FX6300 user here, since 2015. Cost me cheap-ish with 16 gigs on a Sabertooth 990FX which is a pretty awesome mobo.
    I believe my chip is above average, as I'm getting a 4.3GHz 24/7 stable @ 1.28v. I can go 4.7 @ 1.4v but I don't want to push voltage that high.
I use it for photo editing, video editing, website management and various other tasks including gaming on an RX480. It has never let me down so far and next year I'll be upgrading to a R5 2600 or 3600 as it's kinda slow on the video editing/encoding/rendering part.

I find the lawsuit rather silly since there is first off no standardization for what a multi core processor even is and there have been many design changes over nearly 20 years. Feels like AMD got blamed for people not doing their research and blaming them for trying different CPU designs that did not always work out as the best option in hindsight. I'm not a platform snob, I respect intel and Windows both, I just get weary of the issues that seem to crop up with those two (maybe just my bad luck). My 775, (thanks to Phil's tutorials on updating bios code) is humming right along and is my secondary daily + light gaming machine. When my budget increases in the near future I plan on building a a full Ryzen system with Linux and Windows running strictly in a VM. So I can work and play on the same machine. @AleksSDF Indeed. Other CPU's might be faster, but if you have a good board with M.2 SSD and enough RAM, a FX-8350 still makes a nice system for work or play.
I have mine cooled with a 240mm AIO, so it also runs very quiet. That is the only downside, the FX boxed coolers sound like jet engines when they ramp up. And you need to have beefy VRMs on the board. A cheap AM3 board will barely handle the FX-6300, let alone the 8350. I would reccomend getting a board that is rated to support the FX-9590 with 220W. Even if you only get the 8350, you will have more headroom.

I had many old parts laying around, so I assembled a pc for my HD ready TV in my room. I've had a FX 6300 paired it with old GTX 960 with 450watt PSU. Used the old case had of my main video editing rig. And it plays everything I throw at it. The TV is 50mhz so I put the v sync on and 720p of TV doesn't suck. It's great for Netflix , UA-cam and all the games out there. This sucks with my main 2k monitor. This is just my console replacement.

I picked up a pair of 6300's Mounted on the exact motherboard your using 40 dollars each with the processor.. Sadly No IO shields.. (Found them on Ebay for around 7 dollars for two. Took three weeks to arrive) I Built two full systems with them. One ATX case and one MATX... First thing I ran into was the lack of Fan headers.. Had to use a Fan splitter on the single one on the Motherboard with extentions for the ATX case. I ended up using a Small SSD on each for the Operating system and a 500 or 1TB drive for the rest of the data. GTX 950 cards are dirt cheap so I picked up two of them for under 100 dollars.. They both run great and you can do Pub G and Players unknown on them just fine with high settings.. World of tanks does great also. (And Yes its wise to update the bios on the boards!) You also can add USB 3.0 with a card. They run about 20 dollars and make it nice with cases with the 3.0 plugs.

Running a FX-8370 with a 1080ti. Smooth no issues or need to upgrade since it's build in 2014. Solid 60fps+

I have the same parts, just with a GTX960 instead. It's a nice office PC / entry gaming rig.

Can you use the 40x40mm if it is slightly too large, and not worry about the overhang? I would imagine it's the size to use on Ryzen. Is that correct? The FX6300 OC'd is doing well in the PC I gave my Dad for gaming. Running with a GTX 980 for 1080p 60hz, it's doing well. I built two of them years ago for my parents, because we all wanted to play co-op games, and they needed PC's. They have served us well. Borderlands, CoD, and L4D series all easily run locked on their monitors refresh rate. I have a soft spot as well for them.

I upgraded from a FX6300 (running at 4.0ghz) to a Ryzen 3600 last month. The difference is truly night and day

i have a fx-6350 with ballistix elite 1866 C.L.9 8gb dual-channel kit and clock set to 4.2ghz turbo off using M5A78L/m-usb3 it scores around 515 +/-5 depending on room temp. 4.2ghz is not an excessive overclock with AM3 wraith cooler it does fine still my nephew loves it and does not complain about the 500gb 850evo or evga ftw 750ti!

Curious how this chip stacks up against the old Phenom II X6. My X6 1055 @ 3.85 gets 565 in CB R15.

This makes me miss my FX-6300 PC. It was my first custom built rig and I have fond memories of playing GTA IV well into the night on it. It heated my room in my parent's basement at the time (I was still in highschool then) and it was actually nice in the winter. It's still in use thankfully, it's been handed down to its 3rd owner now and it's still being used for gaming which is honestly cool. Maybe I'm being a bit nostalgic about the short comings of the system, but I had so much fun on it and sometimes playing on a budget system is more fun than an overkill system.
