Excellent point. I also think a lot of people don't realize WHY some of the moves look like they do, or that the original practitioners (slaves) often had their hands bound. I don't consider myself a capoeirista by ANY stretch of the imagination (I can basic kicks, one handstand kick -that I've gotten fairly accurate with- and ginga), but I certainly appreciate the art and its history.
I do love capoeira and I think some of the moves can be very effective even in a street fight scenario and these two capoeiristas are very skilled (I have watched their other videos) but this just cracks me up.
I learned Capoeira from UA-cam and this one guy who cared for me. In addition to the kicks and knees. I was also taught elbows and slaps. Pretty good video btw.
Lmfao this is the greatest. Obviously if you're a capoeirista you can tell these 2 are being satirical. Capoeira is easily one of the deadliest, most well rounded martial arts being the person uses the self defense aspect w respect.
Capoeira is not just a martial arts that focuses on one aspect the some movements might not be as effecient compared to other martial arts that focuses on self defence but that doesnt mean its not uselful the thing with any martial art techniques is you will have to work hard and train hard for it to be effective ofcourse there are no perfect defense but its all in the timing and your speed. Capoeira teaches other aspects and principles too like humility, respect, patience, perserverance, street smarts etc and culture.
Awesome stuff. I think what most people, that do not practice Capoeira, do not understand, is that these techniques are not the EASIEST way to teach a person with no training to defend themselves, but that has never been the point. Capoeira was never about doing things the easiest, or even most effective way. But that is not an issue for a Capoeira practitioner since to us, these moves are simple basic stuff, only applied expertly. Because we do these moves all the time in the Roda.
@aragorio Yes...I believe you can because I have before...just depends on the technique and the application. Some guy tried mugging me at a bus stop and I used Ponteira(very dangerous kick) to his liver and a Meia lua de compasso (Rabo da Arraia) to his head.I walked away and he fell asleep. It just depends on how you train. Hope this helps answer your question.Best of luck, train hard and Axé :)
Sou capoeirista e gostei bastante da apresentação deles, sinto que reapresentou muito a copeira. Um capoeirista muito bom e o Marcos Aurélio ótimo lutador.
@fsgtad Lol, you're the one who wanted to "break this video down," so don't criticize me for pointing shit out. Besides, I brought up legitimate points that you have yet to address. To answer your question, "how would you disguise a fighting style"... you wouldn't. You get a watered-down MA that is full of inefficient dance moves. Can it work? Sure. Every capoeira guy i've seen has been jacked, but they're dangerous in the same way an athletic break dancer is. Show me realistic Cap, plz.
It does make for some great choreography (of course, that depends on the skill of the practitioner) If you don't know who Lateef Crowder is, check out some of his fight scenes!
If I’m on top of a van and a guy is swinging a bat at me without even coming close to hitting me then I’m staying on the van. Why flip off of it just to get beat down with a bat?
If fight clubs were legal everywhere, then ppl could an' would test which techniques in their arts would work and what techs wouldn't! Just watch da "Dog Bros" documentary and listen 2 some honest quotes about training and martial arts! Other thing is those who bash an art because of how it looks and not knowing its history r just showing their ass! Besides, da main reason capoeira was watered down like it was is due 2 it being temporarily outlawed years after da slaves' revolt in Brazil (some1 correct me if I'm wrong) and a master presented a demonstration of his capoeira 2 officials, who then legalized it!
you're partly right as far as why it was watered down. Mestre Bimba was the one who made that presentation/deomnstarion which was more of a show casing. Basically they criminalized it until they could gain full control over it. Mainly economically, if you control the economics of the product you have full control of the product itself
I don't mean to offend but it's really... weird to believe that any of this would stand a chance in the street. Don't get me wrong, I teach capoeira and the only thing these moves have going for them is maybe the element of surprise. @ exodus: yes, we do these things in the roda but cartwheeling from a rooftop of a van while a guy with a baseball club is trying to hit you?
@MarshalNey13 Bottom line, Capoeira is a dance. I know people who practice it will claim that it's a disguised deadly martial art, but if it does have any application, it's impeded by everything that makes Capoeira, Capoeira and not kickboxing. Please don't watch this and think you can fight 2 guys at once or take on a guy with a baseball bat using martial arts.
finally a video that shows the applications of capoeira outside of roda; after 2 years of playing with my fellow capoerista i still didnt know how to apply the techniques in a street situation
@fsgtad You're describing a choreographed fight sequence, of course it's going to "work." I could beat an opponent using nothing but finger pokes if he came at me in slow motion and fell down when I touched him. People don't fight like this though. Attackers don't punch like little girls or just peacefully walk into kicks. I used to breakdance, unless you are a star athlete, handstand moves take TONS of energy to pull off and are very dangerous at high speeds.
Very nice! I think this is the first video post I've seen that showcases capoeira as an actual form of self defense. Don't get me wrong, I know that Capoeira was originally developed as a way to defend one's self. I just think, personally, that it's more of an art form now than a form of self defense. Still, I love Capoeira. It's one of the most visually stunning and physically challenging arts out there.
There is much truth in what you wrote. But also there are many groups here in Brazil that train it like the martial art it is. Out of here it seems to be more off a mess. Lacks quality control, it seems. But the traditional groups are legit out there too, I suppose.
