after alot of contorting and cursing. didn't know where the water pump was until i found this video. look forward to putting it back together.
Peter Snow it's awesome that you're there for your son to help them out👍🏻 glad the video helped. Thank you for watching!
@how many clips total on the hoses and wire connectors
This video was helpful in me understanding what socket to use to remove tension from the tensioner pully. I was trying T50 based on other videos and it was not working. Now I will try 8MM socket. I have 2006 BMW X5 3.0 that has a bad alternator.
Good job! Thanks!
Súper easy to follow tutorial video, many thanks.
Keep up the good work.
Thank you!

M'Perial Business Group Llc thank you and thank you for watching!
This is the best I have ever seen. Thanks! Will the Bimmerfix fit this 3.0 model and possibly resolve any leakage issue?
Joo Kwon this is the same job on the 2.5 and a 3 L. Thank you for watching in writing!
great video esp the camera angels with macro focus. very helpful even though I have the v8 4.4l which is a little different setup. do you feel that a coolant flush should take place or just add coolant?
Vasilios Karras thank you for watching and writing time. I would just add coolant unless the old coolant has a burnt smell.
2003 BMW X5 4.4i water pump remove with a.c. line in way
What are the symptoms of a bad thermostat
GOOD VIDEO... THANK YOU
Luis Aguero thank you. I see you like super bike racing. I'm a fan to. My cousin Danny Eslick kicks ass!

Fury Voxx glad the video helped. Thank you for watching!
I did this but after putting hose back on the coolant leaks from hose connections. Did I miss a step? Do I need some kind of sealant?
Video was perfect and I followed every instruction. When I start the car with the res cap off. I do not see anything going on inside. How do I test if all I did is working?
Hello Matt. Well the number one way you'll know if you got everything right is when you test drive it The temperature gage Will be right in the middle.. Just be careful not to overfill the coolant bottle. Thank you for writing and watching!
Oh my gosh thank you so much. Looking at all the X5 thermostat videos. I can’t believe how many worthless videos there on the subject. It’s the craziest thing the title will say how to remove the thermostat and then they just show it removed. Is this an ongoing joke that I am unaware of please tell me and thank you. I wanted to know the size of the bolts, and whether I needed to take the bracket off Thankyou.!
I’m not sure why people upload half videos. If it’s a joke, I’m not in on it.. thank you for watching!
needed to ask you a question if the pulley broke that doesn't mean there's damage to the water pump is just the pulley that needs to be replaced and the belt cause the belt also broke please reply ASAP
Very helpful. I have an x5 3.0 2003. Recently my drive belt popped only after 8mnths of replacing it as the mechanic failed to replace the pulleys which drive the belt. when the belt popped it belt broke the water pump and pulley, oil housing unit, idler pulley, steering pump pulley, fan and fan clutch and the mechanical tensioner. Annoyed to say the least.
Atiya J. McFadden wow that's crazy it did all. Sorry to hear. Glad the video helped out. Thank you for writing.
$1500 with me buying all of the parts.
Hola buenas tarde mi vmw X5 me tira el anticongelante del contenedor de resiclado que podría ser ya compré tapa nueva pero Noce por qué tira el anticongelante la bomba es nueva

Hi sir, how much was this service? parts and labor.. im getting hit with a crazy price for the thermo and pump
How much are they trying to hit you with??
can you help me with the timing chain diagram of the same engine? please, bmw x5 3.0 year 2002 (i guess is the same engine)
Rafael Góngora i’ve left the shop for the weekend. But a great way to find information like that is to log on to Alldata/DIY and they have step-by-step instructions and diagrams.
If my belt keep breaking.... Is it the water pump... I replaced the tentioner
good
Thank you!
Can I rent the radiator fan removal tool from autozone or do I have to get that special tool ?
J Equity Group I can’t speak for what tools they have to rent so just give them a call.
I've been in the trade for about 6 years now. I'm just finishing up my level 3 apprenticeship so I'd be able to write my license here in Canada. I'm disappointed and frustrated to say that I no longer have the desire to work in this field even though I initially had passion to learn and do something exciting. Unfortunately this trade is not as rewarding as I'd expected it to be. I've done many repairs on all makes and models including this vehicle and just watching your videos gives me depression as to when I used to work on cars. This is the only real skill I have and invested thousands of dollars on tools and a box but no longer want to pursue it even though I've climbed high up on this mountain. Any advice for a hopeless young man like me?
istishhadi Hello. I too have been frustrated with working in the automotive Field at times. For me finding the right area to work at and the model of cars to work with made things better. Like you the only thing I know is automotive work, so I began teaching what I know through my website and UA-cam channel and has renewed my enthusiasms and passion for working on cars. And it also has substantially made my financial situation a lot better. One thing is also help me out is interacting with the customers and getting to know them instead of just their cars has made a difference also.
How to Automotive
I just want sincerely thank you for your heart felt reply to istishhadi
I hope you all the success on your UA-cam chanel
I appreciate both your replies. It has helped me better deal with my situation
mohammed ali thank you!
istishhadi glad to help. I'll be her if you need any help in anyway.
Is this similar to the 4. 4 L V8? Not sure if it has the same water pump
Matthew Devine it’s very similar. There some small differences but pretty much the same job.
do i have to use OEM water pump? or its okay to used aftermarket
john villas you can use after market. I use after market parts a lot and have good luck
Do you have to retime the motor after you replace the water pump?
Slimer FPV no the Pump has nothing to do with the engine timing
JESUS CHRIST THAT DRILL WAS LOUD!!!! Great video tho 👍🏾
Dang you made it so breeze. Thanks
Any mec in brooklyn that can do this job for me asap?
GREAT FUCKIN VIDEO 👌🏾
Fast Cars thank you!
and it's half my X5 2008 the 4.8 I
Hi Perla. I would recommend the pump most likely that was the cause. But you can take it and shake it and spend it by hand. If the Bearing sounds scratchy or has play replace the pump. Also check all the other police that may cause the belt come off. Sometimes the belt tensioner goes bad and makes the belt jump. Hope this helps
this is a great video. thank you for the help.
