The only problem is the "Macho" traditional Jeep Wrangler drivers knock it down as "not a true jeep". Other then that seams like Jeep finally nailed a Jeep with great fuel economy with traditional Jeep styling and capabilities.

Love that you acknowledged the 'head turniness' of the car - we all have families, we are busy, but doesn't hurt to turn a head now and then, great to know ;)

My daughter always wanted the Jeep Renegade when she first saw it before it was released. She finally got one and she loves it. She gets so many positive comments on it from other people that own the bigger Jeeps.

I've owned my Renegade Latitude since May 2015. I love the mileage I get for a 4x4. Much better on gas compared to my 2008 Liberty. I miss the space of my Liberty though. I have a growing family. Currently have a 4 year old son and the space is enough for our travels though we plan to have a second child within the year and I imagine space will be limited with a car seat and stroller in the cargo area. Otherwise I love it. Wish I would have had the trailhawk but at the time of my purchase the trim levels were minimal still. I must say I recommend this vehicle for daily commute to work. My current mileage is 28.9 mpg. It was at 28.7 for 3 months and just increased last week. Excited to drive it in the winter in PA and MI.

I love the overall look and the features that come with the Renegade. Though it is more designed for a single person or a couple. It is capable off-road and good on the road, but it needs a turbo added to the 2.4L to give it better acceleration.

They seem to have improved a lot in a few years. My wife has a 2018 sport 4wd. Transmission is the same, but otherwise fit and finish is much better in the base model than 2015. Some of the trailhawk features have made their way to other models, too. Hers has the extra clearance front bumper with heavy duty tow/recovery hooks that are welded to the frame. Makes recovery much easier and don't have to worry about ripping a bumper off.

I own a 2017 Renegade 4x4 and I have to agree with you, it’s not designed for families. I’ve gotten 2 front-facing car seats in the back (for my neice and nephew) and it will work in a pinch but kids grow and if I had my own I’d go for a larger Compass or Cherokee. I’m also 6’2” which probably doesn’t help matters. The transmission issues have definitely been addressed since this review, it still has some unsure moments but it’s far more refined now than you described. It is perfect for me and my lifestyle, but if a kid was on the way I’d definitely opt for something bigger.

The 2016 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk SUV has a recurring power seat problem that prevents the use of the 8-way and lumbar functions. The problem causes the driver seat to freeze and lock into a position on the seat floor tracks. This could create a serious problem in the event of an emergency. The dealer service department is clueless on fixing the problem.

Maybe all the Jeep logos you mention being everywhere on the car - has to do with reassuring Renegade's buyers that they're still driving a Jeep.

We are a family of four (husband, wife, 10yo and 7yo) and the Renegade is my daily driver. For us it is exactly what I was looking for. We had a Wrangler and a Expedition previously as the “family car” but once we began plans to move to Europe I worried about the Wrangler’s reputation for tipping at high speeds and didn’t feel comfortable taking it on the autobahn. The Expedition was just too large to be practical. The Rene is perfect. Enough space for our essentials and a roof rack and hitch for the weekends when we need extra cargo space. In Europe the Rene is on the large side of vehicles you see everyday, of course home in America it is extremely small compared to huge SUVs and trucks that you see everywhere.

  • @mrlooneycooney8948
    @mrlooneycooney8948 5 років тому

The Renegade is a nice refreshement to the lineup and yeah ok it's targetted to a certain public.
Cityfolks or even just younger/new drivers , which probably get excited just because it's an affordable jeep.
Same goes for myself, living in the city and already having a van to do the loading/dirty work..this renegade is a perfect addition on the driveway :)
Then again, now in 2019 we have a facelift and in the upcoming years the model will grow and mature with it's audience, I'm sure.

Re: space and cargo issue...there are some pretty cool aftermarket 'baskets' that can be fitted to the roof racks of the car. You can test out various types/sizes of containers/bags for summer and/or winter use. Might not be very aerodynamic, but these will provide the extra space needed. Wait 'til you possibly have a second child...and a dog...pack lightly for your trips! Enjoy.

I got the 2016 trailhawk I'm the 2nd. Owner with 17k miles, now almost 19k miles, no trans problems so far! But a little odd shifting to a higher gear by moving shifter forwards vs. Backwards, cons: rear quarter window is way to small, rear cabin light should be on the ceiling not on the side, gas mileage low 20's with SUV (loaded with tools) tho. Pros: remote/push button start feature, 4x4 capable, auto lights/wipers/mirror & power drivers seat.

    I have a 2015 trailhawk.
I do have to say that for an honest review of the space, you really do have to try and fit someone in there. It fits differently than it looks like it fits. While I do agree with the rearward facing car seat, front seat availability is marginal, but it is honestly better than my 2005 subaru legacy was, which was technically bigger inside. The seating is very vertical, and a lot of it is going to come down to how you cope with a close fitting cabin. I've run into people 6'1" who say they don't fit in it. I'm 6'7" and it's honestly the first car I have tried I can get my legs under the steering wheel since I tried out a 95 tahoe way back when. I can also adjust the front seat for me so I can sit behind myself. It's not a cross country roadtrip fit, but it is definitely go out to dinner within a 30-40 minute drive fit. One of my friends is 6'2", he gets in, he fits, but he always puts the seat way back because he has a mental thing where unless stuff is visually far away from him, he thinks he doesn't fit.
Also, the blue color is already discontinued.

    • @FamilyWheels

+raz0000000 Thanks for watching. I agree, the headroom and driving comfort for tall drivers like you and me is fantastic. But that back seat was tight when I, even my 5'8 wife, sat back there. Manageable but we both said more than a drive around town, we'd get pretty uncomfortable. Good tip on the blue getting discontinued. There's another blue on offer with the 2016s. I love the colour options for this car.

great review! Answers some real questions that the average buyer has. Jeep fans need to accept that jeep needs to cater to buyers other than offroaders. No need to compare this to Hummers and Wranglers . It's just a neat little car that will be fun in summer and snow.

Very nice review! But I will not buy a Jeep to put my family in it. There are just too many problems. I bought an FJ Cruiser 2014 and I'm really happy with that. Took it to Moab and loved the way it handled. Smooth ride, no road noise, no wind noise but you can hear the engine accelerate. Good luck with your Jeep.

I've been wanting to buy one of theme but I too have heard of the issue with the transmission. I'm currently living in Miami and never had a problem driving manual transmission in the city but going with a turbo block engine hurts my pocket a bit. I also have to kids (7 & 8 year olds) that love this car too, but after watching your video, I think that they will have a problem sitting in the back seat and expecting leg room. Overall, I love the looks of this jeep.

Your welcome. My wife wants to get a new SUV thats good on gas since she drives a good distance daily. We both love automobiles that are different looking than your normal mainstream looking Japanese automobiles. Looks like our best option is to get a Honda CRV. We are not fans of the Jeep Compass or Patriot since they just look too boring and I always thought those two models hurt the Jeep brand. Jeep should just make the Renegade bigger to replace the Compass and Patriot.