Cara a capoeira é uma arte marcial disfarçada de dança foi enfatizada assim por muito tempo atrás ser proibido no Brasil tendo que se adaptar até em apelidos para os lutadores não serem presos 2:51 2:51
@fsgtad Ugh, I'll ignore that comment about me being a douche in the interest of ending this. Yes, arguing over the internet is both stupid and fun. I disagree with your assessment of Capoeira. To me, it is cooperative breakdancing but w/e, we can agree to disagree. I assume you're talking about the Finnish metal. I'm glad you like it, it is uniquely awesome.
@MarshalNey13 Energy is just one reason. You do martial arts, let me ask you this, why do you keep your hands up in a fight? Answer: to protect your head. Every time the cap guy does a handstand or cartwheel he's putting his face (and back) in front of his opponent's foot.
@CarNikolaj You're think their technique is more embarrassing than their super tight pants and mullets? I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with that.
i dont think the buff black guy knew capoeria , ( his stance was poor)but then abon he in proved in the end of the film , i've seen the real video and it was good to see those acrobatic movements used for attack :D ,
speaking as a capoeirarista, i think capoeira in its purest essence is a very deadly martial art, deadly enough to where it probably wouldnt be allowed in sports fighting to its full capacity such ass MMA. however i do no see this as a practical example of how caoeira can be used as a practical self defense
I have one search 'Capoeira knockout' a powerful kick like that could paralyze somebody or permanently injure them, honestly though it should not be banned from MMA as there has been similar serious injuries in TaeKwonDo competitions.
so i have been practicing capoiera for a month now. and altough the reason for my love of it is free expression and acrobatics and just plain fun and addicting. i have to ask. if in a real life situation do you think you would be able to defend yourself from lets say a group of muggers or even one
This just won't work. I have practiced capoeira for 2 years, thinking that I could use it in order to defend myself. After I joined an MMA school 3 years ago, I realised I knew NOTHING about fighting, and that capoeira techniques did not help me at ALL. Thanks to capoeira, I had dexterity, flexibility, and strength, but I had learned nothing about proper striking, distance, getting hit and actually hitting others, and nothing about grappling, etc. The reason being the lack of sparring in capoeira, meaning the lack of pressure testing the techniques against fully resisting and aggressive opponents. But this does not mean that capoeira is completely useless. Along with the above-mentioned physical attributes it gave me, it can be efficiently used by someone who has learned at least the basics of legit fighting, either through MMA, Kickboxing or Muay Thai etc. After 3 years of MMA training I am sometimes able to pull some capoeira kicks off during sparring (for example the mea lua de compasso) As for the knife defense, it is all bullshit. Don't EVER believe any of these techniques shown in Krav Maga , Aikido. They are inefficient and DANGEROUS. Someone threatens you with a knife? Give them what they want. If what they want is to kill you, run and scream fire. If you cant run, the only way that you MIGHT manage to take the knife from them is through grappling (BJJ), and believe me, even if you succed, you WILL get cut in the process.
@fsgtad I'm sorry, I don't believe you. Capoeira is a dance. I'm sure there are capoeira practitioners who could beat me up, but if they do it would be based on their conditioning rather than their unsafe moves. Capoeira screams flashy breakdance moves, poor body/head positioning, no margin of error, and unrealistic scenarios. Show me live capoeira that works and I'll shut up.
Yep, this has that 80's self defense video feel to it.
Excellent point. I also think a lot of people don't realize WHY some of the moves look like they do, or that the original practitioners (slaves) often had their hands bound. Obviously if you're a capoeirista you can tell these 2 are being satirical.
Capoeira is easily one of the deadliest, most well rounded martial arts being the person uses the self defense aspect w respect.
... go to brasil or find a skilled capoeirista in america and fight them. then see if its still useless
If there was ever a martial art that was NOT for someone of my body type, it's Capoeira. I love watching it though...
you would be surprised the variety of bodies that ive seen I capoeira but I know it can't be for everyone
Capoeira is not just a martial arts that focuses on one aspect the some movements might not be as effecient compared to other martial arts that focuses on self defence but that doesnt mean its not uselful the thing with any martial art techniques is you will have to work hard and train hard for it to be effective ofcourse there are no perfect defense but its all in the timing and your speed. would need a lot of room to execute these moves.if you got into in fight in a packed club a few jabs should do
Breaking bones , faces, ankles etc. capoeira is beast
You have techniques to give an exemple ?...
@@RexRenart Ponteira, Benção, Chapéu de couro, Meia Lua de Compasso e Martelo are an exemples

@Namriu94 actually the guy you're talking about is a really talented capoeirista. search up mestre amen santo on youtube and you'll see.
uma merda
acho que isto e brincadeira tbm sou capoeira kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
great techniques but i think you will never face so stupid opponents like these ones...
That bit at 0:21, wherein the instructor gets pushed over *onto his hands*, actually made a lot of sense in explaining "capoeira logic."
awesome but honestly I think this isn't realistic for a fight with no rules
this is not realistic in any kind of fight
@fsgtad

Holy 80s, those pants are amazing! Thank you for sharing this.
